After the 12-volt battery has discharged or has been changed or removed
The gasoline engine may not stop even if the vehicle is being driven by the
hybrid battery (traction battery). If this continues for a few days, contact any
authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped pro-
fessional.
Sounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicle
There may be no engine sound or vibration even though the vehicle is able to
move. For safety, apply the parking brake and make sure to shift the shift lever to
P when parked.
The following sounds or vibrations may occur when the hybrid system is operat-
ing and are not a malfunction:
Motor sounds may be heard from under the vehicle.
Sounds may be heard from the hybrid battery (traction battery) behind the rear
seats when the hybrid system starts or stops.
Sounds from the hybrid system may be heard when the trunk lid is open.
Sounds may be heard from the hybrid transmission when the hybrid system
starts or stops.
Engine sounds may be heard when accelerating sharply.
Sounds may be heard due to regenerative braking when the brake pedal is
depressed.
Vibration may be felt when the gasoline engine starts or stops.
Cooling fan sounds may be heard from the air intake vents on the both sides of
the rear seatback.
Maintenance, repair, recycling, and disposal
Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional regarding maintenance, repair, recycling and disposal. Do
not dispose of the vehicle yourself.
Customization
Settings (e.g. on/off operation of the EV indicator) can be changed.

CAUTION
Road accident cautions
Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of death or serious injury:
Pull your vehicle off the road, apply the parking brake, shift the shift lever to
P, and turn the hybrid system off.
Do not touch the high voltage parts, cables and connectors.
If electric wires are exposed inside or outside your vehicle, an electric shock
may occur. Never touch exposed electric wires.
If a fluid leak occurs, do not touch the fluid as it may be strong alkaline elec-
trolyte from the hybrid battery (traction battery). If it comes into contact with
your skin or eyes, wash it off immediately with a large amount of water or, if
possible, boric acid solution. Seek immediate medical attention.
If a fire occurs in the hybrid vehicle, leave the vehicle as soon as possible.
Never use a fire extinguisher that is not meant for electric fires. Using even a
small amount of water may be dangerous.
If your vehicle needs to be towed, do so with rear wheels raised. If the wheels
connected to the electric motor (traction motor) are on the ground when tow-
ing, the motor may continue to generate electricity. This may cause an elec-
tricity leakage leading to a fire. (P. 500)
Carefully inspect the ground under the vehicle. If you find that liquid has
leaked onto the ground, the fuel system may have been damaged. Leave the
vehicle as soon as possible.

Luggage security system
CAUTION
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in death or serious
injury.
When folding the rear seatbacks down
Do not fold the seatbacks down while driving.
Stop the vehicle on level ground, set the parking brake and shift the shift lever
to P.
Do not allow anyone to sit on a folded seatback or in the trunk while driving.
Do not allow children to enter the trunk.
After returning the rear seatback to the upright position
Check that the seat belts are not twisted or caught in the seatback.
Make sure that the seatback is securely
locked in position by lightly pushing it
back and forth.
If the seatback is not securely locked, the
red marking will be visible on the seat-
back lock release knob. Make sure that
the red marking is not visible.

With the brake pedal depressed, shift the shift lever to D. (P. 216)
Release the parking brake. (P. 224)
Gradually release the brake pedal and gently depress the accelerator
pedal to accelerate the vehicle.
With the shift lever in D, depress the brake pedal.
If necessary, set the parking brake.
If the vehicle is to be stopped for an extended period of time, shift the shift
lever to P. (P. 216)
With the shift lever in D, depress the brake pedal.
Set the parking brake. (P. 224)
Shift the shift lever to P. (P. 216)
If parking on a hill, block the wheels as needed.
Press the power switch to stop the hybrid system.
Lock the door, making sure that you have the electronic key on your
person.
Make sure that the parking brake is set and shift the shift lever to D.
Gently depress the accelerator pedal.
Release the parking brake.
