The alarm is not switched off, even if you
close the open door that triggered it, for
example.
i If the alarm stays on for more than
30 seconds, the mbrace emergency call
system 1
automatically initiates a call to the
Customer Assistance center. The mbrace
emergency call system initiates the call if:
R you have subscribed to the mbrace
service
R the mbrace service has been activated
properly
R the required mobile phone, power supply
and GPS are available. X
To arm: lock the vehicle with the
SmartKey.
The turn signal lamps flash three times and
an acoustic warning sounds three times to
indicate that the vehicle is locked. Flashing
indicator lamp 0043indicates that the alarm
system is armed.
i If the turn signal lamps do not flash three
times and the warning tone does not sound
three times, a door or the trunk lid may not
be properly closed. It may be necessary to close the affected
door or trunk lid.
X To disarm: unlock the vehicle with the
SmartKey.
The turn signal lamps flash once and a
warning tone sounds once, indicating that
the alarm system is disarmed.
i Unless you open a door or the trunk within
approximately 40 second safter unlocking:
R the vehicle will be locked again
R the alarm system will be rearmed
X To stop the alarm: press the Start/Stop
button in the center console. The SmartKey
must be inside the vehicle.
or
X Press the 0036or0037 button on the
SmartKey.
or
X Insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.
The alarm is switched off. Tow-away alarm
An audible and visual alarm is triggered if your
vehicle's angle of inclination is altered while
the tow-away alarm is armed. This occurs if
the vehicle is jacked up on one side, for
example.
i If the alarm stays on for more than 30
seconds, the mbrace 2
system initiates a
call to the Customer Assistance Center
automatically. The emergency call system
initiates the call provided that:
R you have subscribed to the mbrace
service
R the mbrace service has been activated
properly
R the required mobile phone, power supply
and GPS are available.

Insert the mechanical key fully into trunk
lid lock 0043in the rear compartment of the
center console.
X Turn the mechanical key clockwise as far
as possible.
X Remove the mechanical key.
X Check that the trunk remains locked when
you press on the trunk lid remote control
button. Unlocking the trunk (mechanical key)
If the trunk can no longer be unlocked with
the SmartKey:
X Take the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Y page 63). X
Insert the mechanical key fully into trunk
lid lock 0043in the center console in the
vehicle interior.
X Turn the mechanical key counter-clockwise
as far as possible.
The trunk lid opens slightly. Trunk emergency release
You can open the trunk lid from inside the
vehicle with the emergency release button. X
Briefly press emergency release
button 0043.
The trunk lid unlocks and opens slightly.
X Push the trunk lid upwards to open it
completely.
The trunk lid can be unlocked with the trunk
lid emergency release when the vehicle is
stationary or while driving.
Trunk lid emergency release light:
R emergency release button 0043flashes for
30 minutes after the trunk lid is opened.
R emergency release button 0043flashes for
60 minutes after the trunk lid is closed.
The trunk lid emergency release does not
unlock the trunk lid if the battery is
disconnected or discharged.
If the vehicle was locked centrally, opening
the trunk lid with the trunk lid emergency
release triggers the anti-theft alarm system. Side windows

When opening and closing the side windows,
make sure that nobody can be injured by the
opening or closing procedure.
The side windows are equipped with

reached operating temperature. The
operating temperature has been reached
when the engine oil temperature display in
the on-board computer's AMG menu no
longer flashes.
Only shift into reverse gear when the
vehicle is stationary.
Where possible, avoid spinning the drive
wheels when pulling away on slippery
roads. You could otherwise damage the
drive train.
! During a cold start with low engine oil
temperatures (below 32 ‡) (0 †), the
maximum engine speed is restricted in
order to protect the engine. To protect the
engine and maintain smooth engine
operation, avoid driving at full throttle when
the engine is cold. Key positions
KEYLESS-GO start function You can switch the engine on and off with the
Start/Stop button. For this, the SmartKey
must be inside the vehicle. The Start/Stop
button is located in the center console and is
illuminated when the vehicle is unlocked.
Pressing the Start/Stop button several times
in succession corresponds to the different
key positions in the ignition lock. This is only
the case if you are not depressing the brake
pedal.
If you depress the brake pedal and press the
Start/Stop button, the engine starts
immediately.
If there is a SmartKey in the ignition lock, this
takes precedence over the KEYLESS-GO start
function. X
Position 0: if Start/Stop button 0043has not
yet been pressed, this corresponds to the
SmartKey being removed from the ignition.
X Position 1: press Start/Stop button 0043.
You can now activate the windshield
wipers, for example.
If you press Start/Stop button 0043twice when
in this position and the driver's door is open,
the power supply is deactivated again.
X Position 2(ignition): press Start/Stop
button 0043twice.
The power supply is switched off again if:
R you press Start/Stop button 0043once when
in this position
R the driver's door is open
SmartKey You can also start the vehicle with the
SmartKey in the ignition lock.
The ignition lock is located in the rear
stowage space of the center console. Driving

The transmission could be damaged.
i The E-SELECT lever always returns to its
original position.
The current transmission position P,R, N
or Dappears in the transmission position
display in the multifunction display.
If you wish to select a transmission position
or to disengage park position P, the engine
must be running.
Engaging park position P
X When the vehicle is stationary, depress the
brake pedal.
X Press the Pbutton in the center console.
i Park position Pis disengaged if you:
R depress the brake pedal and
R push the E-SELECT lever forwards or
back to the first point of resistance
The transmission shifts to neutral N.
To shift directly from Pto R:
X Depress the brake pedal and push the
E-SELECT lever forwards past the first
point of resistance.
To shift directly from Pto D:
X Depress the brake pedal and push the
E-SELECT lever back past the first
point of resistance.
Engaging park position P automatically
Park position is engaged automatically in the
following circumstances:
R if you switch off the engine using the Start/
Stop button and open the driver's or front-
passenger door.
R if you remove the SmartKey from the
ignition lock.
R if you open the door while traveling at low
speed in transmission position Dor R. Shifting to neutral N
X
When the vehicle is stationary, depress the
brake pedal.
X Push the E-SELECT lever forwards or back
to the first point of resistance.
i If you use the E-SELECT lever to shift the
transmission to Nbefore switching off the
engine, the transmission remains for
approximately 30 minutes in N. If you open
the driver's or front-passenger door during
this period, the transmission automatically
shifts to P.
The transmission remains in Nif:
R the SmartKey is in the ignition lock and
R you use the E-SELECT lever to shift the
transmission to Nbefore switching the
engine off
This still applies if you open the driver's or
front-passenger door.

Engaging reverse gear R
X When the vehicle is stationary, depress the
brake pedal.
X Push the E-SELECT lever forward past the
first point of resistance.
Shifting to transmission position D
X When the vehicle is stationary, depress the
brake pedal.
X Push the E-SELECT lever back past the first

To ensure that the vehicle is secured against
rolling away unintentionally:
R the electric parking brake must be applied.
R the transmission must be in position P.
R the SmartKey must be in position 0in the
ignition lock and then removed from the
ignition lock, or the Start/Stop button must
be pressed.
R on steep uphill or downhill gradients, turn
the front wheels towards the curb.
R on steep uphill or downhill gradients, the
front axle of an empty vehicle must be
secured, for example with a wheel chock.
R on steep uphill or downhill gradients, the
rear axle of a laden vehicle must be
additionally secured, for example with a
wheel chock. Switching off the engine

WARNING
When the engine is switched off, the
transmission shifts into neutral position N.
The vehicle may roll away. There is a risk of
an accident.
After switching off the engine, always switch
to parking position P. Prevent the parked
vehicle from rolling away by applying the
parking brake.
! Do not open the driver's door while the
vehicle is in motion. At low speeds in
transmission position Dor R, park position
P is otherwise engaged automatically. This
can damage the transmission.
i Observe the display messages in the
instrument cluster.

Shift the transmission to Pwith the button
in the center console. Using the Start/Stop button

Press the Start/Stop button (Y page 113).
The engine stops and all the indicator
lamps in the instrument cluster go out.
X Apply the electric parking brake.
i If you switch the engine off with the
transmission in position Ror D, the
transmission automatically shifts to N.
If you move the E-SELECT lever to Nbefore
switching off the engine, the transmission
remains for approximately 30 minutes
in N.
If you open the driver's or front-passenger
door during this period, the transmission
automatically shifts to P.
i The engine can be turned off while the
vehicle is in motion by pressing and holding
the Start/Stop button for about three
seconds.
Using the SmartKey
! Do not remove the SmartKey while the
vehicle is in motion. At low speeds, park
position Pwill otherwise be engaged
automatically.
Do not open the driver's door while the
vehicle is in motion. At low speeds,
transmission position Pis engaged
automatically.
This can damage the transmission.
X Turn the SmartKey to position 0in the
ignition lock and remove it.
The parking lock is activated.
X Apply the electric parking brake.
i If you move the E-SELECT lever to N
before switching off the engine, the
transmission remains for approximately
30 minutes in N. If you open the driver's or
front-passenger door during this period,
the transmission automatically shifts to P.128
