When the child restraint is not in use, remove
it from the vehicle or secure it with the seat
belt to prevent the child restraint from
becoming a projectile in the event of an
accident.
Special seat belt retractor The seat belt on the front-passenger seat is
equipped with a special seat belt retractor.
When enabled, the special seat belt retractor
ensures that the seat belt does not slacken
once the child seat is secured.
Installing a child restraint system:
X Always comply with the manufacturer's
installation instructions.
X Pull the seat belt smoothly from the seat
belt retractor.
X Engage the seat belt tongue in the belt
buckle.
Activating the special seat belt retractor:
X Pull the seat belt out fully and let the seat
belt retractor retract it again.
While the seat belt is retracting, you should
hear a ratcheting sound. The special seat
belt retractor is activated.
X Push down on the child restraint system to
take up any slack.
Removing a child restraint system/
deactivating the special seat belt retractor:
X Always comply with the manufacturer's
installation instructions.
X Press the seat belt release button and
guide the belt tongue to the belt outlet.
The special seat belt retractor is
deactivated. G
WARNING
Never release the seat belt buckle while the
vehicle is in motion, since the special seat belt

The trunk lid swings upwards when
opened. Therefore, make sure that there is
sufficient clearance above the trunk lid.
Coupe: to fully open the trunk lid, a minimum
height of 5.5 ft (1.68 m) from the ground is
necessary.
Roadster: to fully open the trunk lid, a
minimum height of 5.7 ft (1.75 m) from the
ground is necessary.
The trunk lid can be:
R opened automatically from outside
R opened automatically from inside
R locked separately
R unlocked with the mechanical key

seat cushions, e.g. knives, nails or tools.
The seats should only be occupied by
passengers, if possible.

materials, e.g. blankets, coats, bags,
seat covers, child seats or booster seats.
! When you move the seats, make sure that
there are no objects in the footwell or
behind the seats. Otherwise, you could

level 3repeatedly.
The three red indicator lamps in the button
indicate the heating level you have selected.

The system automatically switches down
from level 3to level 2after approximately five
minutes.
The system automatically switches down
from level 2to level 1after approximately ten
minutes.
The system automatically switches off
approximately 20 minutes after it is set to

X Select key position 2with the Start/Stop
button.
X To switch on: press button:repeatedly
until the desired heating level is set.

until all the indicator lamps go out.
Problems with the seat heating The seat heating has switched off
prematurely or cannot be switched on. The
vehicle's electrical system voltage is too low
because too many electrical consumers are
switched on.
X Switch off electrical consumers that you do
not need, such as the rear window
defroster or interior lighting.
Once the battery is sufficiently charged, the
seat heating will switch back on
automatically. AIRSCARF (Roadster)

WARNING
Very hot air can flow out of the AIRSCARF
vents in the head restraints when AIRSCARF
is in operation. This can cause burns on
unprotected skin near the AIRSCARF vents.
Make sure that you reduce the heater output
in time.
The AIRSCARF function warms the head and
neck area of vehicle occupants with warm air.
The warm air flows out of the holes in the head
restraints.
The three red indicator lamps in the button
indicate the heating level you have selected. X
Make sure that the SmartKey is in
position 2in the ignition lock.
X To activate: press button :.

up. The blower starts up after a preheating
phase of seven seconds.
X Press button :repeatedly until the

You can use the adjustable fins on the head
restraint to adjust the height of the current of
air blown out according to your height.
Make sure that there are no objects covering

Hood release lever in driver's footwell

Pull release lever :on the hood.
The hood is released.
! Make sure that the windshield wipers are
not folded away from the windshield. You
could otherwise damage the windshield
wipers or the hood. X
Reach into the gap, pull hood catch
handle ;up and lift the hood.
Closing the hood X
Lower the hood and let it fall from a height
of approximately 8 inches (20 cm).
X Check that the hood has engaged properly.
If the hood can be raised slightly, it is not
properly engaged. Open it again and close
it with a little more force. Engine oil
General notes Depending on the driving style, the vehicle
consumes up to 0.9 US qt (0.8 l) of oil over a
distance of 600 miles (1000 km). The oil
consumption may be higher than this when
the vehicle is new or if you frequently drive at
high engine speeds.
Depending on the engine, the oil dipstick may
be in a different location.
When checking the oil level:
R
park the vehicle on a level surface.
R the engine should be switched off for
approximately five minutes if the engine is
at normal operating temperature.
R if the engine is not at normal operating
temperature, e.g. if the engine was only
started briefly, wait about 30 minutes
before carrying out the measurement.

Make sure that the ground on which the
vehicle is standing and where you place the
jack is solid, level and not slippery. If
necessary, use a large underlay. On slippery
surfaces, such as tiled floors, you should use
a non-slip underlay, for example a rubber mat.
Do not use wooden blocks or similar objects
as a jack underlay. Otherwise, the jack may
not be able to achieve its load-bearing
capacity if it is not at its full height.
Never start the engine when the vehicle is
raised.
Also observe the notes on the jack. X
Using lug wrench :, loosen the bolts on
the wheel you wish to change by about one
full turn. Do not unscrew the wheel bolts
completely.

between the front and rear wheel housings

WARNING
The jack is designed exclusively for jacking up
the vehicle at the jacking points. The jack saddle must be placed centrally under the
jacking point.
If you do not position the jack correctly in the
jacking point, the vehicle can fall off the jack
and seriously or fatally injure you or others.
