Representation of maps on the navigation system display
A comprehensive route will be shown graphically on a map on
the display.– Press the Map control button ⇒page 123 from the navigation
menu. The route will be displayed on a map ⇒fig. 117 .In addition to the route guidance, you can also display detailed information
about your route on the map. Settings can be entered directly on the map
⇒page 124 and in Navigation Setup ⇒page 131 to display the map.
If you are navigating without stopovers, you can select from up to three routes
⇒ page 113. Detailed route information is also available.
If you are navigating with stopovers, you are shown the entire route with all
stopovers and detailed route information in an overview ⇒page 114.
You can also use the map as presented in the navigation system display to
enter a destination ⇒ page 111.
Route guidance on the instrument panel display*After you have entered a route and begun navigating, guidance to your desti-
nation will also be shown on the instrument panel display
(⇒ fig. 118/ ⇒fig. 119 ).

102If you are approaching a turn-off, an arrow will indicate the direction of the
turn-off. The name of the street onto which you must turn-off will also appear
under the arrow. The bar graph (countdown) ⇒page 101, fig. 119 on the
right in the display corresponds to the distance up to the turn-off.
If a change of lanes (e.g. on the motorway) is necessary before the turn-off,
you will be informed accordingly beforehand ⇒page 99, fig. 116 . Route guidance on the instrument panel display remains visible during navi-
gation even when you have selected other functions (e.g. radio).
Note
To switch from the route guidance display to the on-board computer* display,
press the Reset* button for the on-board computer. Press the Reset* button
repeatedly to return to the route guidance screen. For detailed information
regarding the on-board computer*, please refer to your Owner's Manual.Switching on the navigation system
The navigation functions can be selected with the func-
tion button.– Press the function button ⇒
page 9. The main navigation
menu ⇒fig. 120 , the route plan ⇒ page 120, fig. 143 or the
previous active navigation function menu will appear on the
display.
– Press one of the control buttons ⇒page 9 ( to ⇒ fig. 120)
to move to the appropriate submenus.
Display
DescriptionRemaining distance to next turn-off.Indication of whether TMC radio stations are being received
and whether the dynamic navigation function is switched
on or off ⇒page 146.Estimated time of arrival at destination or stopover.Motorway, major road and street names displayed accord-
ing to the vehicle location.
A turn-off arrow ahead of these names indicates the road
onto which you should turn-off.Total miles to destination or stopover.Directional arrowBar graph (countdown): the bars decrease in size to indi-
cate how the distance to the immediate turn-off point is
decreasing. The bar graph is not shown until a change of
direction arrow is displayed.If there is another side street before the turn-off point that
is not part of current guidance, this side street is repre-
sented by a side-street symbol on the instrument panel dis-
play. The side-street symbol will disappear as soon as there
are no more before the turn-off point.

– Enter all required information fo r the route guidance. To do so,
you can use any of the various options described on
⇒ page 104.
–Select Start route guidance ⇒ page 112, fig. 132 ; the route will
be calculated and the map will be automatically displayed.
– Using the rotary pushbutton, select one of the available routes shown on the map (applies only to route without stopover)
⇒page 113, or
– Press the rotary pushbutton to select the suggested route on the map ⇒page 114.After the route has been calculated the navigation system will automatically
switch to the map display mode. Route guidance is shown in simplified form
on the instrument panel display ⇒page 101. You will also receive spoken
navigation information ⇒page 100.
When you have entered a single destination ⇒page 104 and started route
guidance, you will be offered up to three different routes to reach your desti-
nation ⇒page 113.
Once you have entered a route plan and started route guidance an overview
map will be displayed showing all stopovers and various information
regarding the route ⇒ page 114.
Entered destinations can be saved ⇒page 117 and ⇒page 118.
Route criteria ⇒page 121 can be changed at any time during guidance and
the route will be recalculated.
If you start a route guidance, but do not complete it, this guidance will be
continued automatically when you start driving again. This also applies to
entered destinations that were not reached due to unexpected circumstances
(e.g. change of plans). To end route guidance, select Stop route guidance
⇒ page 115.
Note
Calculated destinations can also be changed on the map display by moving
the cursor ⇒page 129.Single destination navigation: Information before route guidanceOnce you have entered the destination ⇒page 104 you will be
offered up to three alternative routes ⇒fig. 133 .
– Select one of the possible routes by turning the rotary push- button.
– Press the rotary pushbutton to start the route guidance for the selected route.When you select a route by rotating the control knob, you are shown different
information about this route. The information pertaining to the selected route
is highlighted in white.

Avoiding route sectionsThis function is available once you start travelling on a calculated
route.
– Press the Route control button in the navigation menu.
–Select Avoid route from here ⇒ page 120, fig. 142 .
– Turn the control knob to select the appropriate section on the current route.
– Confirm the section to be avoided by pressing the control knob.The navigation system will attempt to calculate an alternative route plan for
the section you want to avoid.
If you stop and then restart the route guidance, it will be necessary to re-enter
the route section to avoid.
Note
•If the function Avoid route from here is greyed out and the navigation
system is not able to offer an alternative route, this indicates that there is no
suitable detour.•If you do not follow the calculated route or if you leave the route, the
system will automatically calculate a new route plan based on your current
location.
Map control buttonIntroduction
There are various displays for maps and information with
different options possible.Map representation:•Map and information representation during route guidance with inactive
side menu ⇒ page 124•Map representation with active side menu ⇒ page 125Note
•If the route or sections of the route are highlighted in a light blue colour
⇒ fig. 146 in the map display, this indicates that information regarding
this road or route section may be incomplete. For example, it could be a one-
way street or a pedestrian zone, etc. Take the signs found on the route into
account and respect traffic regulations.•You will see directional arrows in the instrument panel display
⇒ page 101 or ⇒page 101 which inform you of the route guidance
directions.

The map display modes can be changed ⇒page 131.
Traffic jam announcements are shown automatically, showing the traffic jam
symbol on the map and marking the roads affected. If the dynamic navigation
⇒ page 121 is activated, the route will, if possible, be recalculated in order
to avoid the traffic jam.
You can select a destination directly from the map using the cursor
⇒ page 128.
You will see directional arrows in the instrument panel display ⇒page 101
which inform you of the route guidance directions.
The degrees of latitude and longitude ⇒page 125, fig. 149 and the current
altitude of the vehicle are shown when the map is displayed with the side
menu activated.
Note
A tunnel or underpass is displayed on the map as a broken line up to a scale
of 750 m.

138If you have activated the Auto intersection zoom and have set the
Destination , Location or Location 3D map type ⇒page 133, the map will
automatically zoom in at intersections. This provides a better view of the road
layout.
If you activate the Auto intersection zoom function, the Intersection map
function will be deactivated automatically. These two functions are mutually
exclusive.Co mp ass
–Press the ⇒ page 9 function button in the navigation
menu.
– Highlight Compass with a check mark
⇒ fig. 172 to activate
the function.
When the route guidance is not activated, the compass will indicate the direc-
tion of travel in the instrument panel display ⇒fig. 173. If the current

Memo TP control buttonListening to stored traffic announcementsIf the traffic information function ( ⇒page 42) is activated, reports
will be received and stored for about two hours even after switching
off the navigation system. You can call up these reports as desired:
– In the traffic information menu, select the Memo TP function
using the corresponding control button. The most up-to-date
traffic announcement will then automatically be played.
– Select one of the available traffic announcements by rotating and pressing the control knob ⇒fig. 186 .
– To cancel a running traffic repo rt, press the rotary pushbutton
again or press the ⇒page 9 button.Stored announcements are displayed with the station name and the time of
the announcement. The most up-to-date traffic announcement is shown at
the top of the list.

Settings control buttonSetting the menu language
Display texts can be shown in different languages.–Press the Settings control button in the Setup menu.
– Select Menu language ⇒fig. 194 .
– Select the desired menu language.The display texts for the navigation system and the instrument panel display
will appear in the language you have selected. The language for the audible
navigation commands are also changed.
