WARNING
Please keep the following points in mind
when using the tire sealing system:
•The sealing compound bottle (no. 8 in
the illustration) contains 1) rubber latex,
natural and 2) ethanediol. These sub-
stances are harmful if swallowed.
•The contents of this bottle may cause
allergic skin reactions or otherwise be
potentially harmful to the respiratory
tract, the skin, the central nervous sys-
tem, and the eyes.
Precautions:
•Keep out of reach of children.
•Do not ingest the contents.
•Avoid prolonged or repeated contact
with the skin.
•Wash thoroughly after handling.
First aid:
•Skin: Wash affected areas of skin with
soap and water. Get medical attention
if symptoms occur.
•Eyes: Flush with plenty of water for least
15 minutes, occasionally lifting the
upper and lower eyelids. Get medical
attention if symptoms occur.
•Inhalation: Move the exposed person to
fresh air. If irritation persists, get medi-
cal attention.
•Ingestion: Do NOT induce vomiting
unless directed to do so by medical per-
sonnel. Get medical attention.
•Disposal: Dispose of this material and
its container to a hazardous or special
waste collection point.
NOTE
Do not break the seal on the bottle. This
occurs automatically when the bottle is
screwed into the holder.

Temporary spare

195 Temporary spare
The spare tire in your vehicle1 is called a "Tem-
porary Spare".
Recommended tire pressure (see the placard
on the B-pillar or on the fuel filler door) should
be maintained irrespective of which position on
the car the temporary spare tire is used.
In the event of damage to this tire, a new one
can be purchased from your Volvo retailer.
WARNING
Current legislation prohibits the use of the
"Temporary Spare" tire other than as a tem-
porary replacement for a punctured tire. It
must be replaced as soon as possible by a
standard tire. Road holding and handling
may be affected with the "Temporary
Spare" in use. Do not exceed a speed of
50 mph (80 km/h) with the "Temporary
Spare" in use.
CAUTION
The car must not be driven with wheels of
different dimensions or with a spare tire
other than the one that came with the car.
The use of different size wheels can seri-
ously damage your car's transmission.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

201 Introduction
The tire pressure monitoring system1 uses sen-
sors mounted in the tire valves to check infla-
tion pressure levels. When the vehicle is mov-
ing at a speed of approximately 20 mph
(30 km/h) or faster, these sensors transmit
inflation pressure data to a receiver located in
the vehicle.

FCC rules. Operation is subject to the fol-
lowing conditions: (1) This device may not
cause harmful interference, and (2) this
device must accept any interference
received, including interference that may
cause undesired operation.
When low inflation pressure is detected, TPMS
will light up the tire pressure warning light
(also referred to as a telltale) in the instrument
panel and will display one of the following mes-
sages in the text window:
LOW TIRE PRESS.
CHECK TIRES or TIRE PRESSURE LOW.
NOTE
If a fault occurs in TPMS, the tire pressure
warning light will flash for approximately
1 minute and
TIRE PRESS SYST
SERVICE REQUIRED will be displayed.
Each tire, including the spare (if provided),
should be checked monthly when cold and
inflated to the inflation pressure recommended
by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle
placard or tire inflation pressure label. (If your
vehicle has tires of a different size than the size
indicated on the vehicle placard or tire inflation
pressure label, you should determine the
proper tire inflation pressure for those tires.)
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has
been equipped with a tire pressure monitoring
system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pres-
sure telltale when one or more of your tires is
significantly under-inflated. Accordingly, when
the low tire pressure telltale illuminates, you
should stop and check your tires as soon as
possible, and inflate them to the proper pres-
sure. Driving on a significantly under-inflated
tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to
tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel
efficiency and tire tread life, and may affect the
vehicle's handling and stopping ability.Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute
for proper tire maintenance, and it is the driv-
er's responsibility to maintain correct tire pres-
sure, even if under-inflation has not reached
the level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low
tire pressure telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a
TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate when
the system is not operating properly. The
TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with
the low tire pressure telltale . When the system
detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for
approximately one minute and then remain
continuously illuminated. This sequence will
continue upon subsequent vehicle start-ups as
long as the malfunction exists. When the mal-
function indicator is illuminated, the system
may not be able to detect or signal low tire
pressure as intended. TPMS malfunctions may
occur for a variety of reasons, including the
installation of replacement or alternate tires or
wheels on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS
from functioning properly. Always check the
TPMS malfunction telltale after replacing one
or more tires or wheels on your vehicle to
ensure that the replacement or alternate tires
and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to
function properly.

tant, especially in the winter. Some automatic
washers do not have facilities for washing the
underbody.
CAUTION
•Remove the antenna on the right rear
fender. This antenna should never be
bent in any way. Doing so could result
in damage or malfunction. When the
antenna is put back in position, turn it
carefully to help avoid damaging the
threads on the antenna's mount.
•Before driving into an automatic car
wash, turn off the optional rain sensor to
avoid damaging the windshield wipers.
•Make sure that side view mirrors, auxil-
iary lamps, etc, are secure.
•Chromed wheels: Clean chrome-
plated wheels using the same deter-
gents used for the body of the vehicle.
Aggressive wheel-cleaning agents can
permanently stain chrome-plated
wheels.
WARNING
•When the car is driven immediately after
being washed, apply the brakes several
times in order to remove any moisture
from the brake linings.
•Engine cleaning agents should not be
used when the engine is warm. This
constitutes a fire risk.
Exterior lightingCondensation may form temporarily on the
inside of the lenses of exterior lights such as
headlights, fog lights, or taillights. This is nor-
mal and the lights are designed to withstand
moisture. Normally, condensation will dissi-
pate after the lights have been on for a short
time.
Polishing and Waxing
•Normally, polishing is not required during
the first year after delivery, however, wax-
ing may be beneficial.
•Before applying polish or wax the vehicle
must be washed and dried. Tar spots can
be removed with kerosene or tar remover.
Difficult spots may require a fine rubbing
compound.
•After polishing use liquid or paste wax.
•Several commercially available products
contain both polish and wax.
•Waxing alone does not substitute for pol-
ishing a dull surface.
•A wide range of polymer-based waxes can
be purchased today. These waxes are easy
to use and produce a long-lasting, high-
gloss finish that protects the bodywork
against oxidation, road dirt and fading.
•Do not polish or wax your vehicle in direct
sunlight (the surface of the vehicle should
not be warmer than 113 °F (45 °C).
CAUTION
Volvo does not recommend the use of long-
life or durable paint protection coatings,
some of which may claim to prevent pitting,
fading, oxidation, etc. These coatings have
not been tested by Volvo for compatibility
with your vehicle's clear coat. Some of them
may cause the clear coat to soften, crack,
or cloud. Damage caused by application of
paint protection coatings may not be cov-
ered under your vehicle's paint warranty.

Cleaning a leather-covered steering
wheel
•Remove soil, dust, etc., with a damp
sponge and a neutral soap solution.
•Leather should be allowed to breath. Never
cover the steering wheel with a plastic pro-
tector.
•Volvo recommends cleaning, protecting
and conditioning the steering wheel with
Volvo's Leather Care Kit 951 0251 and
Leather Softener 943 7429.
If there are stains on the steering wheel:
Type 1 (ink, wine, coffee, milk, sweat or blood)
–Use a soft cloth or sponge. Wipe the wheel
with a solution with 5% ammonia. For
blood stains, mix approx. 1 cup (2 dl) of
water and one ounce (25g) of salt and wipe
the stain.
Type 2 (fat, oil, sauces, or chocolate)
1. Same procedure as for type I stains.
2. Finish by rubbing the wheel with absorbent
paper or a towel.
Type 3 (dry soil or dust)
1. Remove the soil/dust with a soft brush.
2. Same procedure as for type I stains.
CAUTION
Sharp objects, such as rings, could damage
the leather on the steering wheel.
Cleaning the seat belts
Clean only with lukewarm water and a mild
soap solution.
Cleaning floor mats
The floor mats should be vacuumed or brushed
clean regularly, especially during winter when
they should be taken out for drying. Spots on
textile mats can be removed with a mild deter-
gent. For best protection in winter, Volvo rec-
ommends the use of Volvo rubber floor mats.

Searching for stationsThere are two ways to manually tune a radio
station:
–
Turn the TUNING dial (3) to the desired fre-
quency.
–Press the left or right arrow key on the
menu navigation control and hold it down.
The radio scans slowly in the selected
direction and will increase the scanning
speed after a few seconds. Release the
button when the desired frequency
appears in the display.
The frequency can be fine-tuned by short
presses on the left/right arrow keys.
Storing preset stations
Manually storing a station1. Tune to the desired station.
2. Press and hold the preset button under
which the station is to be stored. The audio
system sound will be interrupted for a few
seconds and
Station stored will appear in
the display.
NOTE
A total of 30 stations can be stored; 10 sta-
tions each in AM, FM1 and FM2.
Automatically storing a stationPressing AUTO (7) automatically searches for
and stores up to ten strong AM or FM stations
in a separate memory. If more than ten stations
are found, the ten strongest ones are stored.
This function is especially useful in areas in
which you are not familiar with radio stations or
their frequencies.
To use the AUTO function:
1.
Select a waveband using the AM/FM but-
ton (1).
2.
Start the search by pressing AUTO until
Autostoring appears in the display.
When the search is completed,
Autostoringwill no longer be displayed. If there are no sta-

NOTE
The TUNING dial (6) (turn clockwise to go to
the next track/file, or counterclockwise to
go to the previous track/file) or the steering
wheel keypad can also be used for this pur-
pose.
Fast forward/back–Press and hold down the left or right arrows
keys in the menu navigation control (or the
corresponding keys on the steering wheel
keypad) to search within a track/file or the
whole disc. The search continues for as
long as the buttons are held down.
Random playThis function plays the tracks/files on a CD in
random order (shuffle).
Activating/deactivating the random
function
If a normal CD is being played:
1.
Press MENU followed by ENTER.
2.
Select Random and press ENTER.
If a CD with audio files is being played:1.
Press MENU followed by ENTER.

Select
Random and press ENTER.
3.
Select
Disc or Folder and press ENTER.
ScanThis function plays the first 10 seconds of each
track/file on the CD.

Press SCAN.

Press EXIT or SCAN to stop the scan func-
tion and listen to an entire track/file.
CD ejectPress the eject button (3) to eject the disc.
NOTE
•The Eject all function can only be used
while the vehicle is at a standstill and will
be cancelled if the vehicle begins to
move.
•For reasons of traffic safety, the ejected
CD must be removed within 12 seconds
or it will be automatically drawn back
into the slot and the CD player will enter
pause mode. Press the CD button to
restart the disc.
Compact disc care
Keep the following in mind when playing/han-
dling compact discs
•Do not put tape or labels on the disc itself.
They could become stuck in the player.
•CDR discs can cause listening problems
due to the quality of the disc or recording
equipment used.
•DualDisc: The audio side of a DualDisc
(combined CD/DVD) does not meet CD
specifications and may not play in your
audio system.
•Keep the discs clean. Wipe them with a
soft, clean, lint-free cloth, working from the
center outward. If necessary, dampen the
cloth with a neutral soap solution. Dry thor-
oughly before using.
•Never use cleaning spray or antistatic liq-
uid. Use only cleaners specifically made for
CDs.
•Use discs of the correct size only
(3.5" discs should never be used).
•Volvo does not recommend the use of
plastic outer rings on the disc.
•Condensation may occur on discs/optical
components of the CD player in cold winter
weather. The disc can be dried with a
clean, lint-free cloth. Optical components
in the CD player may, however, take up to
one hour to dry off.

Tire inflation pressures
This label indicates the correct inflation pres-
sures for the tires that were on the vehicle when
it left the factory.
Canadian models have the upper decal.
U.S. models have the lower decal.
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)1
The VIN plate is located on the top left surface
of the dashboard. The VIN is also stamped on
the right hand door pillar.
Vehicle Emission Control Information
Your Volvo is designed to meet all applicable
emission standards, as evidenced by the cer-
tification label on the underside of the hood.
