With a smart key, you can lock or unlock
a door (and tailgate) and even start the
engine without inserting the key.
The functions of the buttons on a smart
key are similar to the remote keyless
entry.
Lock (1)
All doors (and tailgate) are locked if the
lock button is pressed.
If all doors (and tailgate) are closed, the
hazard warning lights will blink and
chime sounds once to indicate that all
doors (and tailgate) are locked.However, if any door (or tailgate) remains
open, the hazard warning lights will not
operate. But if all doors (and tailgate) are
closed after the lock button is pressed,
the hazard warning lights will blink once.

Unlock (2)
The driver's door is unlocked if the unlock
button is pressed once. The hazard
warning lights will blink and chime
sounds twice to indicate that the driver's
door is unlocked.
All doors (and tailgate) are unlocked if
the unlock button is pressed once more
within 4 seconds. The hazard warning
lights will blink and chime sounds twice
again to indicate that all doors (and tail-
gate) are unlocked.
After pressing this button, the doors (and
tailgate) will be locked automatically
unless you open any door within 30 sec-
onds.
2 stage unlocking may be disabled or re-
enabled by simultaneously pressing the
Lock (1) and Unlock (2) button for 4 sec-
onds (disabling 2 stage unlock allows all
vehicle doors to unlock simultaneously).
The hazard warning lights will blink 4
times to indicate that 2 stage unlock was
enabled or disabled.

Tailgate unlock (3)
The tailgate is unlocked if the button is
pressed for more than 1 second.
The hazard warning lights will blink twice
to indicate that the tailgate is unlocked.
However, after pressing this button, the
tailgate will lock automatically unless you
open the tailgate within 30 seconds.
Also, once the tailgate is opened and
then closed, the tailgate will lock auto-
matically.

Alarm (4)
The horn sounds and the hazard warning
lights blink for about 30 seconds if this
button is pressed for more than 0.5 sec-
onds. To stop the horn and lights, press
any button on the transmitter.

Smart key functions
Carrying the smart key, you may lock and
unlock the vehicle doors (and tailgate).
Also, you may start the engine. Refer to
the following, for more details.

Locking
Pressing the button of the front outside
door handles with all doors (and tailgate)
closed and any door unlocked, locks all
the doors (and tailgate). The hazard
warning lights blink and the chime
sounds once to indicate that all doors
(and tailgate) are locked. The button will
only operate when the smart key is with-
in 0.7~1 m (28~40 in.) from the outside
door handle. If you want to make sure
that a door has locked or not, you should
check the door lock button inside the
vehicle or pull the outside door handle.
Even though you press the button, the
doors will not lock and the chime sounds
for 3 seconds if any of the following
occurs:
The smart key is in the vehicle.
The ENGINE START/STOP button is in
the ACC or ON position.
Any door except the tailgate is opened.

Unlocking
Pressing the button of the driver’s out-
side door handle with all doors (and tail-
gate) closed and locked, unlocks the dri-
ver’s door. The hazard warning lights

ger’s outside door handle with all doors
(and tailgate) closed and locked, unlocks
all the doors (and tailgate). The hazard
warning lights blink and the chime
sounds twice to indicate that all doors
(and tailgate) are unlocked.
The button will only operate when the
smart key is within 0.7~1 m (28~40 in.)
from the outside door handle.
When the smart key is recognized in the
area of 0.7~1 m (28~40 in.) from the front
outside door handle, other people can
also open the door without possession of
the smart key.

Tilt steering/
Telescope steering (if equipped)
Tilt steering allows you to adjust the
steering wheel before you drive.
You can also raise the steering wheel to
give your legs more room when you exit
and enter the vehicle (if equipped).
The steering wheel should be positioned
so that it is comfortable for you to drive,
while permitting you to see the instru-
ment panel warning lights and gauges.To change the steering wheel angle, pull
down the lock-release lever (1), adjust
the steering wheel to the desired angle
(2) and height (3, if equipped) then pull
up the lock-release lever to lock the
steering wheel in place. Be sure to adjust
the steering wheel to the desired position
before driving.
✽ ✽NOTICE
After adjudgement, sometimes the lock-
release lever may not lock the steering
wheel. It is not a malfunction. This
occurs when two gears engage. In this
case, adjust the steering wheel again and
then lock the steering wheel.
Heated steering wheel
(if equipped)
With the ENGINE START/STOP button in
the ON position, pressing the heated
steering wheel button warms the steering
wheel. The indicator on the button will
illuminate.
To turn the steering wheel off, press the
button once again. The indicator on the
button will turn off.
It will turn off automatically approximate-
ly 30 minutes after the heated steering
wheel is turned on.
If ignition is turned OFF, then ON again
within 30 miuntes of steering wheel
heater being turned on, the system will
be automatically be set ON again.WARNING
Never adjust the angle of the
steering wheel while driving. You
may lose steering control and
cause severe personal injury,
death or accidents.
After adjusting, push the steering wheel both up and down to be
certain it is locked in position.

Immobilizer indicator
(if equipped)
With smart key system
If any of the following occurs in a vehicle
equipped with the smart key, the immobi-
lizer indicator illuminates, blinks or goes
off.
When the smart key is in the vehicle, if the ENGINE START/STOP button is in
the ACC or ON position, the indicator
will illuminate for approximately 30
seconds to indicate that you are able to
start the engine. However, when the
smart key is not in the vehicle, if the
ENGINE START/STOP button is
pressed, the indicator will blink for a
few seconds to indicate that you are
not be able to start the engine.
If the indicator illuminates only for 2 seconds and goes out when the
ENGINE START/STOP button is
turned to ON position with the smart
key in the vehicle, have the system
checked by an authorized Kia dealer.
When the battery is weak, if the ENGINE START/STOP button is
pressed, the indicator will blink and you
are not able to start the engine.
However, you are able to start the
engine by inserting the smart key in
the smart key holder. Also, if the smart
key system related parts have a prob-
lem, the indicator will blink.

Malfunction Indicator Light
(MIL) (check engine light)
This indicator light is part of the Engine
Control System which monitors various
emission control system components. If
this light illuminates while driving, it indi-
cates that a potential malfunction has
been detected somewhere in the emis-
sion control system.
This light will also illuminate when the
ignition switch is turned to the ON posi-
tion, and will go out in a few seconds
after the engine is started. If it illuminates
while driving, or does not illuminate when
the ignition switch is turned to the ON
position, take your vehicle to the nearest
authorized Kia dealer and have the sys-
tem checked.
Generally, your vehicle will continue to be
drivable, but have the system checked by
an authorized Kia dealer promptly.
CAUTION
If the Emission Control SystemMalfunction Indicator Light illumi-nates, potential catalytic converterdamage is possible. This could result in loss of engine power. Havethe Engine Control System inspect- ed as soon as possible by anauthorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION
Prolonged driving with the Emission Control System MalfunctionIndicator Light illuminated may cause damage to the emission con-trol systems which could effect dri-vability and/or fuel economy.

Cruise indicators (if equipped)
CRUISE indicator
The indicator illuminates when the cruise
control system is enabled.
The cruise indicator in the instrument
cluster is illuminated when the cruise
control ON-OFF switch on the steering
wheel is pushed.
The indicator goes off when the cruise
control ON-OFF switch is pushed again.
For more information about the use of
cruise control, refer to “Cruise control
system” in section 5.
Cruise SET indicator
The indicator illuminates when the cruise
function switch (SET - or RES +) is ON.
The cruise SET indicator in the instru-
ment cluster is illuminated when the
cruise control switch (SET - or RES +) is
pushed.
The cruise SET indicator does not illumi-
nate when the cruise control switch
(CANCEL) is pushed or the system is
disengaged.

Key reminder warning chime
(if equipped)
If the driver’s door is opened while the
ignition key is left in the ignition switch
(ACC or LOCK position), the key
reminder warning chime will sound. This
is to prevent you from locking your keys
in the vehicle. The chime sounds until the
key is removed from the ignition switch or
the driver’s door is closed.
KEY OUT indicator (if equipped)
When the ENGINE START/STOP button
is in the ACC or ON position, if any door
is open, the system checks for the smart
key. If the smart key is not in the vehicle,
the indicator will blink, and if all doors are
closed, the chime will also sound for
about 5 seconds. The indicator will go off
while the vehicle is moving. Keep the
smart key in the vehicle or insert it in the
smart key holder.
4WD system warning light(if equipped)
When the ignition switch is turned to the
ON position, the 4WD indicator will illu-
minate and then go off in a few seconds.
If the 4WD system warning light
illuminates, this indicates that there is a
malfunction in the 4WD system. If this
occurs, have your vehicle checked by an
authorized Kia dealer as soon as possi-
ble.
