Assistance menu
Introduction
In the DriveAssist. menu you can:
R show the distance display

Showing the distance display
This function is only available with
DISTRONIC PLUS.
XPress the = or ; button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssist
menu.XPress the 9 or : button to select
Distance Display .XPress a.
The DISTRONIC PLUS distance display
( Y page 172) appears in the multifunction
display.Deactivating/activating ESP ®GWARNING
Never switch off the ESP when you see the
ESP warning lamp ä flashing in the
instrument cluster. In this case proceed as
follows:
R When driving off, apply as little throttle as
possible.
R While driving, ease up on the accelerator
pedal.
R Adapt your speed and driving style to the
prevailing road conditions.
Failure to observe these guidelines could
cause the vehicle to skid. The ESP cannot
prevent accidents resulting from excessive
speed.

The å warning lamp in the instrument
cluster comes on.GWARNING
When the å ESP OFF warning lamp lights
up, ESP is switched off.
When the ä ESP warning lamp and the
å ESP OFF warning lamp are on
continuously, ESP is not operational due to a
malfunction.
When ESP is switched off or not operational,
the vehicle's stability during standard driving
maneuvers is reduced.
Adapt your driving style to suit the prevailing
road conditions/weather conditions and to
the non-operating status of ESP.

PRE-SAFE ®
Brake is only available in vehicles
with DISTRONIC PLUS.

When PRE-SAFE ®
Brake ( Y page 65) is
activated, the multifunction display shows
the Ä symbol as long as the HOLD
function is not activated ( Y page 176).
Vehicles with Parking Guidance: if
PARKTRONIC is activated and you are driving
at a speed under 22 mph (35 km/h) the j
symbol for Parking Guidance is displayed
instead of the Ä symbol.

Activating/deactivating Blind Spot
Assist
You can use the Blind Spot Asst. function
to activate or deactivate Blind Spot Assist
( Y page 186) or Active Blind Spot Assist
( Y page 189).

If the function is activated, the monitored
areas are shown in red in the multifunction

Activating/deactivating Lane Keeping
Assist
You can use the Lane Keep. Asst. function
to activate/deactivate Lane Keeping Assist
( Y page 188) or Active Lane Keeping Assist
( Y page 192).

If the function is activated, the road
markings are shown in red in the

Assist is activated, the multifunction display
shows the à symbol when the ignition is
switched on.

Deactivating delayed switch-off of the
exterior lighting temporarily:XBefore leaving the vehicle, turn the
SmartKey to position 0 in the ignition lock.XTurn the SmartKey to position 2 in the
ignition lock and back to position 0.
The exterior lighting delayed switch-off is
deactivated.
Delayed switch-off of the exterior lighting is
reactivated the next time you start the
engine.
Activating/deactivating the interior
lighting delayed switch-off
If you activate the Light. delay function,
the interior lighting remains on for 20
seconds after you remove the SmartKey from
the ignition lock.

Light. Delay function.
When the Light. Delay function is
activated, the vehicle interior is displayed

Vehicle
Activating/deactivating the automatic
door locking feature
If you select the Auto. Door Locks
function, the vehicle is centrally locked above
a speed of around 9 mph (15 km/h).

Activating/deactivating the acoustic
locking verification signal
If you activate the Acoustic Lock function,
an audible signal sounds depending on the
vehicle's date of manufacture:
R when locking
or
R once when unlocking and three times when
locking

Acoustic Lock function.
If the Acoustic Lock function is activated,

system

Check Brake Fluid

There is not enough brake fluid in the brake fluid reservoir.
Additionally, the red $ (USA only)/ J (Canada only)
warning lamp lights up in the instrument cluster and a warning
tone sounds.
XPull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible, paying
attention to road and traffic conditions. Do not continue driving
under any circumstances.XEngage the parking brake.XConsult a qualified specialist workshop.XDo not add brake fluid. This will not rectify the malfunction.GWARNING
Driving with the message Check Brake Fluid Level displayed can result in an accident. Have
your brake system checked immediately.
Do not add brake fluid before checking the brake system. Overfilling the brake fluid reservoir can
result in spilling brake fluid on hot engine parts and the brake fluid catching fire. You can be
seriously burned.

R the DISTRONIC PLUS cover in the radiator grill is dirty.
R the sensors in the bumpers are dirty.
R its function is impaired due to heavy rain or snow.
R the radar sensor system is temporarily inoperative, e.g. due to
electromagnetic radiation emitted by nearby TV or radio
stations or other sources of electromagnetic radiation.
R the system is outside the operating temperature range.
R the on-board voltage is too low.
PRE-SAFE ®
Brake is operational again and the display message
disappears if:
R the dirt (e.g. slush) drops away while the vehicle is in motion.
R the system detects that the sensors are fully available again.
R the system is within the operating temperature range.
If the display message continues to be displayed:
XClean the DISTRONIC PLUS cover in the radiator grill
