Current information about the vehicle can be viewed
through a computer or your Volkswagen Car-Net iPh-
one® or Android® app (text and data rates apply). You
can find out if the doors, luggage compartment and
engine hood are open or closed, whether the car lights
are on or off, the level of fuel in the tank, when the
vehicle needs to be serviced next and more.

Press the • button in the 3-button module: The vehi-
cle will initiate a call to the Volkswagen Car-Net Re-
sponse Center where a Volkswagen Car-Net Custom-
er Specialist will connect you with an authorized
Volkswagen dealer to schedule your service appoint-
ment. The address of the dealer’s location can also be
sent by the Customer Specialist to your factory-
installed navigation system (if equipped).

View a vehicle health report to proactively manage
maintenance and other services and to receive up-to-
date diagnostics in a monthly email report or by im-
mediate request.

variety of purposes and be specific to your vehicle and country ⇒ .
The content, range of software provided and application software
provider can vary. Some application software is also subject to the
availability of services provided by third parties. In order for some
application software to work, wireless service reception must be
strong enough to handle the data exchange involved (text and data
rates apply).
Application software descriptions may be provided by the service pro-
vider.
Due to the multitude of mobile devices and fast pace of software de-
velopment, the application software provided may not run on all mo-
bile devices and their operating systems. This may even apply for the
same model of a mobile device. For example, application software
may run on version 2 of the device's operating system but not on ver-
sion 3.
Application software can be modified, discontinued, deactivated, re-
activated or expanded without any further notice.
In order for some application software to work, the wireless or cable
connection between the factory-installed Radio or Navigation system
and a compatible, functioning mobile device must be strong enough
and uninterrupted.

Volkswagen is not responsible for vehicle damage caused by
inferior-quality or malicious application software, poorly pro-
grammed application software, insufficient wireless service re-
ception, data loss during transmission or misuse of mobile de-
vices.

(3) Sensor for recognizing entry of light
The auto-dimming feature can be switched on and off with the switch
on the inside mirror (2) A or (2) B. When auto-dimming is activated,
the indicator light (1) is on.
If the ignition is switched on, the sensor (3) automatically darkens the
inside mirror depending on the amount of light shining into the vehicle
from the rear.
The auto-dimming feature is deactivated when you shift the transmis-
sion into reverse or switch on the interior lights or the reading light.
Do not attach external navigation devices to the windshield or in the
vicinity of the auto-dimming inside mirror ⇒ .
WARNING
The illuminated display on an external navigation device can
cause the auto-dimming inside mirror to malfunction, which
can result in crashes and serious injuries.
Malfunctions in the auto-dimming function can result in the
inside mirror being unable to evaluate the exact distance of ve-
hicles in the rear or other objects.
If the light striking the sensor is filtered or blocked (such as by a
sunshade), the auto-dimming inside mirror will not work properly or
may not work at all.

When a turn signal is set, unnecessary lines and areas are hidden.
Orientation lines overview
Meaning of the orientation lines and areas projected on screen
⇒ fig. 155. All distances of the orientation lines refer to a vehicle on a
level surface.
(1) Red: Safety distance. Area up to about 16 inches (40 cm) behind
the vehicle on the road.
(2) Vehicle's width limits.
(3) Point to change steering angle.
When the yellow line touches the curb or any other parking
space boundary, the steering wheel must be turned in the oppo-
site direction (close-up view).
(4) The area parallel to the vehicle that is needed for parking. The
area shown must fit completely into the parking space.
(5) Parked vehicle at the curb.
Parking
Position the vehicle about 3 feet (1 meter) away from and parallel
to the parking space and shift into Reverse.
On the screen of the navigation system, activate Mode 2 for paral-
lel parking.
Back up slowly and steer the vehicle so that the yellow surface on
the screen is flush with the side boundary of the parking space (such
as the curb) and stops short of any obstacle (5), such as another ve-
hicle.
Turn the steering wheel as far as it will go into the direction of the
parking space and slowly back up.
Once the yellow line (3) touches the side of the parking space, for
example, a marking or the curb (close-up view), turn the steering
wheel as far as it will go in the opposite direction.
Continue backing up until the vehicles is positioned in the parking
space parallel to the road. If necessary, correct the parking position.
It may take up to 5 seconds for the area detected by the sensors
to be displayed on the factory-installed radio or navigation system
screen.

The indicator light in the button  ⇒ fig. 157 comes on and stays on
as long as the feature is active.
A chime sounds to tell you that the system is on. If the chime does
not sound, PDC is not working. Have the system inspected by an
authorized Volkswagen dealer or an authorized Volkswagen Service
Facility.
Special considerations when using Park Distance Control
In some cases, the Park Distance Control interprets water and ice
on the sensors as an obstacle.
If the distance remains the same, the warning tone volume de-
creases after a few seconds. If a continuous tone sounds, its volume
remains the same.
If the vehicle moves away from the obstacle, the beeping sound
stops automatically. The beep turns on again automatically if the ve-
hicle approaches the obstacle again.
For vehicles with automatic transmissions, there is no beeping
when the transmission is in Park (P) and the electronic parking brake
is engaged.
The volume of the audible signals can be adjusted by an author-
ized Volkswagen dealer or an authorized Volkswagen Service Facili-
ty.
Muting the Park Distance Control volume
You can mute the PDC beeping signals by tapping the  function
key on the Radio or Navigation system screen (if applicable). Tap the
function key again to reactivate the acoustic signals.
Switching Park Distance Control back on after it was switched off re-
activates the volume. System malfunction warning signals cannot be
switched off.
If you manually deactivate the display, PDC remains on and the
sound is reactivated.

Facility. Authorized Volkswagen dealers and authorized
Volkswagen Service Facilities have the required tools, diagnos-
tic equipment, repair information, and trained personnel to
properly replace any airbag in your vehicle and assure system
effectiveness in a crash.
Only install parts on the vehicle that are consistent with fac-
tory-installed parts with respect to design and characteristics.
Never store, mount, or attach objects, such as cup holders or
phone cradles, on or next to the airbag module covers or within
the airbags deployment zones.
Only use wheel rim/tire combinations approved by
Volkswagen for the respective vehicle type.

Therefore we strongly recommend that you use your mobile tele-
phone in your vehicle only when it is properly attached to an appro-
priate cradle mounted on a base plate on the instrument panel.
Because of the large number and variety of mobile telephones on the
market and the frequency with which new models are introduced,
Volkswagen does not offer cradles for mobile telephones. Please
check with the manufacturer of the mobile telephone that you plan to
use.

WARNING
A mobile phone on the seat, instrument panel or in other places
can be thrown around the inside of the vehicle during a sudden
braking maneuver, a crash or other accident and injure vehicle
occupants.
Never place or attach accessories or other objects (such as
cup holders, telephone brackets, note pads, navigation sys-
tems, large, heavy or bulky objects) on the doors, on the wind-
shield, over or near the area marked “AIRBAG” on the steering
wheel, instrument panel, backrests or between these areas and
the occupant. Such objects could cause serious injury in a col-
lision, especially if an airbag inflates.
