Indicates a malfunction in the hybrid system
A buzzer also sounds.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and
contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer,
or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.
Indicates that the traction battery is low
A buzzer also sounds.
When stopping the vehicle for a long period of
time, shift the shift position to P. The battery
cannot be charged with the shift position in N.
Indicates that the vehicle is being driven at 5 km/h
(3 mph) or more with the parking brake still
engaged
A buzzer also sounds.
Release the parking brake.

When trouble arises
Indicates that the P position switch is pressed while
the vehicle is running.
The shift position automatically changed to N.
A buzzer also sounds.
To shift the shift position to P, stop the vehicle
completely and press the P position switch.
To continue driving, shift the shift position to D
or R.
Indicates a malfunction in the P position control
system
In this situation, there is a possibility that the
parking lock mechanism will not work.
When parking, park the vehicle on a flat surface
and apply the parking brake securely. Also, it
may not be possible to turn the power switch off.
If this happens, applying the parking brake will
enable the switch to be turned off.
A buzzer also sounds.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized
Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly quali-
fied and equipped professional.
(If equipped)
Indicates that the radar cruise control sensor is dirty
or covered with ice
A buzzer also sounds.
Clean the sensor.

Stop the vehicle on a hard, flat surface.
Set the parking brake.
Shift the shift position to P.
Stop the hybrid system.
Turn on the emergency flashers. (P. 5 6 0 )
Your vehicle is equipped with a spare tire. The flat tire can be replaced
with the spare tire.

When using the compact spare tire
Remember that the spare tire provided is specifically designed for use with
your vehicle. Do not use your spare tire on another vehicle.
Do not use more than one spare tire simultaneously.
Replace the spare tire with a standard tire as soon as possible.
Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt steering, sudden braking and shifting oper-
ations that cause sudden engine braking.
When the compact spare tire is attached
The vehicle speed may not be correctly detected, and the following systems
may not operate correctly:
Speed limit when using the compact spare tire
Do not drive at speeds in excess of 80 km/h (50 mph) when a compact spare
tire is installed on the vehicle.
The compact spare tire is not designed for driving at high speeds. Failure to
observe this precaution may lead to an accident causing death or serious injury.

When trouble arises
If you have a flat tire (vehicles without a spare tire)
Stop the vehicle in a safe place on a hard, flat surface.
Set the parking brake.
Shift the shift position to P.
Stop the hybrid system.
Turn on the emergency flashers.
Your vehicle is not equipped with a spare tire, but instead is equipped
with an emergency tire puncture repair kit.
A puncture caused by a nail or screw passing through the tire tread can be
repaired temporarily with the emergency tire puncture repair kit.

Before repairing the vehicle

When trouble arises
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (P. 624)
One or both of the 12-volt battery terminals may be disconnected. (P.
504)
Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional if the problem cannot be repaired, or if repair proce-
dures are unknown.
When the hybrid system does not start, the following steps can be used as
an interim measure to start the hybrid system if the power switch is func-
tioning normally. Do not use this starting procedure except in cases of
emergency.
Set the parking brake.
Turn the power switch to ACCESSORY mode.
Press and hold the power switch for about 15 seconds while depressing
the brake pedal firmly.
Even if the hybrid system can be started using the above steps, the system
may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized
Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.
The interior lights and headlights do not turn on, or the horn does
not sound.

When trouble arises
Depress the brake pedal.
Touch the Lexus emblem side of
the electronic key to the power
switch.
If any of the doors is opened or
closed while the key is being
touched to the switch, an alarm will
sound to indicate that the start func-
tion cannot detect the electronic key.
Press the power switch within 10 seconds of the buzzer sounding,
keeping the brake pedal depressed.
In the event that the hybrid system still cannot be operated, contact any
authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
Stopping the hybrid system
Set the parking brake, shift the shift position to P and press the power switch as
you normally do when stopping the hybrid system.
Replacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary measure, it is recommended that the elec-
tronic key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is depleted. (P.
530)
Alarm (if equipped)
Using the mechanical key to lock the doors will not set the alarm system.
If a door is unlocked using the mechanical key when the alarm system is set, the
alarm may be triggered. (P. 9 3 )
Changing power switch modes
Within 10 seconds of the buzzer sounding, release the brake pedal and press the
power switch.
The hybrid system does not start and modes will be changed each time the switch
is pressed. (P. 198)

When trouble arises
If the vehicle becomes stuck
Set the parking brake and shift the shift position to P. Stop the hybrid
system.
Remove the mud, snow or sand from around the stuck tire.
Place wood, stones or some other material under the tires to help pro-
vide traction.
Restart the hybrid system.
Shift the shift position to D or R, release the parking brake and care-
fully apply the accelerator to free the vehicle.
When it is difficult to free the vehicle
Carry out the following procedures if the tires spin or the vehicle
becomes stuck in mud, dirt or snow:
