than N and the engine is running
A buzzer will sound. Close the driver’s door.
If the “M” indicator does not come on even after shifting the shift lever
to M
This may indicate a malfunction in the multi-mode manual transmission sys-

(In this situation, the transmission will operate in the same manner as when
the shift lever is in E.)

vehicle’s various systems.
*1: These lights turn on when the engine switch is turned to the “ON”
position to indicate that a system check is being performed. They
will turn off after the engine is started, or after a few seconds. There
may be a malfunction in a system if a light does not come on, or if
the lights do not turn off. Have the vehicle inspected by any autho-

Selecting tire chains
Use the correct tire chain size when mounting the tire chains.
Chain size is regulated for each tire size.
Side chain
4 mm (0.16 in.) in diameter
Cross chain
5 mm (0.20 in.) in diameter
Regulations on the use of tire chains
Regulations regarding the use of tire chains vary depending on loca-
tion and type of road. Always check local regulations before installing
chains.
When driving the vehicle
Accelerate the vehicle slowly, keep a safe distance between you
and the vehicle ahead, and drive at a reduced speed suitable to
road conditions.
When parking the vehicle (in the winter time or in the cold
latitudes)
Park the vehicle and move the shift lever to E, M or R (vehicles
with a multi-mode manual transmission) or 1 or R (vehicles with
a manual transmission) without setting the parking brake. The
parking brake may freeze up, preventing it from being released.
If necessary, block the wheels to prevent inadvertent sliding or
creeping.

Selecting a play mode
Press the “MENU” button.
Press (Radio).
Press one of to select.
“TA”: The TA (Traffic Announcement) function gives
priority to TA alert messages. To operate, this
function needs good reception of a radio station
transmitting this type of message. When a traffic
report is transmitted, the current audio source
(Radio, CD, USB, etc.) is interrupted automati-
cally to play the TA message. Normal playback
of the audio source resumes at the end of the
transmission of the message.
“RDS”: RDS, if displayed, enables you to continue lis-
tening to the same station by automatically
retuning to alternative frequencies. However, in
certain conditions, coverage of an RDS station
may not be assured throughout the country as
radio stations do not cover 100% of the territory.
This explains the loss of reception of the station
during a journey.
“TXT”: Radio text is information transmitted by the radio
station related to the current program or song.
“Write freq.”: Enter a frequency manually.
Press (+ or -) to select the desired fre-
quency.
Press (OK) to save the setting.

Does your vehicle need repairs?
Be on the alert for changes in performance and sounds, and visual tip-offs
that indicate service is needed. Some important clues are:
Engine misses, stumbling or pinging
Appreciable loss of power
Strange engine noises
A fluid leak under the vehicle (However, water dripping from the air condi-
tioning system after use is normal.)
Change in exhaust sound (This may indicate a dangerous carbon mon-
oxide leak. Drive with the windows open and have the exhaust system
checked immediately.)
Flat-looking tires, excessive tire squeal when cornering, uneven tire wear
Vehicle pulls to one side when driven straight on a level road
Strange noises related to suspension movement
Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling brake pedal or clutch pedal
(vehicles with a manual transmission), pedal almost touches the floor,
vehicle pulls to one side when braking
Engine coolant temperature continually higher than normal
If you notice any of these clues, take your vehicle to any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional as
soon as possible. Your vehicle may need adjustment or repair.
