6. Put trunk floor cover*1against in the
trunk room and store the damaged tire.
7. Close the trunk.
WARNING
. Always make sure that the spare tire and
jacking equipment are properly secured
after use. Such items can become
dangerous projectiles in an accident or
sudden stop.
. The T-type spare tire and small size
spare tire are designed for emergency
use. See specific instructions under the heading
“Wheels and tires” in the“8.
Maintenance and do-it-yourself” section.
If needed, Roadside Assistance is avail-
able. Please see your Warranty Information
Booklet or Roadside Assistance I.D. Card
for the toll-free number to call (U.S.) or
Warranty Information Booklet (Canada). Before attempting to jump start the vehi-
cle, make sure the fuel tank is not empty
and the correct starting procedure is
followed. See
“Starting the INFINITI Direct
Response HybridTMSystem” in the“5.
Starting and driving” section. Do not drive
the vehicle on battery power only if the fuel
tank is empty. The Lithium ion (Li-ion)
battery will become discharged and the
INFINITI Direct Response Hybrid
TMSystem
will turn off.
CONFIRM BATTERY IS DISCHARGED
If any of the following conditions occurs,
the 12-volt battery might discharged:
. The instrument cluster and/or head-
lights are not normal brightness.
. Audio accessories cannot be turned on.
. The hybrid system does not become
ready to drive mode.
. The ignition switch cannot be placed in
the ON position.
Check the following if you notice above
conditions.
1. Check that the 12-volt battery terminals are tight and clean. See “12-volt
battery” in the“8. Maintenance and
do-it-yourself” section. The battery is
located on the left hand side of the
IF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT START
trunk behind an access panel. If the 12-
volt battery terminals are loose, contact
your INFINITI retailer.
2. If the 12-volt battery terminals are tight and clean, try to jump start the vehicle.
See “Jump starting” later in this sec-
tion.
If the hybrid system still does not start,
contact an INFINITI retailer. To start your INFINITI Direct Response
HybridTMSystem with a booster battery,
the instructions and precautions below
must be followed.
Jump starting provides power to the 12 volt
system to allow the electrical systems to
operate. The electrical systems must be
operating to allow the Lithium ion (Li-ion)
battery to be charged. Jump starting does
not charge the Li-ion battery.
WARNING
. If done incorrectly, jump starting can
lead to a 12-volt battery explosion,
resulting in severe injury or death. It
could also damage your vehicle.
. Explosive hydrogen gas is always pre-
sent in the vicinity of the 12-volt battery.
Make sure that the vent tube is
mounted.
. Do not allow battery fluid to come into
contact with eyes, skin, clothing or
painted surfaces. Battery fluid is a
corrosive sulfuric acid solution which
can cause severe burns. If the fluid
should come into contact with anything,
immediately flush the contacted area
with water. .
Keep the 12-volt battery out of the reach
of children.
. The booster battery must be rated at 12
volts. Use of an improperly rated battery
can damage your vehicle.
. Whenever working on or near a 12-volt
battery, always wear suitable eye pro-
tectors (for example, goggles or indus-
trial safety spectacles) and remove
rings, metal bands, or any other jewelry.
Do not lean over the 12-volt battery
when jump starting.
. Do not attempt to jump start a frozen
battery. It could explode and cause
serious injury.
. Your vehicle has an automatic engine
cooling fan. It could come on at any time.
Keep hands and other objects away from
it.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to jump start a hybrid
vehicle as a booster vehicle.
If needed, Roadside Assistance is avail-
able. Please see your Warranty Information
In case of emergency6-9
JUMP STARTING
CAUTION
.Always connect positive (+) to positive
(+) and negative (−) to body ground (as
illustrated) −not to the 12-volt battery.
. Make sure the jumper cables do not
touch moving parts in the engine com-
partment and that clamps do not contact
any other metal.
4. Start the engine of the booster vehicle
*Aand let it run for a few minutes.
5. Start the hybrid system of the vehicle being jump started
*B.
CAUTION
If the hybrid system does not start right
away, push the ignition switch to the OFF
position and wait 10 seconds before trying
again.
6. After starting your vehicle, carefully
disconnect the negative cable and then
the positive cable (
*4?*3?*2?
*1). 7. Put the battery cover and fuse cover on.
NOTE:
If it is not possible to turn the hybrid
system ON by following this procedure,
contact an INFINITI retailer immediately.
Do not attempt to start the engine by
pushing.
CAUTION
.
Automatic transmission models cannot
be push-started or tow-started. Attempt-
ing to do so may cause transmission
damage.
. Three way catalyst equipped models
should not be started by pushing since
the three way catalyst may be damaged.
. Never try to start the vehicle by towing
it; when the engine starts, the forward
surge could cause the vehicle to collide
with the tow vehicle.
. Hybrid models cannot be push-started or
tow-started. Attempting to do so may
cause electrical or transmission damage.
If needed, Roadside Assistance is avail-
able. Please see your Warranty Information
Booklet or Roadside Assistance I.D. Card
for the toll-free number to call (U.S.) or
Warranty & Roadside Assistance Informa-
tion Booklet (Canada).

JUMP STARTING
If jump starting is necessary, see “Jump
starting” in the“6. In case of emergency”
section. If the hybrid system does not start
by jump starting, the 12-volt battery may
have to be replaced. Contact an INFINITI
retailer.WARNING
Be sure the engine and the ignition switch
are off and that the parking brake is
engaged securely.
CAUTION
Be sure to use the correct socket to remove
the spark plugs. An incorrect socket can
damage the spark plugs.
