Except hybrid model (vehicles without a smart entry & start sys-
tem): Close all the doors and windows, and turn the engine switch
off.
Except hybrid model (vehicles with a smart entry & start system):
Close all the doors and windows, and turn the engine switch off.
Hybrid model: Close all the doors and windows, and turn the power
switch off.
Confirm the type of fuel.
Fuel types
Gasoline engine
EU area:
Unleaded gasoline confirming to European standard EN228, Research
Octane Number of 95 or higher
Except EU area:
Unleaded gasoline, Research Octane Number of 95 or higher
Diesel engine
EU area:
Diesel fuel conforming to European standard EN590
Except EU area:
Diesel fuel that contains 50 ppm or less of sulfur and has a cetane number
of 48 or higher
Use of ethanol blended gasoline in a gasoline engine
Toyota allows the use of ethanol blended gasoline where the ethanol content
is up to 10%. Make sure that the ethanol blended gasoline to be used has a
Research Octane Number that follows the above.
Opening the fuel tank cap
Perform the following steps to open the fuel tank cap:

Do not use engine oil other than the recommended type
Do not modify the exhaust pipe

6667-2. Steps to take in an emergency

One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
The electronic key may not be functioning properly. (P. 672)
There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle.
There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system. (P. 9 9 )
There may be malfunction in the P position control system.

The hybrid system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical prob-
lem such as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. How-
ever, depending on the type of malfunction, an interim measure is
available to start the hybrid system. (P. 667)
*: It may not be possible to shift the shift position from P to another position.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (P. 674)
The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
If the hybrid system will not star t (hybrid
model)
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on
the situation. Check the following and perform the appropriate
procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting
procedure is being followed. (P. 268)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not
sound or sounds at a low volume.

Please be aware that depending on the particular characteristics of the gear
oil used or the operating conditions, idle sound, shift feeling and/or fuel effi-
ciency may be different or affected. Toyota recommends to use “TOYOTA
Genuine Manual Transmission Gear Oil LV” to achieve optimal perfor-
mance.
