@ Tips
If your vehicle has been standing for an ex­
tended period, please note the follow ing:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the vehicle and a second time to
open the veh icle.
- To prevent the battery from being dis­
charged and to preserve your veh icle's
ability to start for as long as possible,
the energy management system gradu­
ally switches off unnecessary conven­ i ence funct ions. It is possible that you
will not be able to unlock your vehicle us­
i ng these conven ien ce f unctions.

Operating locks with the key
In the event of a failure of the power locking
system, the driver's door can be locked and unlocked at the lock cylinder.

If you lock the vehicle using the power locking
switch, p lease note the following:
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside ( increased security, for ex­
ample when you are stopped at a red light).
- The d iodes in the power locking switches il-
luminate when all the doors are closed and
locked.
- Front doors: you can unlock and open the
doors from the inside by pulling on the door
handle.
- Rear doors: pull the door handle
once to re­
lease the lock. Pull the handle
again to open
the door.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat­
ed the doors automatically unlock .

A WARNING
-The power lock ing switch works with the
ig nit ion off and automat ica lly locks the
enti re veh icle when it is actuated.

-When you leave your veh icle -even if on­
ly briefly -always take the ignition key
with you . This applies partic ularly when
children remain in the vehicle . Otherwise
the ch ildren could start the engine or op­
erate electrical equ ipment (e.g. power
windows). The power windows are func­
t ional until the driver's door or passeng ­
er's door has been opened .
- Be careful when closing the wi ndows .
Check to see that no one is in the way, or
serious injury could result!
- When locking the veh icle from outs ide,
the vehicle must be unoccu pied s ince the
windows ca n no longer be opened i n an
eme rgency .
(0 Tips
- When you ope n the doors, the w indows
a utomat ica lly low er about 10 mm .
- When the window in the dr iver's or pas­
senger's door is completely open, it will
r aise approximate ly 25 mm when the
door is opened. The w indow will lower
again w hen you close the doo r.
- After the ignition has been switched off,
t h e windows can still be opened o r
closed for abou t 10 minu tes. The powe r
windows are not swi tched off un til the
drive r's door or passenge r's door has
been opened .
What to do after a malfunction
The one-touch open and close function must
be reactivated if the battery hos been discon ­
nected.
.. Pull and hold the power w indow switch un ­
t il the window is fully closed .
.. Re lease the switch and then p ull it again for
at least one second .

Valet parking
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage compor tment from unauthori zed access
from the outside.

A WARNING

The sockets and the electrica l accessories
connected to them operate only when the
ign ition is switched on. Incorrect usage
can lead to serious injuries or burns. To re­
duce the risk of injuries, never leave chil ­
dren unattended in the vehicle with the ve­
hicle key.
{CT) Note
To avoid damag ing the socket, only use
plugs that fit properly .
- Never connect equipment that generates
electrical current, such as a so lar panel
or battery charger, to the 12-volt socket.
This could damage the vehicle's e lectr i­
ca l system .
- The 12-volt socket should only be used
fo r a short period of time as a power
sour ce for e lectr ica l equipment. P lease
u se the elect rical so ckets in the veh icle
when connec ting equipment for longer
periods.
- To avoid damaging the socket, only use
pl ugs that fit properly.
@ Tips
When the eng ine is off and accessor ies are
still plugged in and are on, the vehicle bat­
t ery can still be dra ined .

After a cold engine is started, the re may be a
brief period of increased noise because oil
pressure must first bu ild up in the hydraulic
va lve adjusters. This is normal and not a cause
f or concern.
If the engine should not start immediately,
the starting process is automatically stopped
after a short time . Repeat starting procedure.
Start-Stop-S ystem *:
When you stop and the Start-Stop-System*
turns
off the engine, the ignition still remains
switched on.
- If you press the I STAR T ENGINE STOPI but­
ton now, the ignition wi ll be switched
off.

-Make sure tha t th e ig nit ion is swi tched off
before ex iting the vehicle.
Sw itching the ignition /engine off

The fo llow ing applies to vehicles with Start­
Stop -System*: to prevent the battery from
draining, the ignition and the engine wi ll
switch
off automatically under the following
conditions :
- T he vehicle has already been dr iven.
- T he d river's door is opened.
- T he driver's seat be lt is removed.
- The brake pedal is not pressed down .
- The veh icle is sta tionary.
In t his case, the activated low beam w ill be re­
p laced by the side marker lights. The side
marker lights will switch
off after a certain pe­
riod of time or when you lock the vehicle.

This message appears i f you press the

gine and do not depress the brake peda l. The engine can only be started if the brake pedal
is depressed.

bol if the master key is removed from the ve ­
hicle with the eng ine runn ing.

If the master key is no longe r in t he ve hicl e,
yo u canno t swi tch on the igni tion after stop­
ping the engine and you also cannot start the
engine again. Moreover, you cannot lock the
vehicle from the outside with the key.

This message appears if the drive r's door is
opened wh ile the ign ition is switched on. Al­
ways swi tch
off the ignit io n if you a re leav ing

Electromechanical
parking brake
Operation
The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake.

pedal and press the switch

Your vehicle is equipped with an electrome ­
chanical parking brake . The parking brake is
designed to prevent the vehicle from rolling
unintentionally and replaces the hand brake .
In addition to the normal functions of a tradi ­
tional hand brake, the electromechanical
parking brake provides various convenience
and safety functions .
When starting from rest
-The integral starting assist helps you when
driving by automatically releasing the park ­
ing brake

-When starting on inclines, the starting as ­
sist prevents the vehicle from unintentional­
ly rolling back. The braking force of the
park ing brake is not released until sufficient
driving force has been built up at the
wheels. .,,_

When you stop and the start-stop-system
turns the engine off, the ignition remains
on. Make sure that the ignition is switched
off before exiting the vehicle.
General information
Applies to vehicles: with S tart-Stop -System
The standard Start-Stop-mode can be cancel­
led for different system-related reasons .

Engine will not switch off
Before each stop phase, the system checks if
certain conditions have been met. For exam ­
p le, the engine will
not be switched off in the
following situations:
- The engine has not reached the minimum
r equired temperature for Start-Stop -mode .
- T he interior temperature selected by the A/C
system has not been reached .
- T he outs ide temperature is extremely h igh/
low .
- T he w indshield is being defrosted

- The pa rking system* is switched on.
- The battery charge level is too low .
- The steering wheel is sharply turned or there is a steering movement.
- After engaging the reverse gear.
- On sharp inclines .
The

Engine automatically restarts
The stop phase is interrupted in the following
situations, for example. The engine restarts
without any action by the driver.
- The inte rior temperature varies from the
temperature selected in the A/C system.
- The windsh ield is being defrosted

-The brake pedal is pressed severa l times in a
row.
- The battery charge level becomes too low .
- High power consumption .
@ Tips
If you shift into the D, Nor S posit ions af­
ter shifting into reverse, the vehicle must
be driven faster than 6 mph (10 km/h) in
o rd er for the engine to switch off aga in.
Switching the Start-Stop-System on/off
manually
Appl ies to vehicles : wi th Start-S top-Sys te m
If you do not wish to use the system, you can
switch it off manually.

Driver messages
App lies to vehicles: with side assist
If side assist switches off by itself, the LED in
the button turns off and a message will ap­
pear in the instrument cluster display:
Audi side assist: Currently unavailable. No
sensor vision
The radar sensors' vision is affected. Do not
cover the area in front of the sensors with bike
wheels, stickers, dirt or other objects. Clean
the area in front of the sensors, if necessary
c>fig. 104 .
Audi side assist: Currently unavailable
Side assist cannot be switched on temporarily
because there is a malfunction (for example,
the battery charge level may be too low).
Audi side assist: System fault!
The system cannot guarantee that it will de ­
tect vehicles correctly and it is switched off .
The sensors have been displaced or are faulty.
Have the system checked by an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility
soon.
Audi side assist: Unavailable when towing.
Side assist switches off automatically when a
factory-installed trailer hitch is connected to
the electrical connector on the trailer. There is
no guarantee the system will switch off when
using a retrofitted trailer hitch. Do not use
side assist when towing a trailer.

authorized Audi dealer or qualified repair fa­
cility immediately to have the malfunction
corrected.

and shift to P
Do not continue driving. Select the P selector
l eve r position and see your autho rized Aud i
dealer or qualified repair facility for assis­
tance.

If the transmission switches to emergency
mode, you should take the vehicle to an
authorized Audi dealership as soon as pos­
sible to have the cond ition corrected.
Selector lever emergency release
Applies to vehicles: with S tro nic/t iptronic
If the vehicle's power supply fails, the selec­
tor lever can be released in an emergency.

~ You now have access to a bolt. Using a
screwdriver or simi lar, press the bolt down
and hold it down.
~ Now press the interlock and move the selec-
tor lever to the N pos ition.
The selector lever can only be moved from the P posit ion if the ignition is turned on . If the
veh icle has to be pushed or towed if the power
supply fails (e.g . battery is discharged), the

position using the emergency locking device.
