NoteThe function of the button in the grip above the licence plate is deactivated
when starting off or at a speed of 5 km/hour or more for vehicles with central
locking. The function is restored after the vehicle stops and the door is

If the boot lid is unlocked with the symbol button on the remote control
key, then the door is automatically locked after closing.
The period after which the boot lid is locked automatically can be extended by a specialist garage.
After activation of delayed locking, the boot lid can be opened again after clos-
ing within a limited period.
123Delayed locking can be deactivated by a specialist garage at any time.
CAUTION
There is a risk of unwanted entry into the vehicle before the boot lid is locked
automatically. We therefore recommend locking the vehicle with the symbol
button
on the remote control key.

The electrical power windows can only be operated when the ignition is
switched on.
WARNING■ The electrical power windows are fitted with a force limiter » page 52. If
there is an obstacle, the closing process is stopped and the window goes
down by several centimetres. However, the windows should be closed
carefully – risk of injury!■
Deactivating the electrically operated power windows in the rear doors is
recommended (safety push button)

CAUTION
■
Keep the windows clean to ensure the correct functionality of the electric
windows.■
In the event that the windows are frozen, first of all eliminate the
ice » page 125 , Windows and external mirrors and only then operate the elec-
trical power windows. Otherwise, the window sealing and the electrical power
window mechanism could be damaged.
■
Make sure that the windows are closed whenever you leave the locked vehi-
cle.
For the sake of the environment
At high speeds, you should keep the windows closed to prevent unnecessarily high fuel consumption. 51Unlocking and opening

AUX and MDI inputsFig. 97
AUX input/MDI input
Depending on the equipment, your vehicle may have AUX or MDI inputs (AUX
and USB) for connecting external audio sources.
The connected external audio sources (e.g. iPod or MP3 player) can then be
used for audio playback on your factory installed radio or radio-navigation sys-
tem.
Extension cables to connect external sources are available from ŠKODA origi-
nal accessories.
For a description of use, refer to the operating instructions for the relevant ra-
dio or navigation system.
AUX input
The AUX input is located in one of the following places:
› Between the front seats in the centre console

› On the front of the Amundsen+ navigation system.
Multi-Device Interface (MDI) input
If vehicles are equipped with the MDI input, this will be located above the stor-
age compartment in the front centre console » Fig. 97 -

External sources such as iPod ®

connected to the MDI input
can be operated via your unit.
When the ignition is on and a device is connected via a connecting cable, the
device battery is charged.96Using the system
CAUTION■If the selector lever is moved to mode N while driving, the accelerator pedal
must be released and you will need to wait until the engine has reached its
idling speed before moving the selector lever to a forward driving mode again.■
When the outdoor temperature is below -10 ° C, the selector lever, when
starting, must always be in P mode.
■
When stopping on a slope, never try to keep the vehicle in position by using
the accelerator pedal – this may lead to gear damage.
Note
After the ignition is switched off, the ignition key can only be withdrawn if the
selector lever is in the position P.

The following modes can be selected with the selector lever » Fig. 101.P
– Parking mode
The driven wheels are locked mechanically in this mode.
Parking mode must only be selected when the vehicle is stationary.
R
– Reverse gear
Reverse gear can only be engaged when the vehicle is stationary and the en-
gine is at idling speed.
N
– Neutral
The power transmission to the drive wheels is interrupted in this mode.
D
- Mode for forwards travel (normal programme)
In mode D, the forward gears are automatically changed according to the en-
gine load, accelerator pedal actuation and driving speed.
S
- Mode for forwards travel (sports programme)
In mode S, the forward gears are shifted automatically up and down at higher
engine speeds than in mode D.
Before changing to mode S from mode D , the shift lock button must be press-
ed in the direction of the arrow » Fig. 102.
Fault in the automatic gearbox
A fault in the automatic gearbox is noticeable e.g. with the following.
› Only certain gears are selected.
› The reverse gear
R cannot be used.
› Shifting gears in Tiptronic mode is not possible.
CAUTION
If a fault occurs on the automatic gearbox, help from a professional service
provider should be sought immediately - there is a risk of damaging the vehi-
cle.
Selector lever lock

The selector lever is locked in modes P and N to prevent the forwards travel
mode from being selected accidentally and setting the vehicle in motion.
The selector lever is only locked when the vehicle is stationary and at speeds
up to 5 km/h.
The selector lever lock is indicated by the illumination of the warning light.
102Driving
The selector lever is not locked when quickly moving across the position N
(e.g. from R to D). This, for example, helps to rock out a vehicle that is stuck,
e.g. in a bank of snow. The selector lever lock will engage if the lever is in posi-
tion N for more than approx. 2 seconds without the brake pedal being de-
pressed.
Releasing selector lever from mode P or N (selector lever lock)›
Press the brake pedal and the lock button at the same time in the direction
of the arrow » Fig. 102 on page 102 .
Just depress the brake pedal, if you would like to change from the mode N to
D .
Defective selector lever lock
If the selector lever lock is defective or its power supply is interrupted (e.g. dis-
charged vehicle battery, faulty fuse), the selector lever can no longer be moved
out of position P in the normal manner and the vehicle can no longer be driven.
The selector lever must be emergency released » page 162.
Note
If you want to move the selector lever from mode P to mode D or vice versa,
move the selector lever quickly. This prevents modes R or N from being acci-
dentally selected.
Manual shifting of gears (Tiptronic)

Tiptronic mode makes it possible to manually shift gears on the selector lever. This mode can be selected both while stopping and while driving.
The currently selected gear is indicated in the » Fig. 101 on page 102 display.

It may be beneficial, for example, when travelling downhill, to use manual
shifting of gears. Shifting to a lower gear reduces the load on the brakes and
hence the wear on the brakes » page 99, Information on braking .■
When accelerating, the gearbox automatically shifts up into the higher gear
just before the maximum permissible engine speed is reached.
■
If a lower gear is selected, the gearbox does not shift down until there is no
risk of the engine over-revving.

Start the engine.

Firmly depress and hold the brake pedal.
›
Press the lock button in the direction of the arrow » Fig. 102 on page 102 and
keep pressing.

Move the selector lever into the desired position » page 102and then release
the lock button.

Release the brake pedal and accelerate.
Stopping (while the car is moving)
›
Depress the brake pedal and bring the vehicle to a stop.
›
Keep holding the brake pedal until driving is resumed.
The selector lever position N does not have to be selected when stopping for a
short time, such as at a cross roads.
Kickdown
The kickdown function allows you to achieve the maximum acceleration of
your vehicle while driving.
When the accelerator pedal is fully depressed, the kickdown function is activa-
ted in any forward driving mode.

WARNINGIf the engine power and engine braking effect is insufficient to maintain
the set speed, steering must be taken over!

After starting the system, the current speed is stored and the indicator light

After the interruption in the control, the stored speed can be resumed by

Automatic control interruption
Automatic control interruption occurs if any of the following conditions are
met.
› By pressing the brake or clutch pedal.
› When one of the brake assist systems (e.g. ESC) intervenes.
› Through an airbag deployment.
WARNING■
Always deactivate the cruise control system after use to prevent the sys-
tem being switched on unintentionally.■
Control may only be resumed if the stored speed is not too high for the
current traffic conditions.
Note
During control, speed can be increased by pressing the accelerator pedal. Re-
leasing the accelerator pedal will cause the speed to drop again to the set
speed.

The START-STOP system (hereinafter referred to as the system) saves fuel and
reduces polluting emissions and CO 2 emissions by turning the engine off, e.g.
when stopping at traffic lights, and starting the engine again when moving off.
WARNING■ Never let the vehicle roll with the engine switched off.■The brake servo unit and power steering only operate if the engine is run-
ning.109Assist systems
Automatic engine shutdown takes place, segment display shows START-STOP
ACTIVE or a check mark appears in the MAXI DOT display symbol » Fig. 108 on
page 110 .
Automatic engine start›
Release the brake pedal.
The automatic start procedure takes place again.
Further information on automatic transmission
The automatic engine shut down takes place when the selector lever is in po-
sitions P, D , S and N and in Tiptronic mode.
When the selector lever is in position P, the engine remains shut down even
after you release the brake pedal. The engine starts automatically by pressing
the gas pedal or by moving the selector lever into a different mode and releas-
ing the brake pedal.
If the engine is off due to the automatic and the selector lever is put to the R
position, then the automatic start up of the engine.
If the gear selector is moved from position R to the position D, S or N, the vehi-
cle must reach a speed of more than 10 km / h before the automatic engine
shutdown starts.
There is no automatic engine shutdown when the system detects a vehicle
moving due to a large steering angle.
No automatic engine shutdown takes place when the vehicle is moving at low
speed (e.g. during a traffic jam or when turning) and remains stationary after
pressing the brake pedal lightly. Automatic engine shutdown takes place if you
press the brake pedal down with more force.
System related automatic start-up

When the engine is off, the system can automatically start the engine beforethe desired journey continues. Some possible reasons for this are.
› The vehicle begins to roll, e.g. on a slope.
› The brake pedal has been actuated several times.
› The current consumption is too high.

START MANUALLY
One of the conditions for automatic engine start is not satisfied or the driver's
seat belt is not fastened. The engine must be started manually.
