Before driving

Alarm
: If equipped
The system sounds the alarm and flashes lights when forced entry is
detected.
Triggering of the alarm
The alarm is triggered in the following situations when the alarm
is set.
A locked door or back door is unlocked or opened in any way
other than using the entry function or wireless remote control.
The hood is opened.
If equipped, the intrusion sensor detects something moving
inside the vehicle. (An intruder gets in the vehicle.)
If equipped, the quarter windows or back door window are
tapped or broken.
Setting the alarm system
Close the doors and hood,
and lock all doors using the
entry function or wireless
remote control. The system
will be set automatically after
30 seconds.
The indicator light changes
from being on to flashing when
the system is set.

Intrusion sensor (if equipped)
The intrusion sensor detects intruders or movement in the vehicle.
When an intruder or movement is detected, the alarm will be trig-
gered.
The intrusion sensor can be canceled using the cancel switch.
This system is designed to deter and prevent vehicle theft but does
not guarantee absolute security against all intrusions.
Canceling the intrusion sensor
Turn the “POWER” switch off
and press the intrusion sensor
cancel switch.
Pressing the switch again will re-
enable the intrusion sensor.
The intrusion sensor will revert to
on each time the “POWER”
switch is turned to ON mode.
Deactivating or stopping the alarm
Do one of the following to deactivate or stop the alarm:
Unlock the doors using the entry function or wireless remote
control.
Start the hybrid system. (The alarm will be deactivated or
stopped after a few seconds.)

Alarm-operated door lock
When the alarm is operating, the doors are locked automatically to pre-
vent intruders.
Do not leave the key inside the vehicle when the alarm is operating, and
make sure the key is not inside the vehicle when recharging or replacing
the 12-volt battery.
Canceling and automatic re-enabling of the intrusion sensor
The alarm will still be set even when the intrusion sensor is canceled.
After the intrusion sensor is canceled, pressing the “POWER” switch or
unlocking the doors using the entry function or wireless remote control
will re-enable the intrusion sensor.
When the alarm system is set again, the intrusion sensor will be set.
Intrusion sensor considerations
The sensor may trigger the alarm in the following situations:
Persons or pets are in the vehicle.
A window is open.
In this case, the sensor may detect the
following:
• Wind or the movement of objects
such as leaves and insects inside
the vehicle
• Ultrasonic waves emitted from
devices such as the intrusion sen-
sors of other vehicles
• The movement of people outside
the vehicle

Using the steering wheel climate remote control switches
Adjusting the temperature setting
Press “” on to increase the temperature and “” to decrease
the temperature.
Changing the outside air or recirculated air modes

The mode switches between outside air mode and recirculated air mode
each time the switch is pressed.
Some air conditioning features can be controlled using the switches
on the steering wheel.

Jam protection function
If an object is detected between a panoramic roof shade and the frame
while closing, travel is stopped and the panoramic roof shades open
slightly.
When the jam protection function has operated, even if the “CLOSE” side
of the switch is pressed again, the shade will not move in the close direc-
tion until the reverse operation has stopped completely.
Depending on the driving conditions and the surroundings, the pan-
oramic roof shades may collide with something and operate in reverse.
Door lock linked automatic close function
When the “POWER” switch is off, the panoramic roof shades will close auto-
matically if the vehicle is locked from the outside or from the inside using the
wireless remote control.
If the panoramic roof shades do not close normally
Perform the following operations.
Stop the vehicle in a safe place.
With the panoramic roof shades stopped, push and hold the
“CLOSE” side of the switch for 10 seconds or more (until the pan-
oramic roof shades have closed completely).
If the panoramic roof shades continue to close but then re-open slightly even
after performing the above procedure correctly, have the vehicle inspected
by any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
Customization
The door lock linked automatic close function can be disabled.

Before recharging
When recharging, the 12-volt battery produces hydrogen gas which is flam-
mable and explosive. Therefore, observe the following precautions before
recharging:
If recharging with the 12-volt battery installed on the vehicle, be sure to
disconnect the ground cable.
Make sure the power switch on the charger is off when connecting and
disconnecting the charger cables to the 12-volt battery.
After recharging/reconnecting the 12-volt battery
Unlocking the doors using the smart entry & start system may not be
possible immediately after reconnecting the 12-volt battery. If this hap-
pens, use the wireless remote control or the mechanical key to lock/
unlock the doors.
Start the hybrid system with the “POWER” switch in ACCESSORY mode.
The hybrid system may not start with the “POWER” switch turned off.
However, the hybrid system will operate normally from the second
attempt.
The “POWER” switch mode is recorded by the vehicle. If the 12-volt bat-
tery is reconnected, the vehicle will return the “POWER” switch mode to
the status it was in before the 12-volt battery was disconnected. Make
sure to turn off the power before disconnect the 12-volt battery. Take
extra care when connecting the 12-volt battery if the “POWER” switch
mode prior to discharge is unknown.
Restart the hybrid system, depress the brake pedal, and confirm that it is
possible to shift into each shift position.
If the system will not start even after multiple attempts at all methods above,
contact any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified
and equipped professional.

Use a CR1632 lithium battery
Batteries can be purchased at any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer,
or another duly qualified and equipped professional, local electrical appli-
ance shops or camera stores.
Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the
manufacturer.
Dispose of used batteries according to local laws.
If the electronic key battery is depleted
The following symptoms may occur:
The smart entry & start system and wireless remote control will not func-
tion properly.
The operational range will be reduced.
Remove the depleted battery.
Insert a new battery with the
“+” terminal facing up.
When installing, reverse the steps listed.
