INSTALLING ELECTRICAL/
ELECTRONIC DEVICESINSTALLING ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC
DEVICES
Electrical and electronic devices installed after buying
the car in the context of after-sales service must
carry the label (see fig. 72).
Fiat S.p.A. authorises the installation of transceivers
provided that installation is carried out at a
specialised centre, in a workmanlike fashion and in
compliance with manufacturer's specifications.
IMPORTANT Traffic police may not allow the car on
the road if devices have been installed which modify
the features of the car. This may also cause
invalidation of warranty in relation to faults caused
by the change either directly or indirectly related
to it.
FIAT S.p.A. shall not be liable for damage caused by
the installation of accessories either not supplied
or recommended by FIAT S.p.A. and not installed in
compliance with the provided instructions.RADIO TRANSMITTERS AND MOBILE
PHONES
Radio transmitter equipment (vehicle mobile phones,
CB radios, amateur radio, etc.) cannot be used
inside the car unless a separate aerial is mounted
externally.
IMPORTANT The use of these devices inside the
passenger compartment (without an external aerial)
may cause the electrical systems to malfunction.
This could compromise the safety of the car in
addition to constituting a potential hazard for
passengers' health.
In addition, transmission and reception of these
devices may be negatively affected by the shielding
effect of the car body. As far as the use of
EC-approved mobile phones is concerned (GSM,
GPRS, UMTS), follow the usage instructions provided
by the mobile phone manufacturer.
WARNING
Before starting any servicing operation,
stop the engine and remove the key
from the ignition switch to operate the
steering lock, particularly when the wheels do
not touch the ground. If this is not possible
(for example if the key needs to be turned to
MAR-ON or the engine must be running),
remove the main fuse that protects the
electric power steering.
TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING
SYSTEM TPMS(Tyre Pressure Monitoring System)
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The car may be fitted with a tyre pressure
monitoring system (TPMS), which informs the
driver of the tyre inflation status via the "Check
tyre pressure" and "Low tyre pressure" messages
on the display. For a detailed description of the two
messages, see "Warning lights and messages"
chapter. This system comprises a radio frequency
transmitter fitted to each wheel (on the wheel rim
inside the tyre), which is able to send information
on the tyre inflation pressure of each wheel to
the control unit.
WARNING
The presence of TPMS does not
exonerate the driver from regularly
checking the pressure of the tyres and the
spare wheel (see "Wheels" in the
"Maintenance and care" chapter).
WARNING
Sensor malfunctioning fault indications are not
stored and will therefore not be displayed after the
engine has been switched off and then on again. If
the fault conditions persist, the control unit will

send the relative indications to the instrument
panel only after the vehicle has been in motion for a
short time.
Tyre pressure must be checked with tyres rested
and cold. Should it become necessary for whatever
reason to check pressure with warm tyres, do
not reduce pressure even though it is higher than
the prescribed value, but repeat the check when
tyres are cold (see "Wheels" in the "Technical data"
chapter).
The TPMS cannot indicate sudden tyre pressure
drops (for example when a tyre bursts). In this
case, stop the car, braking with caution and avoiding
abrupt steering.
Strong radio-frequency interference could inhibit
the correct operation of the TPMS. This condition
is indicated to the driver by the
warning light
or the symbol lighting up on the instrument panel
together with a message on the display. The
message will disappear automatically as soon as the
interference ceases to affect the system.
The TPMS requires the use of specific equipment.
Contact a Fiat Dealership to find out which
accessories are compatible with the system
(wheels, hub caps, etc.). Using other accessories
may hinder the normal operation of the system.
Given the valve unique specifications, only use
Fiat-approved sealers to repair the tyres. The use of
other sealers may affect the normal operation of
the system. If the vehicle is fitted with TPMS, when a tyre is
removed, it is advisable to replace the rubber
gasket for the valve as well as the ring nut fixing the
sensor. Have this operation performed at a Fiat
Dealership.
If the "punctured tyre" indication persists on the
instrument panel after the initial conditions have
been restored using the Fix&Go Automatic tyre
repair kit, contact a Fiat Dealership.
Changes in outside temperature may cause tyre
pressures to vary. The TPMS may temporarily
indicate insufficient pressure. In this case, check the
tyre pressure when cold and, if necessary, restore
the inflation values.
If the vehicle is fitted with TPMS, tyre and/or rims
fitting/removal operations require specific
precautions. To avoid damaging the sensors or
fitting them incorrectly, tyre and/or rims
fitting/removal operations should be carried out
only by specialists. Contact a Fiat Dealership.

warning light will turn on (together with the
message on the display) (see “Tyre pressure low” in
this chapter) and it will stay on until the car slows
down to a speed below the preset threshold.
IMPORTANT In this case slow down immediately
since tyre overheating could impair tyre
performance and life beyond repair, and even make
the tyre to blow-out.
WARNING
Particularly strong radio frequency
interference may cause the TPMS to
function incorrectly.This condition is indicated
to the driver by a message (for versions/
markets where provided).The message will
disappear automatically as soon as the
interference ceases to affect the system.EXTERNAL LIGHT FAILURE
(amber)
This warning light (or symbol on the display)
switches on when a failure is detected in any of the
following lights:
❒side lights
❒brake (stop) lights or corresponding fuse (see the
description provided for this symbol
).❒rear fog lights
❒direction indicators
❒number plate lights.
The failure relating to these lights could be: one or
more blown bulbs, a blown protection fuse or a
break in the electrical connection.
The display will show the dedicated message.
BRAKE LIGHT FAILURE (amber)
The symbol switches on in the display when a
failure is detected in the brake (stop) lights.
The failure relating to these lights could be: one or
more blown bulbs, a blown protection fuse or a
break in the electrical connection.
On certain versions warning light
comes on
instead.
REAR FOG LIGHTS (amber)
The warning light switches on when the rear fog
lights are activated.

USEFUL ADVICE FOR EXTENDING THE
LIFE OF YOUR BATTERY
To avoid draining your battery and make it last
longer, observe the following instructions:
❒when you park the car, ensure that the doors,
tailgate, bonnet and flaps are closed properly,
to prevent any roof lights from remaining on
inside the passenger compartment;
❒switch off all roof lights inside the car: the car is
however equipped with a system which switches
the internal lights off automatically;
❒do not keep accessories (e.g. radio, hazard
warning lights, etc.) switched on for a long time
when the engine is not running;
❒before performing any operation on the electrical
system, disconnect the negative battery pole;
❒completely tighten the battery terminals.IMPORTANT If the charge level remains under 50%
for a long time, the battery is damaged by
sulphation, reducing its capacity and efficiency at
start-up.
The battery will also be more at risk of freezing
(this can happen as early as -10°C). Refer to the
paragraph "Car inactivity" in "Starting and driving" if
the car is left parked for a long time.
If after buying the car, you want to install electric
accessories which require permanent electrical
supply (alarm, etc.) or accessories influencing the
electrical supply requirements, contact a Fiat
Dealership whose qualified personnel, in addition to
suggesting the most suitable devices from
Lineaccessori Fiat, will evaluate the overall electrical
consumption, checking whether the car’s electric
system is capable of withstanding the load required,
or whether it should be integrated with a more
powerful battery.
Since these devices continue to consume energy
even when the engine is off, they gradually run
down the battery.
