To open the hood:
1. Pull the hood release lever with this symbol on it. It is located
inside the vehicle below the
instrument panel on the
driver side.
2. Go to the side of the vehicle andpull up on the rear edge of the
hood, near the windshield.
Before closing the hood, be sure all
the filler caps are on properly. Then,
just pull the hood down and close it
firmly.

When to Inspect the Engine Air
Cleaner/Filter
Inspect the air cleaner/filter at the
scheduled maintenance intervals
and replace them at the first oil
change after each 80 000 km
(50,000 mi) interval. See
Maintenance Schedule on
page 11‑3. If driving in dusty/dirty
conditions, inspect the filter at each
engine oil change.
How to Inspect the Engine Air
Cleaner/Filter
To inspect the air cleaner/filter,
remove the filter from the vehicle
and lightly shake the filter to release
loose dust and dirt. If the filter
remains covered with dirt, a new
filter is required.
To inspect or replace the engine air
cleaner/filter:
1. Open the hood. SeeHood on
page 10‑7.

2. Remove the tube (A) from the air cleaner assembly.
3. Loosen the clamp (B) at the throttle body and remove the

A. Mass Air Flow Sensor Connector
B. Connector Lock
4. Remove the connector lock (B) located at the bottom of the
mass air flow sensor
connector (A).
5. Press on the top and bottom of the mass air flow sensor
connector (A) and remove.
