Driver information
system
Introduction
The Driver information display inside the in ­
strument cluster provides you, the driver ,
with important information.

With the igni tion on, the display in the Dr iver
I nformation System shows the fo llow ing in­
formation :
- CD* inserted or Radio* station set
- Outs ide temperature* : At temperatures be-
low 41 °F (+ 5 °C), a snowflake symbol ap­
pears in front of the tempe rature d isplay

- Wa rning: front lid , door or eng ine compart­
ment lid open: The disp lay appea rs if the
door, the eng ine compartmen t lid or front
li d is no t closed.

Some f unctions and vehicle components are
scanned for the ir operating status when you
s witch the ign ition on and whi le you are driv­
ing . Malfunctions or required service proce­
dures are s ignaled audibly and ind icated by
red and yellow illuminated symbols and re­
minders in t he d isplay.
_&. WARNING
-
- Neve r rely ex clusively o n the o utside
tempera ture display to de termine if a
road surface is icy or not. Keep in m ind
that road surfaces, espec ially br idges
and overpasses, co uld be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside temperature
above 41 °F (+ S

-Always remember, even if the "snow­
f lake" symbo l (ice warning) does not ap­
pear in the d isplay, black ice co uld be on
the road .
- Always red uce your speed and d rive with
specia l care in cold weathe r cond itions
when the chance of encoun tering icy
road surfaces i ncreases .
(D Tips
- If the vehicle is stationary, or if you are
dr iving at a very low speed , the tempera­
t u re shown in the d isplay might be
slightly h igher than the actua l o utside
tempe rature. Thi s is caused by the heat
be ing rad iated from t he engine.
- On ve hicles with Audi Nav igation sys­
tem*, the disp lays may differ from their
normal appe aran ce during navig ation.

the calculation of the current trip informa­
t ion. If the trip is interrupted for
more than 2
hours
the memory is reset automatica lly.
Total -trip memory (Trip computer 2)
Unlike the sing le-trip memory, the total-trip
memory is not reset automatically. This per­
mits you to evaluate your dr iving data for the
entire period between manual resets.

Operation
The trip computer is controlled by two
switches on the windshield wiper lever.

Selecting the trip computer
" Tap the I Reset I button @ until the trip com ­
puter (memory level 1 or 2) appears in the

Selecting the functions

Resetting the function to zero
" Push the I Reset ! button ® for at least two
seconds.
You can reset the fo llowing values to zero us­
ing the
I Reset I button :
- driving time - distance
-
average f uel mileage
- average speed
The t rip computer only operates when the ig­
nition is on. When you turn on the ignition,
the function that was in use when you last
turned the ignition off will be displayed .

-You can also set the values for the func­
tions to zero in the menu display

-All stored values will be lost if the vehi­
cle battery is disconnected .
- The driving information in the efficiency
program is a lso reset to zero w ith the
single-trip memory.

Some funct ions in yo ur vehicle can be set , ac­
t ivated, and controlled by
Menus (e.g. Acous­
tic park assist *). With these menus you can al­
so select the information shown in the driver
information system, which operates only with
the ignition switched on. Operation is control­
led by the
! Reset I button and the rocker switch
on the wiper lever

menu and carry out inquiries and selections .

T he engine has reached its operating temper­
ature when the engine oil temperature is be­
tween

der normal driving conditions. The engine o il
temperature may be higher if there is heavy
engine load and high temperatures outside.
This is not a cause for concern as long as the

Com ing home /leaving home function *
The functio n is switched on when the switch is
i n the AU TO* posi tion and the function is
shown as active in the driver information sys­
tem .
The
coming hom e function illuminates the
a rea aro und the veh icle when the ign ition is
switched off and the driver 's door is opened.
The length of time the lights remain on can be
set in the menu display
( Illumin ation > Exte­
rior lights > coming hom e).
The leaving home func tion i llum inates the
area around the vehicle when unlocking it.
A WARNING
- Never use dayt ime running lights to see
where you are going. They are not bright
enough and w ill not let you see far
enough ahead for safety, especially at
dusk or when it is dark . Always switch on
the low beams at dusk or when it is dark.
- Automatic headlights are only intended
to assist the dr ive r. T hey do not relieve
the driver of his responsibility to check
the headlights and to tu rn them on man­
ually acco rding to the c urrent light and
visibili ty cond itions. For example, fog
and rain cannot be detected by the light
sensors . So a lways switch on the head­
lights under these weather cond itions
and when driving in the dark
io .
-Crashes can happen when yo u cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists .
- Always tur n on t he headlights so that
you can see ahead and so that o thers
c a n see yo ur ca r from the ba ck.
- Please obse rve lega l regu lations whe n
us ing the light ing systems descr ibed .

shield in th is area to p revent malfunc ­
tions or fai lures.
- Some exter io r light ing funct ions can be
adjusted in the d river informat ion sys­
tem

- If you remove the ignition from the igni ­
tion lock while the headlights are still
on, a buzzer w ill sound as long as the
dr iver's door is open to rem ind you to
t u rn off the lights.
- Always observe the specific loca l regula ­
tions for your area as to when to use your
lights.
- With automatic headlights, the high­
beam function is also available, but w it h
one restrict ion:
If you have not sw itched
t he high beams back to low beams dur­
ing automatic headlight operation (fo r
example, afte r d riving throug h a tunnel),
only the low be ams come on the next
t ime au tomatic headlights are switched
on. To use the high beams, you firs t have
to pull the high beam lever back and
then push the leve r forward again.
- In coo l or damp weather, the inside of
the headlights, turn signals and tail
lights can fog over due to the tempera­
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They w ill clear shortly after
sw itching them on. This does not affect
the se rv ice life of t he lig hti ng .
Adaptive light
Applies to veh icles: w ith Adaptive light
When driving around bends, the relevant area
of the road is better illuminated .

Headlight washer system

The headlight washer system cleans the
headlights.
., Operate the windshield wiper/washer sys ­
tem

li ghts turned on by holding the lever for lon­
ger than one second.
The washe r jets extend forward o ut of the
front bumper driven by water pressure to
spray the front headlights with water.
You shou ld inspect the headlights regularly
(for example when refue ling) and clean
off
any solid dirt or insects from the lenses .
To ensure the system wo rks properly in winter,
keep the washer jets free o f snow and remove
any ice using a de- ic ing spray.
Service position
It is only possible to change wiper blades if
you move the wiper arms to the service posi ­
tion .
In o rder to use the windsh ie ld w ipers, the
front lid must be comp letely closed .

When you drive faster than
4 mph (6 km/
h), the wiper a rms automatically return to
the pa rk position and cou ld cause paint
damage to the front lid!

- Yo u can also tur n on the se rvice posit ion,
for example, if you want to p rotect the
w indshield from icing by us ing a cover.
- The service posit ion moves to
off auto­
matically whe n you ope rate the w ind­
shield wiper lever, o r speed exceeds
4 mph (6 km/h) .

To store maximum speed

pleted, the illumination for the odometer and

Cruise control
Switching the system on
The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 20 mph (30 km/h) .
