Reverse: with the vehicle stationary,
wait 3 seconds after depressing
clutch pedal and then press the
release button on the selector lever
and engage the gear.
If the gear does not engage, set the
lever to neutral, release the clutch
pedal and depress again; then repeat
gear selection.

Stop-start system
If the vehicle is at a low speed or at astandstill and certain conditions are
fulfilled, activate an Autostop as
follows:
■ Depress the clutch pedal
■ set the lever in neutral
■ release the clutch pedal
An Autostop is indicated by the
needle at the AUTOSTOP position in
the tachometer.
To restart the engine, depress the
clutch pedal again.

ParkingCaution
Do not park the vehicle on an
easily ignitable surface. The high
temperature of the exhaust
system could ignite the surface.
■ Always apply the parking brake. Activate the manual parking brake
without pressing the release button.
Apply as firmly as possible on a
downhill slope or uphill slope.
Depress foot brake at the same
time to reduce operating force.
For vehicles with electric parking
brake, pull switch m.
■ If the vehicle is on a level surface or
uphill slope, engage first gear or set the selector lever to P before
switching off the ignition. On an
uphill slope, turn the front wheels
away from the kerb.
If the vehicle is on a downhill slope, engage reverse gear or set theselector lever to P before switching
off the ignition. Turn the front
wheels towards the kerb.
■ After running at high engine speeds
or with high engine loads, operate
the engine briefly at a low load or
run in neutral for approx.
30 seconds before switching off, in
order to protect the turbocharger.
■ Switch off the engine. Turn the ignition key to position 0 and
remove. Turn steering wheel until it locks.
Automatic transmission: key can only be removed with selector lever
in P.
■ Close windows and soft top.
■ Lock the vehicle. Activate the anti-theft alarm system3 25.
■ The engine cooling fans may run after engine is off 3 178.

Air conditioning system
In addition to the heating and
ventilation system, the air
conditioning system has controls for:
n=cooling4=air recirculation
Heated seats ß 3 52, Heated

Cooling n
Press button
n to switch on cooling.
Activation is indicated by the LED in
the button. Cooling is only functional
when the engine is running and
climate control fan is switched on.
Press button n again to switch off
cooling.
The air conditioning system cools and
dehumidifies (dries) as soon as the
outside temperature is slightly above
the freezing point. Therefore
condensation may form and drip from under the vehicle.

Climate control123
If no cooling or drying is required,
switch off the cooling system for fuel
saving reasons. Activated cooling
might inhibit autostops.
Air recirculation system 4
Press button
4 to activate air
recirculation mode. Activation is
indicated by the LED in the button.
Press button 4 again to deactivate
recirculation mode.
9 Warning
The exchange of fresh air is
reduced in air recirculation mode.
In operation without cooling the air humidity increases, so the
windows may mist up from inside.
The quality of the passenger
compartment air deteriorates,
which may cause the vehicle
occupants to feel drowsy.
In warm and very humid ambient air conditions, the windscreen might mist up from outside, when cold air is
directed to it. If windscreen mists up
from outside, activate windscreen
wiper and deactivate s.
Maximum cooling
Briefly open the windows so that hot
air can disperse quickly.
■ Switch on cooling n.
■ Air recirculation system 4 on.
■ Press air distribution switch M.
■ Set temperature control to coldest level.
■ Set fan speed to highest level.
■ Open all vents.

Notice
If the V button is pressed while the
engine is running, an Autostop will
be inhibited until the V button is
pressed again.
If the V button is pressed while the
engine is in an Autostop, the engine will restart automatically.

Electronic climate control
system
The dual zone climate control allows
different climatisation temperatures
for driver and front passenger side.
In Automatic mode temperature, fan
speed and air distribution are
regulated automatically.
