After the 12-volt battery has discharged or has been changed or removed
The gasoline engine may not stop even if the vehicle is running on the hybrid
battery (traction battery). If this continues for a few days, contact any autho-
rized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.
Sounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicle
There may be no engine sounds or vibration even though the vehicle is able
to move. For safety, apply the parking brake and make sure to shift the shift
position to P when parked.
The following sounds or vibrations may occur when the hybrid system is
operating and are not a malfunction:
Motor sounds may be heard from the engine compartment.
Sounds may be heard from the hybrid battery (traction battery) behind the
rear seats when the hybrid system starts or stops.
Sounds from the hybrid system may be heard when the trunk lid is open.
Sounds may be heard from the hybrid transmission when the hybrid system
starts or stops.
Engine sounds may be heard when accelerating sharply.
Sounds may be heard due to regenerative braking when the brake pedal is
depressed.
Vibration may be felt when the gasoline engine starts or stops.
Cooling fan sounds may be heard from the air intake vents on the both sides
of the rear seatback.
Maintenance, repair, recycling, and disposal
Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified
and equipped professional regarding maintenance, repair, recycling and dis-
posal. Do not dispose of the vehicle yourself.
Customization
Settings (e.g. on/off operation of the EV indicator) can be changed.

Alarm
The alarm uses light and sound to give an alert when an intrusion is
detected.
The alarm is triggered in the following situations when the alarm is
set:
A locked door is unlocked or opened in any way other than using
the entry function or wireless remote control. (The door will lock
again automatically.)
A trunk is opened in any way other than using the entry function,
wireless remote control or mechanical key.
The hood is opened.
The tilt sensor detects a change of vehicle inclination. (if
equipped)
Close the doors, trunk and hood,
and lock all the doors using the
entry function or wireless remote
control. The system will be set
automatically after 30 seconds.
The indicator light changes from
being on to flashing when the sys-
tem is set.

Do one of the following to deactivate or stop the alarm:
Unlock the doors or open the trunk using the entry function or
wireless remote control.
Turn the power switch to ACCESSORY or ON mode, or start the
hybrid system. (The alarm will be deactivated or stopped after a
few seconds.)
System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system.
Items to check before locking the vehicle
To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm and vehicle theft, make sure of
the following:
Nobody is in the vehicle.
The windows and moon roof (if equipped) are closed before the alarm is
set.
No valuables or other personal items are left in the vehicle.

Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be triggered in the following situations:
(Stopping the alarm deactivates the alarm system.)
Alarm-operated door lock
When the alarm is operating, the doors are locked automatically to prevent
intruders.
Do not leave the key inside the vehicle when the alarm is operating, and
make sure the key is not inside the vehicle when recharging or replacing the
12-volt battery.
Customization
The alarm can be set to deactivate when the mechanical key is used to
unlock.

The doors are unlocked using the

Card key (if equipped)
The card key is not waterproof.
The mechanical key that is stored inside the card key should be used only if
a problem arises, such as when the card key does not operate properly.
If it is difficult to take out the mechanical key, push down the lock release
button using a pen tip etc. If it is still difficult to pull it out, use a coin etc.
When required to leave the vehicle’s key with a parking attendant
Turn the trunk opener main switch off and lock the glove box as circum-
stances demand. (P. 188, 689)
Remove the mechanical key for your own use and provide the attendant with
the electronic key only.
If you lose your mechanical keys
New genuine mechanical keys can be made by any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional using the
other mechanical key and the key number stamped on your key number plate.
Keep the plate in a safe place such as your wallet, not in the vehicle.
To store the mechanical key in the card
key, insert it while pressing the lock
release button.
If the battery cover is not installed and
the battery falls out or if the battery was
removed because the key got wet, rein-
stall the battery with the positive termi-
nal facing the Lexus emblem.

Smart entry & start system
The following operations can be performed simply by carrying the
electronic key (including the card key) on your person, for example
in your pocket. (The driver should always carry the electronic key.)
Operation signals
The emergency flashers flash to indicate that the doors have been locked/
unlocked. (Locked: once; Unlocked: twice)
Security feature
If a door is not opened within approximately 30 seconds after the vehicle is
unlocked, the security feature automatically locks the vehicle again.
Welcome light illumination control
The front position, tail and license plate lights automatically turn on at night
when the doors are unlocked using the entry function or wireless remote con-
trol if the light switch is in the “AUTO” position.

Grip the handle to unlock the
doors.
Make sure to touch the sensor on
the back of the handle.
