sudden braking o r accident, front pas ­
sengers must never ride in a moving ve­
hicle with the backrest reclined. Safety be lts and the airbag system only offer
maximum protection when the backrest is upr ight and the safety belts are prop·
erly positioned on the body. The more
the backrest is reclined, the greater the
ris k of persona l injury from an incor re ct
seating position and improperly pos i­
tioned safety belts.

- T he massage function switches off auto­
matically after approximately 10 mi­
nu tes.
- T he side bolsters* deflate when t he d riv­
er's door is opened. This allows you to
enter and exit comfortably. The side bol­
sters inflate again once you begin d riv­

Press the buttons to turn the functions on or
off. Use the dials to adjust the temperature,
the blower speed and the air distribution. The
LED in a button will light up when the func­
tion is switched on. The settings are shown in
the climate control display and are also shown in the MMI display for a few seconds . The driv­
er and front passenger sett ings can be adjust­
ing separately.

IOFFj Switching the climate control
system on/off
The I O FFI button switches the climate control
system on or off .
It also switches on when you
turn the dia l or press any button . Airflow from outside is blocked when the
climate control
system is switched off .
You can activate the residual hea t function
whe n the ignition is off by pressing and hold­
ing the ~ button. The residua l heat from the
coolant is used to heat the vehicle interior .
The residual heat function switches off auto­
matically after about 30 minutes.
!ACI Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is not cooled and humidity is not re­
moved when cooling mode is switched off.
This can cause fog on the windows. Cooling
mode switches off automatically when the
outside temperature is be low zero .
1- 1 Switching recirculation mode on/off
In recircu lation mode, the air inside the vehi ­
cle is circu lated and filtered. This prevents the
unfiltered air outside the vehicle from enter­
ing the vehicle interior . We recommend
switching recirculation mode on when driving
through a tunnel or when sitting in traffic ¢ .&, .

the vehicle from the outside.

Switching the ignition automatically
To prevent the battery from draining, the igni­
tion will switch off
automatically when all of
the following conditions have been met:
- The vehicle has already been driven .
- The engine has been turned off by the Start-
Stop-System*.
- The driver's door is opened .
- The driver's seat belt is removed.
- The bra ke peda l is not pressed down.
- The vehicle is stationary.
In this case, the activated low beam will be re­
placed by the side marker lights. The side
marker lights will switch off after approx i­
mately 30 minutes or when you lock the vehi­
cle .
If the Start-Stop System has
not turned off
the engine or if you have switched the Start­
Stop system off manually, the ignition wil l
not
be automatically switched off and the engine
will continue to run ~,& .

Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces -danger of asphyxiation.

If you shift into the D, N or S positions af­
ter shifting into reverse, the vehicle must

I START ENGINE STOP! button.
Start-Stop system: System fault! Function
unavailable
There is a malfunction in the Start-Stop-Sys­
tem . Drive the vehicle to an authorized repair
facility for servicing as soon as possible to cor­
rect the malfunction.

Speed warning system
Introduction
The sp eed warning system helps you to stay
und er a specified maximum speed .
The speed warning system warns you if you
are exceeding the maximum speed that you
have set . You will hear a warning tone when
your speed exceeds the stored value by ap­ prox imately 3 mph (3 km/h) . An indicator
light . (USA models)/ . (Canada mode ls) in
the instrumen t cluster display also t urns on at
the same time . The indicator light

turns off when the speed decreases below the
stored maximum speed.
Sett ing a th res hold is re commended if yo u
wou ld like to be reminded when you reach a
certain maximum speed. Situations where you
may want to do so include driving in a country
with a general speed limit or if there is a
specif ied max imum speed for winter tires.

Even tho ugh your vehicle is equipped with
a speed warning system, you should st ill
watch the speedometer to make sure you are not driving faster than the speed lim it.
Setting the threshold
You can set, change and delete the threshold
in the
MMI.

You can set any threshold between 20 mph

Audi adaptive cruise control

What can adaptive cruise control do?
The adaptive cruise control system uses video,
radar and ultrasou nd. Moving vehicles ahead
can be recognized up to about 650 feet (200 m) away.
On open roads w ith no traffic, adaptive cruise
control works like a regular cruise control sys­
tem. The stored speed is maintained. When
approaching a moving vehicle detected up
ahead, the adaptive cruise control system au­
tomatically s lows down to match that vehi­
cle's speed and then maintains the distance
that the driver previous ly stored. As soon as
the system does not detect a vehicle up
ahead, adaptive cruise control accelerates
back up to the stored speed.
In stop-and-go traffic, adapt ive cru ise control
can brake until the vehicle stops and acceler­
ate again under certain conditions and if this
is possible within the system's limits and ca­
pabilities¢
page 88. Adaptive cru ise control
will not make an emergency stop .
Which functions can be controlled?
When you switch adaptive cruise contro l on,
you can set the current speed as the "control speed" ¢
page 86, Switching on and off.
When driving, you can stop cruise control

Both arrow s on the scale© indicate the dis­
tance to the vehicle ahead. No arrow appears
when the vehicle is on an open road and there
is no object ahead . If an object is detected
ahead , the arrow moves on the scale . The
green zone on the scale shows the stored
distance. For information on changing the

c::> page 88 . If the
distance selected is too close or may soon be­
come too close, the arrows move into the red
zone on the sca le .
A WARNING
Improper use of the adaptive cruise con­
trol can cause collisions, other accidents
and serious personal injur ies .
- Pressing the

speeds below
20 mph (30 km/h), will au­
tomatically accelerate the vehicle to
20
mph (30 km/h), which is the minimum
speed that can be set.

-If you switch the ignit ion or the adaptive
