the brake pedal not applied,
pressing and holding the button for
more than five seconds will place
the vehicle in Service Only Mode.
The instruments and audio systems
will operate as they do in ON/RUN,
but the vehicle will not be able to be
driven. The engine will not start in
Service Only Mode. Press the
button again to turn the vehicle off.
Starting the Engine

N (Neutral). The engine will not start
in any other position. To restart the
engine when the vehicle is already
moving, use N (Neutral) only.
{Caution

vehicle is moving. If you do, you
could damage the transmission.

vehicle is stopped.
{Caution

Starting Procedure
1. With the Keyless Access system, the transmitter must be
in the vehicle. Put your foot on
the brake pedal and push the
START button. When the engine
begins cranking, let go of the
button.
The idle speed will go down as
the engine gets warm. Do not

engine and transmission gently
to allow the oil to warm up and
lubricate all moving parts. If the transmitter is not in the
vehicle or something is
interfering with the transmitter,
the Driver Information Center
(DIC) will display a message.
See
Key and Lock Messages on
page 5-29.
If the battery in the Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter
needs replacing, the DIC will
display a message. The vehicle
can still be driven. See “Starting
the Vehicle with a Low
Transmitter Battery” inRemote
Keyless Entry (RKE) System
Operation on page 2-3.
The vehicle has a
Computer-Controlled Cranking
System. This feature assists in
starting the engine and protects
components. If the ENGINE
START/STOP button is pressed,
and then released when the
engine begins cranking, the
engine will continue cranking for
a few seconds or until the
vehicle starts. If the engine does
not start and the button is
