Deactivation
In exceptional conditions (starting a vehicle
which is bogged down, stuck in snow, on softground...), it may be advisable to deactivate the ASR and ESP systems, so that the wheels can
move freely and regain grip. )Press the "ESP OFF"button, located on
the left below the steering wheel.
Illumination of the lamp in the button indicates
that the ASR and ESP s
ystems are deactivated.
Reactivation
These systems are reactivated automatically each time the ignition is switched back on or from 30 mph (50 km/h) except 1.6 litre (THP 150, THP 155 and THP 160) and
RACING petrol engines. )
Press the "ESP OFF"
button again to
reactivate them manually.
Operating fault
The ESP/ASR systems offer exceptional safety in normal driving, butthis should not encourage the driver to take extra risks or drive at high speed.
The correct functioning of these systems depends on obser vation of themanufacturer's recommendations on:
- wheels (tyres and rims),
- braking components,
- electronic components,
- assembly and repair procedures.
After an impact, have these systems checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Illumination of this warnin
g lamp in the
instrument panel and the lamp in the
"ESP OFF"button, accompanied b
y
an audible signal and a message in
the multifunction screen, this indicates
a malfunction of these systems.
Have it checked b
y a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Airbags
System designed to maximise the safety of the
occupants (with the exception of the rear centrepassenger) in the event of violent collisions.
The airbags supplement the action of the force-
limitin
g seat belts (with the exception of the centre rear passenger).
If a collision occurs, the electronic detectors record and analyse the front and side impacts sustained in the impact detection zones:
- in the case of a serious impact, the airbagsare deployed instantly and contribute
towards better protection of the occupants
of the vehicle
(with the exception of the rear centre passenger); immediately after theimpact, the airbags deflate rapidly so that
they do not hinder visibility or the exit of the
occupants,
- in the case of a minor or rear impact
or in cer tain roll-over conditions, the
airbags will not be deployed; the seat belt alone contributes towards ensuring your protection in these situations.
The airbags do not operate when theignition is switched off. This equipment will only deploy once.If a second impact occurs (during the same or a subsequent accident), the airbag will not be deployed again.
Impact detection zones
A.Front impact zone.
B.Side impact zone.
Deployment of the airbag(s) is
accompanied by a slight emissionof smoke and a noise, due to the activation of the pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated in the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but sensitive individuals may experience slightirritation.
The noise of the detonation may result in a slight loss of hearing for a shor t time.

Unless other wise indicated, check these components in accordance with the maintenance and warranty guide and according to your engine.
Other wise, have them checked b

The battery does not require any maintenance.
However, check that the terminals are clean
and correctl
y tightened, particularly in summer and winter.
Refer to the maintenance and
warranty guide for details of the replacement intervals for thesecomponents.
Re
place the oil filter each time the
engine oil is changed.
Refer to the maintenance and
warranty guide for details of the
replacement interval for this component. The presence of this label, in particular with
the Stop & Star t s
ystem, indicates the use of a specific 12 V lead-acid battery with special
technology and specification. The involvement
of a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop isessential when replacing or disconnecting the
battery. Th
e start of saturation of thepar ticle filter is indicated by the
temporary illumination of this warning lamp
accompanied by a message in the multi-
function screen.
As soon as the traffic conditions permit,
regenerate the filter by driving at a speed of at
least 40 mph (60 km/h) until the warning lampgoes off.
If the warning lamp stays on, this indicates a
low additive level.
On a new vehicle, the first particlefilter regeneration operations may be accompanied by a "burning" smell, which is perfectly normal.
Following prolonged operation of thevehicle at very low speed or at idle, you may, in exceptional circumstances, notice the emission of water vapour at the exhaust on acceleration. This does not affect the behaviour of the vehicle or the environment. When carr
ying out work on the battery, refer
to the "12 V battery" section for details of theprecautions to be taken before disconnecting
the battery and following its reconnection.
Depending on the environment (e.g. dustyatmosphere) and the use of the vehicle (e.g. citydriving), replace them twice as often if necessar y.y
A clogged passenger compar tment filter may have
an adverse effect on the per formance of the air
conditioning system and generate undesirable odours.

Installing electricalaccessories
Your vehicle's electrical system is designed to operate with standard or optional equipment.
Before installing other electrical equipment or accessories on your vehicle, contact a CITROËN dealer or aqualified workshop.
CITROËN will not accept responsibility for the cost incurred in repairing your
vehicle or for rectifying malfunctions resulting from the installation of accessories not supplied and not recommended by CITROËN andnot installed in accordance with itsinstructions, in par ticular when the combined consumption of all of the additional equipment connectedexceeds 10 milliamperes. The extraction tweezer and the s
pare fusestorage locations are on the back of thedashboard fuse box cover.
For access to them: )open the glove box lid, )unclip the fusebox cover by pulling on the side, )remove the cover completely, )remove the tweezer.
