Have the vehicle inspected immediately.
Failure to investigate the cause of the following warnings may lead to
the system operating abnormally and possibly cause an accident.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional immedi-
ately.
To prevent the clutch from overheating
Do not use the accelerator pedal or starting assist system to hold the
vehicle on a hill.
On an uphill incline, observe the following whenever possible:
• Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and avoid unneces-
sary starting off and stopping.
• Avoid using E mode on an uphill slope. This will help to avoid unneces-
sary gear changes.

• The hybrid system (hybrid vehicle);
• The hybrid transmission control system (if equipped);

A buzzer will sound if the vehicle reaches a speed of 5 km/h (3 mph) or
more with any door open.

2: Driver’s and passengers seat belt reminders:
The driver’s and passengers seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the driver and
passengers that their seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer sounds for 30
seconds after the vehicle has reached a speed of at least 20 km/h (12 mph).
Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer will sound in a different
tone for 90 more seconds.

3: The DPF system warning light may not turn off when the engine oil change
reminder light is on. In this event, have the vehicle inspected by any autho-
rized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped pro-
fessional.

Passenger detection sensor and passenger seat belt reminder
If luggage is placed on a passenger seat, the passenger detection sensor
may cause the warning light to flash even if a passenger is not sitting in
the seat.
If a cushion is placed on the seat, the sensor may not detect a passen-
ger, and the warning light may not operate properly.
Electric power steering warning light (warning buzzer)
Except hybrid vehicle: When the battery charge becomes insufficient or the
voltage temporarily drops, the electric power steering system warning light
may come on and the warning buzzer may sound.
Hybrid vehicle: When the 12-volt battery charge becomes insufficient or the
voltage temporarily drops, the electric power steering system warning light
may come on and the warning buzzer may sound.
If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
For some models, the malfunction indicator lamp will come on if the fuel tank
becomes completely empty. If the fuel tank is empty, refuel the vehicle
immediately. The malfunction indicator lamp will go off after several trips.
If the malfunction indicator lamp does not go off, contact any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional as soon as possible.
If the engine oil change reminder light flashes (diesel engine with a
DPF system)
Repeated short trips and/or low-speed driving may cause the oil to degrade
sooner than usual, regardless of the actual distance driven. If this happens,
the engine oil change reminder light will flash.
Engine oil change reminder light comes on (diesel engine only)
Vehicles without a DPF system:
Replace the engine oil and oil filter when the engine oil change reminder
light does not come on even if you have driven over 40000 km (25000 miles)
after the engine oil was changed.
There is a possibility that the engine oil change reminder light has been illu-
minated when you have driven less than 40000 km (25000 miles) based on
a usage or driving condition.

When connecting the jumper cables, ensure that they do not become entan-
gled in the cooling fan or belt.

Overheating
If you observe the following, your vehicle may be overheating:
The high engine coolant temperature warning light flashes or comes on
or a loss of power is experienced.
Steam comes out from under the hood.
CAUTION
To prevent an accident or injury when inspecting under the hood of
your vehicle
If steam is seen coming from under the hood, do not open the hood until
the steam has subsided. The engine compartment may be very hot, caus-
ing serious injuries such as burns.
Keep hands and clothing away from the fan and drive belt while the engine
is running.
Do not loosen the radiator cap, or the coolant reservoir cap while the
engine and radiator are hot.
Serious injury, such as burns, may result from hot coolant and steam
released under pressure.
Diesel engine
Have the vehicle inspected at the nearest authorized Toyota dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional as
soon as possible.

Overheating
The following symptoms may occur when your vehicle is overheating:
Hybrid system output decreases.
Steam comes out from the engine area.
CAUTION
To prevent an accident or injury when inspecting under the hood of
your vehicle
If steam is seen coming from under the hood, do not open the hood until
the steam has subsided. The engine compartment may be very hot, caus-
ing serious injuries such as burns.
Check that the “READY” indicator is off.
For vehicles with a hybrid system, there are times when the gasoline
engine automatically starts to run or the cooling fan suddenly start to oper-
ate. Do not touch or approach the rotating parts of the belt or fan. Doing so
may lead to fingers, clothes or tools getting caught, resulting in injury.
Do not loosen the coolant reservoir cap while the hybrid system and radia-
tor are hot.
Serious injuries, such as burns, may result from hot coolant and steam
released under pressure.
