To prevent the clutch from overheating
Observe the following while driving.
Do not keep driving up a hill at low speeds.
Do not start off and stop repeatedly on an uphill.
Do not use the accelerator pedal or starting assist system to hold the vehicle
on a hill.
Failure to investigate the cause of the following warnings may lead to
the system operating abnormally and possibly cause an accident.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional immedi-
ately.

The driver’s and passengers seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the driver and
passengers that his or her seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer sounds for
30 seconds after the vehicle reaches a speed of at least 20 km/h (12 mph).
Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer will sound in a different
tone for 90 more seconds.
*4: The DPF system warning may not turn off when the engine oil change
reminder is on. In this event, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.

Front passenger detection sensor, seat belt reminder and warning
buzzer
If luggage is placed on the front passenger seat, the front passenger detec-
tion sensor may cause the warning light to flash and the warning buzzer to
sound even if a passenger is not sitting in the seat.
If a cushion is placed on the seat, the sensor may not detect a passenger,
and the warning light may not operate properly.
If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
The malfunction indicator lamp will come on if the fuel tank becomes com-
pletely empty. If the fuel tank is empty, refuel the vehicle immediately. The
malfunction indicator lamp will go off after several trips.
If the malfunction indicator lamp does not go off, contact any authorized Toy-
ota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional as
soon as possible.
Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer may not be heard because of noisy place or an
audio sound.
If the engine oil change reminder is on (if equipped)
Repeated short time trips and/or low-speed driving may cause the oil to
degrade sooner than usual, regardless of the actual distance driven. If this
happens, the engine oil change reminder will come on.

CAUTION
12-volt battery precautions
The 12-volt battery contains poisonous and corrosive acidic electrolyte,
while related parts contain lead and lead compounds. Observe the following
precautions when handling the 12-volt battery:
When working with the 12-volt battery, always wear safety glasses and
take care not to allow any 12-volt battery fluids (acid) to come into contact
with skin, clothing or the vehicle body.
Do not lean over the 12-volt battery.
In the event that 12-volt battery fluid comes into contact with the skin or
eyes, immediately wash the affected area with water and seek medical
attention.
Place a wet sponge or cloth over the affected area until medical attention
can be received.
Always wash your hands after handling the battery support, terminals, and
other 12-volt battery-related parts.
Do not allow children near the 12-volt battery.
NOTICE
When handling jumper cables
When connecting the jumper cables, ensure that they do not become entan-
gled in the cooling fans or engine drive belt.

Overheating
If you observe the following, your vehicle may be overheating:
The high engine coolant temperature is shown on the multi-information dis-
play or a loss of power is experienced.
“Hybrid System Overheat” is shown on the multi-information display.
Steam comes out from under the hood.
CAUTION
When inspecting under the hood of your vehicle
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in serious injury such as burns.
If steam is seen coming from under the hood, do not open the hood until
the steam has subsided. The engine compartment may be very hot.
Keep hands and clothing away from the fans, etc. while the hybrid system
is operating.
For vehicles with a hybrid system, there are times when the gasoline
engine automatically starts to run or the cooling fans suddenly start to
operate. Do not touch or approach the rotating parts of the belt or fans.
Doing so may lead to fingers, clothes or tools getting caught, resulting in
injury.
Do not loosen the coolant reservoir caps while the hybrid system and radi-
ator are hot.
High temperature steam or coolant could spray out.
NOTICE
When adding engine/power control unit coolant
Add coolant slowly after the hybrid system has cooled down sufficiently.
Adding cool coolant to a hot hybrid system too quickly can cause damage to
the hybrid system.
To prevent damage to the cooling system
Observe the following precautions:
Avoid contaminating the coolant with foreign matter (such as sand or dust
etc.).
Do not use commercially available coolant additives.
