The s ho rt-term memo ry co llects driving i nfo r­
mat io n from the time the ignit ion is switched
on until it is switched off. If yo u continue dr iv­
ing within two hours after switching the igni­
tion off, the new val ues a re i ncluded when cal­
culating the cu rrent trip informa tion .
Unlike the short-term memory, the long-term
memory is not erased automatica lly. You can
select the time period for evaluat ing trip in­
formation yo urse lf.
For some veh icle functions, you can access the
tr ip i nformat io n from the tempora ry memory
i n the line

The current fue l cons umption can be d is ­
played using a ba r

average cons umption (mpg) stored in the

Other equipment that is currently affecting
fuel consumption is listed in the efficiency
program. The display shows up to three other
items of equipment @. The equipment using
the most fuel is listed first. If more than three items using fue l are switched on, the equ ip ­
ment that is currently using the most f uel is
d isplayed .
A scale @ also shows the current total con­
sumpt ion of all other equ ipment .
Fuel economy messages

F ue l economy messages are disp layed when
fuel consumption is increased by certain con ­
ditions. If you follow these fuel economy mes­
sages, you can reduce your vehicle's consump­
tion of fuel. The messages appear automati­
cally and are only disp layed in the eff ic iency
p rog ram. The fuel economy messages turn off
au tom atically after a certa in period of time.

To save fuel, the engine automatically turns
fo ur cy linders on or off, depend ing on the

felt by the passengers .

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with
remote control. A mechanical key is integrat­
ed in the remote control key

If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recom­
mended that each person always uses "their
own" master key . When the ignition is switch­
ed off or when the vehicle is locked, personal
convenience settings for the follow ing sys­
tems are stored and assigned to the remote master key .

The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or when you switch the ignition on.
A WARNING
-- Do not leave your vehicle unattended . Al-
ways take your ignit ion key with you and
lock your vehicle . Entry by unauthorized
persons could endanger yo u or resu lt in
theft or damage the vehicle.
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportunity to start the engine and/or activate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows, etc .
Unsupervised operation of any vehicle
system by children can result in serious
injury.

- The operation of the remote control key
can be temporar ily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transm itters in the vic inity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen­
cy range (e.g. a cell phone, radio equip­
ment).

Switching the headlights on and off

The headlights only wo rk when the ignition is
sw itched on. Wh ile start ing the eng ine or
when switching off the ig nition, the head­
lights will go off and on ly the s ide marker
lights w ill be on .

In vehicles with al l-wea ther lights, the front
li gh ts a re a dju sted au tom atically so that you
are less like ly to see glare from your own
head lig hts, for example when driving on a wet
road.
Automatic headlight range cont rol*
T he hea dlights do not blind oncoming traffic
i f the veh icle load changes . The headlight
range also ad justs automatica lly when brak­
ing and acce lerating .
Light functions
The following light funct ions are avai lab le de­
pend ing on veh icle equipment and o nly func­
tion when the lig ht sw itch is in the AU TO posi­
tio n. You can deactivate these functions in the
MMI under
Audi adaptive light~ page 45.
Vehicles wi th St atic corn ering light* : the cor ­
nering light sw itches on a utomat ica lly when
the steering wheel is turned at a certain angle
at spee ds up to approx imately 44 mph
(70 km/h) and when the turn signa l is activat­
ed at speeds up to approx imately 25 mph
(40 km/h) . The a rea to the side of the vehicle
is illum inated better when turn ing.
Vehicles with
Dynamic curve light* : the curve
light only functions at speeds between ap­
proximate ly 6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph
(110 km/h) and adapts itse lf to the c urves in
the road .

General recommen­
dations
Why is your seat adjustment so important?
The safety belts and the airbag system can
only provide maximum protection if the front
seats are correctly adjusted.
There are various ways of adjusting the front
seats to provide safe and comfortable support
for the driver and the front passenger. Adjust
your seat properly so that :
- you can easily and quick ly reach all the
switches and controls in the instrument
panel
- your body is properly supported thus reduc­ ing physical stress and fatigue
- the safety belts and airbag system can offe r
maximum protection

In the following sections, you will see exactly
how you can best adjust your seats .
There are special regulations and instructions
for installing a child seat on the front pas­
senger's seat. Always fo llow the information
regarding chi ld safety provided in
¢ page 175, Child Safety.
A WARNING
Incorrect seating position of the driver and
all other passengers can result in serious
personal injury.
- Always keep your feet on the f loor when
the vehicle is in motion -never put your
feet on top of the instrument panel, out of the window or on top of the seat cush­
ion. This applies especially to the passen­
gers . If your seating position is incorrect,
you increase the r isk of injury in the case
of sudden braking or an acc ident. If the
airbag inflates and the seating position
is incorrect, this could result in persona l
injury or even death.
- It is important for both the driver and
front passenger to keep a distance of a t

least 10 inches (25 cm) between them­
selves and the steering wheel and/or in­
strument panel. If you're s itting any
closer than th is, the airbag system can­
not protect you properly. In addition, the
front seats and head restraints must be adjusted to your body height so that they
can give you maximum protect ion.
- Always try to keep as much distance as
possible between yourself and the s teer­
ing wheel o r instrument pane l.
- Do not adjust the driver's or front pas­
senger's seat whi le the vehicle is moving.
Your sea t may move unexpected ly, caus­
ing sudden loss of vehicle cont rol and
personal injury . If you adjust yo ur seat
while the veh icle is moving, yo u are out
of posit ion.
Driver's seat
The correct seat position is important for safe
and relaxed driving.
We recommend that you adjus t the dr iver's
seat in the fo llowing manner:
.,. Adjust the seat in fore and aft direction so
that you can easily push the peda ls to the
floor wh ile keeping your knees s lightly bent

.,. Adjust the backrest so that when you sit
w ith your back against the backrest, you can
still grasp the top of the steering wheel.
.,. Adjust the head restraint so the upper edge
is as even as possible with the top of your
head . If that is not poss ible , try to adjust
the head res traint so that it is as close to
this pos ition as possib le

A WARNING
Never place any objects in the dr iver's foot­
well. An object could get into the pedal
area and interfere with pedal funct ion. In
case of sudden braking or an acc ident, you
would not be able to brake or accelerate.

l(lii) REAR I Switching rear window heater
on/off
The rear window heater on ly operates when
the engine is running.
It switches off auto­
matica lly after a few minutes, depending on
the outside temperature.
To prevent the rear window heater from
switching off automatically, press and hold
the
lil button for more than 2 seconds. This
remains stored unti l the ignition is switched
off.
[ii Adjusting seat heating
Pressing the button switches the seat heating
on at the highest setting ( leve l 3). The LEDs
indicate the temperature level. To reduce the
temperature, press the button again. To
switch the seat heating off, press the button
repeatedly unt il the LED turns off .
After 10 minutes, the seat heating automati­
cally switches from leve l 3 to level 2.
The seat heating for both outer rear seats* is
adjusted using the buttons in the center con­
sole.

Air vents
You can open or close the center and outer
vents in the cockpit and the vents in the rear
center console using the ridged thumbwheels.
The levers adjust the direction of the airflow
from the vents.
The air temperature in the rear can be adjust­
ed so that it is warmer or co lder by turning
the knob to the red or blue area.
A WARNING
- Do not use the recirc ulation for extended
periods of time. The windows could fog
up since no fresh a ir can enter the vehi­
cle. If the windows fog up, press the air
recirc ulat ion button aga in immed iately
to switch off the air recirculation func­
tion or select defrost.
- I ndividuals w ith reduced sensitivity to
pa in or temperature could develop burns
when using the seat heating function. To
red uce the risk of injury, these individu­
als sho uld not use seat heating.

To avoid damage to the heating elements
in the seats, do not kneel on the seats or
place heavy loads on a small area of the
seat.

IAUTO I Switching automatic mode on
Automatic mode mainta ins a constant tem­
perature inside the vehicle. Air temperature,
airflow and air distribution are controlled au­
tomatically.
Adjusting the temperature
Temperatu res between 60 °F (+16 °C) and
84 °F ( +28 °C) can be set. O uts ide of this
range,
lo or hi wi ll appear in the climate con ­
trol system disp lay. At both of these settings,
the climate control system runs continuously
at maximum cooling or heating power. There
is no temperature regu lation.
~ Adjusting the airflow
You can adjust the airf low manually to suit
your needs . To have the airf low regulated au­
tomatically, press the
I AUTO j button.
li!J Adjusting the air distribution
You can manually se lect the vents where the
air will flow. To have the air distribution regu­
lated automatically, press the
IAUTOI button .
~I~* Adjusting seat heating/
ventilation*
Pressing the button switches the seat heat­
ing/ventilation on at the highest setting ( level
3). The LEDs indicate the heating/ventilation
level. To reduce the heating/venti lation, press
the button again. To switch the seat heating/
ventilation off, press the button repeatedly
until the LED turns off.
After 10 minutes, the seat heating automati­
cally switches from level 3 to level 2.
l The windshield and side windows are defrost­

mainly from the vents below the windshield.

liiii REAR ! Switching rear window heater
on/off
The rear window heater only operates when
the engine is running. It switches off auto­ matically after 10 to 20 minutes, depending
o n the outside temperature.
To prevent the rear window heater from
switching off automatically, press and ho ld
the ~ button for more than 2 seconds. This
remains stored until the ignition is switched
off .
I SYNC I Synchronization*
When synchronization is switched on, the
same settings are applied to both the driver
and front passenger, except for the seat heat­
ing/ventilation*. The rear zone is also
synchronized. Synchronization switches off
when the settings for the front passenger s ide
o r r ear are adjusted.
You can also switch synchronization on by pressing and holding a dial. For example, if
you press and hold the dial on the front pas­
senger side, the settings for that side are
transferred to the driver side. The same ap­
plies to the rear.
Air vents
You can open or close the center and outer
vents in the cockpit and the vents in the rear
cente r console and door pillars using the
ridged thumbwheels. The levers adjust the di­
rection of the airflow from the vents.
