■Alarms and warning indicators
A combination of exterior and interior alarms are used to prevent theft of the
vehicle and unforeseeable accidents resulting from erroneous operation.
Take appropriate measures in response to any warning message shown on
the multi-information display. ( P. 524)
The following table describes circumstances and correction procedures
when only alarms are sounded.

When is pressed for longer than
about one second, an alarm will sound
intermittently and the vehicle lights will
flash to deter any person from trying to
break into or damage your vehicle.
To stop the alarm, press any button on
the electronic key.

Locking the front doors from the outside without a keyMove the inside lock button to the lock position.
Close the door.
The door cannot be locked if the “P OWER” switch is in ACCESSORY
or ON mode, or the electronic key is left inside the vehicle.
The key may not be detected correctly and the door may be locked.

Immobilizer system
■System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type immobilizer system.
■ Conditions affecting operation
Depending on the surrounding environment and conditions, the immobilizer
system may not operate properly. This may prevent the hybrid system from
starting. ( P. 74)
The vehicle’s keys have built-in tr ansponder chips that prevent the
hybrid system from starting if a key has not been previously regis-
tered in the vehicle’s on-board computer.
Never leave the keys inside the vehicle when you leave the vehicle.

Driving the vehicle
The following procedures should be observed to ensure safe driv-
ing:
■ Starting the hybrid system

■ Driving
With the brake pedal depressed, shift the shift position to D.

Check that the shift position indicator shows D. ( P. 216)
Release the parking brake. (P. 214)
Gradually release the brake pedal and gently depress the
accelerator pedal to accelerate the vehicle.
■ Stopping
With the shift position in D, depress the brake pedal.
If necessary, set the parking brake.
When the vehicle will be stopped for an extended period of time,
shift the shift position to P. ( P. 207)
■Parking the vehicle
Stop the vehicle completely.
Set the parking brake. ( P. 214)
Shift the shift position to P. ( P. 207)
Check that the shift position indicator shows P. ( P. 204)
Press the “POWER” switch to stop the hybrid system.
Slowly release the brake pedal.
Lock the door, making sure that you have the electronic key
on your person.
When parking on a hill, block the wheels as needed.
