Problems with the side windows

WARNING
Closing the side windows with increased force or without the anti-entrapment feature could lead
to serious or even fatal injury. Make sure that nobody can become trapped when closing the side
windows. G
WARNING
Pulling and holding the switch to close the door window immediately after it had been blocked
two times will cause the door window to close without the anti-entrapment feature for as long
as you hold the switch. Problem Possible causes/consequences and

Immediately after the window blocks, pull the corresponding
switch again until the side window has closed.
The side window is closed with increased force.
If a side window is obstructed again during closing and reopens
again slightly:
X Immediately after the window blocks, pull the corresponding
switch again until the side window has closed.
The side window is closed without the anti-entrapmen tfeature. Roof

WARNING
Always open or close the roof fully before
driving.
If the roof does not open or close fully, the
roof hydraulic system is depressurized and
the roof is lowered:
R after about seven minutes if the ignition is
switched on
R after about
15 seconds if the ignition is switched off Aw
arning tone sounds shortly beforehand.
The 0008 symbol and Vario-Roof Lowering message appear in the
multifunction display.
Lock the roof again before driving on.
Otherwise, the unlocked roo fcould open
during the journey and cause you to lose
control of your vehicle. You and/or other
persons could be injured as a result. G
WARNING
Closing the roof manually is a complex,
technically challenging procedure. Roof

Attempting to manually close the roof may
cause damage to the roo fand/o rinjury.
For this reason, the manual closing process
should only be carried ou tataqualified
specialist workshop.
! Never sit on the rear shelf or store heavy
objects there. You will otherwise damage
the roof and the rear shelf of your vehicle.
! Do not forget that the weather can
change abruptly. Make certain that the roof
is closed when you leave the vehicle. The
vehicle electronics can be damaged if
water enters the vehicle interior.
! When opening and closing the roof, make
sure that:
R there is sufficien tclearance, as the roof
swings upwards.
R there is sufficien tclearance behind the
vehicle, as the trunk lid swings
backwards beyond the bumper.
R the trunk is only loaded to below the
trunk partition.
R the trunk partition is not pushed up by
the load.
R the trunk partition is closed.
R the trunk lid is closed.
R the outside temperature is above 5‡
( 001A 15 †).
You could otherwise damage the roof,
trunk and other parts of the vehicle.
i Make sure that the roof and rear window
are clea nand dry before opening the roof.
Otherwise, water or dirt could ente rthe
vehicle interior or trunk. Opening and closing using the roof

WARNING
Before operating the retractable hardtop
(vario-roof), make sure there is no danger of anyone being injured by the moving parts
(retractable hardtop, roof frame, and trunk
lid).
Hands must never be placed near the roof
frame, upper windshield area, hardtop, shelf
behind roll bars, or trunk lid while the
retractable hardtop is being raised or
lowered. Serious personal injury may occur.
If potential danger exists, release the
retractable hardtop switch or the 0010or
000F button on the SmartKey. This
immediately interrupts the raising or lowering
procedure. You can then operate the
retractable hardtop switch or press the
0010 or000F button on the SmartKey to raise
or lower the retractable hardtop away from
the danger zone.
Opening/closing X
Secure the vehicle against rolling away
(Y page 155).
X Close the trunk partition (Y page 88).
X Close the trunk lid.
X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Open the cover in the lower center console.
Roof switch 0003is located under the cover.
X To open: pull roof switch 0003until the roof
has been fully retracted into the trunk and
the Vario-Roof in Operation message
disappears from the multifunction display.
All of the side windows open.
X To close: press roof switch 0003until the roof
is fully closed and the Vario-Roof in86

X To close all side windows, pull the switch
under the cover of the center console
(Y page 82).
i If you operate the roof switch and the
Trunk Partition Open message appears
in the multifunction display, the trunk
partition has not been closed correctly. Opening and closing using the

tip of the SmartKey at the door handle on
the driver's door. X
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: the
SmartKey must be within 6 ft (2 m) of the
vehicle.
X To open: press and hold the 0010button
on the SmartKey until the roof is fully
opened.
The roof and the rear side windows open.
The front side windows close.
X To interrupt the opening procedure:
release the 0010button.
X To open the front side windows: press
and hold the 0010button on the SmartKey
again.
X To close: press and hold the 000Fbutton
on the SmartKey until the roof is fully
closed.
The roof and the side windows close.
X To interrupt the closing procedure:
release the 000Fbutton.
i When the roof is closed and the trunk
partition is open, the roof cannot be
opened using the SmartKey functions.
Instead, all of the side windows open or
close simultaneously (Y page 82).
Additionally, the Trunk Partition Open message appears in the multifunction
display. Locking the roof again

WARNING
Stop the vehicle in a safe location or as soon
as it is safe to do so and lock the retractable
hardtop before continuing to drive. You could
otherwise endanger yourselfa nd others. Roof

The roof is not locked if:
R
the 0008 symbol and Vario-Roof In Operation message appear in the
multifunction display
R the 0008 symbol and Open/Close Vario-
Roof Completely message appear and
you hear a warning tone
R you hear a warning tone for up to
10 seconds when pulling away or while
driving.
Locking You can lock the roof again if it is not locked
fully.
X Pull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon
as possible, paying attention to road and
traffic conditions.
X Make sure that the SmartKey is in position
2in the ignition lock.
X Press the roof switch (Y page 86).Trunk partition
General notes !
To avoid damaging the roof or luggage
when folding back the roof, you should:
R only load the trunk to below the trunk
partition
R not place any objects on or in frontoft he
trunk partition
R not place any objects on the cover
behind the roll bars
R not allow the cargo to push the trunk
partition upwards
The trunk partition can be used to cover
luggage and loads in the trunk. Opening/closing X
To close: pull back trunk partition 0003by
the handle in the direction of the arrow until
it engages on both sides in the eyelets on
the cargo compartment lip.
X To open: grip the handle of trunk
partition 0003.
X Press the release button in the handle of
trunk partition 0003.
Trunk partition 0003is unlocked.
X Pull trunk partition 0003up out of the eyelets
on the cargo compartment lip.
X Push trunk partition 0003forwards against
the direction of the arrow by handle . Wind screen
Important safety notes G
WARNING
If you use the wind screen when it is dark or
in other conditions offering poor visibility,
your view to the rear is further impaired. As a
result of the poor visibility, you could cause
an accident and injure yourself or others.
For this reason, remove the wind screen as
soon as it is dark or if your vision is otherwise
restricted. G
WARNING
You could lose control of the vehicle and
injure yourself or others if you operate the
wind screen while driving. 88

When the climate control system is switched
off, the outside air supply and circulation are
also switched off .Only choose this setting for
a short time when the retractable hardtop
(vario-roof) is closed .Otherwise, the windows
could fog up, impairing visibility and
endangering you and others.
i Switch on climate control primarily using
the 0005 button ( Ypage 126).
Air-conditioning system X
To activate: turn airflow control
0015(Y page 121) clockwise to the desired
positio n(except position 0).
X To deactivate: turn airflow control
0015(Y page 121) counter-clockwise to
position 0. 3-zone automatic climate control X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X To switch on: press the0005button.
The indicator lamp in the 0005button lights
up. Airflow and air distribution are set to
automatic mode.
or
X Press the 000Cbutton.
The indicator lamp in the 000Cbutton goes
out. The previously selected settings are
restored.
X To switch off: press the000Cbutton.
The indicator lamp in the 000Cbutton lights
up. Activating/deactivating cooling with
air dehumidification
General notes G
WARNING
If you switch off the cooling function, the
vehicle will not be cooled when weather
conditions are warm. The windows can fog up
more quickly. This may preven tyou from
observing the traffic conditions, thereby
causing an accident.
The cooling with air dehumidification function
is only available when the engine is running.
The air inside the vehicle is cooled and
dehumidified according to the temperature
selected.
Condensation may drip from the underside of
the vehicle when it is in cooling mode. This is
normal and not a sign that there is a

WARNING
Stowage nets are only intended for
transporting ligh tloads such as road maps,
mail, etc.
Do not use stowage nets to transpor theavy,
bulky, sharp-edged or fragile objects. In an
accident, during hard braking or during a
change of direction, they could be thrown
around inside the vehicle and cause injury to
vehicle occupants.
Stowage nets cannot protec tthe transported
loads in the event of an accident.
Stowage nets are located in the front-
passenger footwell and on the rear wall
behind the driver's seat. Reversible floor panel in the trunk
Using the flat side of the reversible floor panel
will give you alevel trunk. If you turn the
reversible floor panel over, you can transport
objects, for example a drinks crate, on it. X
To turn over: pull up reversible floor
panel 0004using strap 0003.
X Turn over reversible floor panel 0004and re-
insert it. Attached to the reversible floor panel are two
flexible straps
0004that you can use to secure
objects, for example wind screen 0024, when
reversible floor panel 0003has been turned
over. Roof carrier
! This vehicle is not designed to transport
items on the roof. Roof carriers and other
devices which are mounted on the roof that
have not been specifically approved for this
model by Mercedes-Benzm ust notbe used
as they could damage the vehicle and the
retractable hardtop (vario-roof).
At the time of going to print, Mercedes-
Benzd oes not offer any roof carrier or other
roof-installed devices for this model.
! This vehicle is not designed to transport
any items on the trunk lid or to allow 258

wax. These products are only suitable for
high-gloss surfaces
.Their use on vehicles
with matte finish leads to considerable
surface damage (shiny, spotted areas).
Always have paintwork repairs carried out
at a qualified specialist workshop.
! Do not use wash programs with a hot wax
treatment under any circumstances.
Observe these notes if your vehicle has a
clear matte finish. This will help you to avoid
damage to the paintwork due to incorrect
treatment.
These notes also apply to light alloy wheels
with a clear matte finish.
i The vehicle should preferably be washed
by hand using a soft sponge, car shampoo
and plenty of water.
i Use only insect remover and car shampoo
from the range of recommended and
approved Mercedes-Ben zcare products. Cleaning the vehicle parts
Cleaning the wheels !
Do no tuse acidic wheel cleaning products
to remove brake dust. This could damage
wheel bolts and brake components.
! Do not park the vehicle for an extended
period straight after cleaning it, particularly
after having cleaned the wheels with wheel
cleaner. Wheel cleaners could cause
increased corrosion of the brake discs and
brake pads/linings. For this reason, you
should drive for a few minutes after
cleaning. Braking heats the brake discs and
the brake pads/linings, thus drying them.
The vehicle can then be parked.
Cleaning the windows G
WARNING
Before cleaning the windshieldorw iper
blades, switch off the windshield wipers and
remove the SmartKey from the ignition lock. On vehicles with KEYLESS-GO, press the
Start/Stop button repeatedly until all
indicator lamps in the instrumen tcluster have
gone out. The windshield wipers could
otherwise move and injure you. G
WARNING
Do not clean the rear window with the
reatractable hardtop (vario-roof) in a position
other than the fully raised and closed position.
Otherwise, the retractable hardtop may move
unexpectedly which may result in personal
injury to you or others.
! Do not use dry cloths, abrasive products,
solvents or cleaning agent scontaining
solvents to clean the inside of the windows.
Do not touch the insides of the windows
with hard objects, e.g. an ice scraper or
ring. There is otherwise a risk of damaging
the windows.
! Clean the water drainage channels of the
windshield and the rear window at regular
intervals. Deposits such as leaves, petals
and pollen may under certain
circumstances prevent water from draining
away.T his can lead to corrosion damage
and damage to electronic components.
X Cleant he inside and outside of the
windows with a damp cloth and a cleaning
agent that is recommended and approved
by Mercedes-Benz.
Cleaning the wiper blades G
WARNING
Before cleaning the windshield or wiper
blades, switch off the windshield wipers and
remove the SmartKey from the ignition lock.
On vehicles with KEYLESS-GO, press the
Start/Stop button repeatedly until all
indicator lamps in the instrumentc luster have
gone out. The windshield wipers could
otherwise move and injure you.
! Do not pull the wiper blade. Otherwise,
