If you continue not to fasten the seat belt
and you drive over 20km/h the seat belt
warning chime will sound for approxi-mately 100 seconds and the correspon-
ding warning light will blink.
✽✽NOTICE
You can find the front passenger’s seat belt warning light on the centre
fascia panel.
Although the front passenger seat is
not occupied, the seat belt warning
light will illuminate for 6 seconds.
The front passenger's seat belt warn- ing may operate when luggage is
placed on the front passenger seat.
Rear (if equipped)
If the ignition switch is turned ON(engine
is not running) when the rear passen-
ger's seat belt is not fastened, the corre-
sponding seat belt warning light will illu-
minate until the belt is fastened. And then, the rear corresponding seat
belt warning light will illuminate for
approximately 35 seconds, if any of fol-
lowing occurs;
- You start the engine when the rear beltis not fastened.
- You drive over 9km/h when the rear belt is not fastened.
- The rear belt is disconnected when you diver under 20km/h.
If the rear seat belt is fastened, the warn-
ing light will turn off immediately. If the rear seat belt is disconnected when
you drive over the 20km/h, the corre-
sponding seat belt warning light will blink
and warning chime will sound for 35 sec-
onds. But, if the rear passenger's seat belt is/are connected and disconnected twice
within 9 seconds after the belt is fas-
tened, the corresponding seat belt warn-
ing light will not operate.

✽✽NOTICE
Both the driver's and front passen- ger's pre-tensioner seat belts will be
activated in certain frontal collisions.
The pre-tensioner seat belts can be
activated, where the frontal collision
is severe enough, together with the air
bags.
When the pre-tensioner seat belts are activated, a loud noise may be heard
and fine dust, which may appear to be
smoke, may be visible in the passenger
compartment. These are normal oper-
ating conditions and are not haz-
ardous.
Although it is harmless, the fine dust may cause skin irritation and should
not be breathed for prolonged peri-
ods. Wash all exposed skin areas thor-
oughly after an accident in which the
pre-tensioner seat belts were activat-
ed.
Because the sensor that activates the
SRS air bag is connected with the pre-
tensioner seat belt, the SRS air bag
warning light on the instrument
panel will illuminate for approximate-
ly 6 seconds after the ignition switch
has been turned to the ON position,
and then it should turn off.WARNING
To obtain maximum benefit from a pre-tensioner seat belt:
1. The seat belt must be worn cor- rectly and adjusted to the proper
position. Please read and follow
all of the important information
and precautions about your vehi-
cle’s occupant safety features –
including seat belts and air bags
– that are provided in this manu-al.
2. Be sure you and your passen- gers always wear seat belts prop-
erly.CAUTION
If the pre-tensioner seat belt is not
working properly, this warning light
will illuminate even if there is no malfunction of the SRS air bag. Ifthe SRS air bag warning light doesnot illuminate when the ignition
switch is turned to ON, or if itremains illuminated after illuminat- ing for approximately 6 seconds, or
if it illuminates whilst the vehicle is being driven, have an authorisedKIA dealer inspect the pre-tension-er seat belt and SRS air bag system
as soon as possible.

How does the air bag system operate
Air bags are activated (able to inflate if
necessary) only when the ignition
switch is turned to the ON or STARTposition.
Air bags inflate instantly in the event of a serious frontal or side collision (if
equipped with side air bag or curtainair bag) in order to help protect the
occupants from serious physical injury.
There is no single speed at which the air bags will inflate.
Generally, air bags are designed to
inflate based upon the severity of a col-
lision and its direction. These two fac-
tors determine whether the sensors
produce an electronic deployment/inflation signal.
Air bag deployment depends on a number of factors including vehiclespeed, angles of impact and the densi-
ty and stiffness of the vehicles or
objects which your vehicle hits in the
collision. The determining factors are
not limited to those mentioned above.
The front air bags will completely inflate and deflate in an instant.
It is virtually impossible for you to see
the air bags inflate during an accident. It is much more likely that you will sim-ply see the deflated air bags hanging
out of their storage compartments afterthe collision.
In order to help provide protection in a severe collision, the air bags must
inflate rapidly. The speed of air baginflation is a consequence of the
extremely short time in which a collisionoccurs and the need to inflate the air
bag between the occupant and the
vehicle structures before the occupant
impacts those structures. This speed of
inflation reduces the risk of serious or
life-threatening injuries in a severe col-
lision and is thus a necessary part of airbag design.
However, air bag inflation can also
cause injuries which can include facial
abrasions, bruises and broken bonesbecause the inflation speed also caus-
es the air bags to expand with a great
deal of force.
There are even circumstances under which contact with the steer-
ing wheel air bag can cause fatal
injuries, especially if the occupant
is positioned excessively close tothe steering wheel.
WARNING
To avoid severe personal injury or death caused by deploying air
bags in a collision, the driver
should sit as far back from the
steering wheel air bag as possi-
ble (at least 250 mm (10 inches)
away). The front passengers
should always move their seats
as far back as possible and sit
back in their seat.
Air bags inflate instantly in the event of collision, and passen-
gers may be injured by the air bag
expansion force if they are not in
a proper position.
Air bag inflation may cause injuries including facial or bodily
abrasions, injuries from broken
glasses or burns.

Air bag warning light
The purpose of the air bag warning light
in your instrument panel is to alert you of
a potential problem with your air bag -
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
When the ignition switch is turned ON,
the warning light should illuminate for
approximately 6 seconds, then go off.
Have the system checked if:
The light does not turn on briefly when
you turn the ignition ON.
The light stays on after illuminating for approximately 6 seconds.
The light comes on whilst the vehicle is in motion.
The light blinks when the ignition switch is in ON position.Passenger’s front air bag
ON indicator (if equipped)
The passenger's front air bag ON indica-
tor illuminates for approximately 4 sec-
onds after the ignition switch is turned tothe ON position. The passenger's front air bag ON indica- tor also comes on when the passenger's
front air bag ON/OFF switch is set to the
ON position and goes off after approxi-
mately 60 seconds.
Passenger’s front air bag OFF indicator (if equipped)
The passenger’s front air bag OFF indi-
cator illuminates for about 4 seconds
after the ignition switch is turned to theON position.
The passenger’s front air bag OFF indi- cator also comes on when the passen-
ger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch is setto the OFF position and goes off when
the passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF
switch is set to the ON position.

10. Anchor pre-tensioner assembly* (driver side)
11. Passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch*
12. Passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF indicator*
* : if equipped The SRSCM continually monitors all SRS components whilst the ignition
switch is ON to determine if a crash
impact is severe enough to require air
bag deployment or pre-tensioner seat
belt deployment.
The SRS air bag warning light " " on
the instrument panel will illuminate for
about 6 seconds after the ignition switch
is turned to the ON position, after which
the SRS air bag warning light " "should go out.
WARNING
If any of the following conditions
occurs, this indicates a malfunction
of the SRS. Have an authorised KIA
dealer inspect the air bag system
as soon as possible.
The light does not turn on briefly when you turn the ignition ON.
The light stays on after illuminat- ing for approximately 6 seconds.
The light comes on whilst the vehicle is in motion.
The light blinks when the ignition switch is in ON position.
CAUTION
If the passenger’s front air bag
ON/OFF switch malfunctions, the
passenger’s front air bag OFF indi-cator will not illuminate (The pas-senger's front air bag ON indicator comes on and goes off after
approximately 60 seconds) and thepassenger’s front air bag will inflatein a frontal impact even if the pas-
senger’s front air bag ON/OFFswitch is set to the OFF position.
If this occurs, have an authorisedKIA dealer inspect the passenger’sfront air bag ON/OFF switch and the
SRS air bag system as soon as pos- sible.

WARNING
Do not install or place any acces- sories (drink holder, sticker, etc.)
on the front passenger's panel
above the glove box in a vehicle
with a passenger's air bag. Such
objects may become dangerous
projectiles and cause injury if the
passenger's air bag inflates.
When installing a container of liq- uid air freshener inside the vehi-
cle, do not place it near the
instrument cluster nor on the
instrument panel surface.
It may become a dangerous pro-
jectile and cause injury if the pas-
senger's air bag inflates.

Passenger’s front air bag
WARNING
If an air bag deploys, there may be a loud noise followed by a fine
dust released in the vehicle. These conditions are normal and
are not hazardous - the air bags
are packed in this fine powder.
The dust generated during air
bag deployment may cause skin
or eye irritation as well as aggra-
vate asthma for some persons.
Always wash all exposed skin
areas thoroughly with lukewarmwater and a mild soap after an
accident in which the air bags
were deployed.
The SRS can function only when the ignition switch is in the ON
position. If the SRS " " warning
light does not illuminate, or con-
tinuously remains on after illumi-
nating for about 6 seconds when
the ignition switch is turned to
the ON position, or after the
engine is started, comes on
whilst driving, the SRS is not
working properly. If this occurs,
have your vehicle immediately
inspected by an authorised KIA
dealer.
(Continued)(Continued)
Before you replace a fuse or dis-connect a battery terminal, turn
the ignition switch to the LOCK
position and remove the ignition
key. Never remove or replace the
air bag related fuse(s) when the
ignition switch is in the ON posi-
tion. Failure to heed this warning
will cause the SRS “ ” warning
light to illuminate.

(Continued)
Children age 12 and under must
always be properly restrained in
the rear seat. Never allow chil-
dren to ride in the front passen-
ger seat. If a child over 12 must
be seated in the front seat, he or
she must be properly belted and
the seat should be moved as far
back as possible.
For maximum safety protection in all types of crashes, all occu-
pants including the driver should
always wear their seat belts
whether or not an air bag is also
provided at their seating position
to minimise the risk of severe
injury or death in the event of a
crash. Do not sit or lean unneces-
sarily close to the air bag whilst
the vehicle is in motion.
(Continued)(Continued)
The SRS is designed to deploythe front air bags only when an
impact is sufficiently severe andwhen the impact angle is less
than 30° from the forward longitu-
dinal axis of the vehicle.
Additionally, the air bags will only
deploy once. Seat belts must be
worn at all times.
Front air bags are not intended to deploy in side-impact, rear-
impact or rollover crashes. In
addition, front air bags will not
deploy in frontal crashes below
the deployment threshold.
A child restraint system must never be placed in the front seat.
The infant or child could be
severely injured or killed by an air
bag deployment in case of anaccident.
(Continued)(Continued)
Sitting improperly or out of posi-tion can result in serious or fatal
injury in a crash. All occupantsshould sit upright with the seat
back in an upright position, cen-tred on the seat cushion with
their seat belt on, legs comfort-
ably extended and their feet on
the floor until the vehicle is
parked and the ignition key is
removed.
The SRS air bag system must deploy very rapidly to provide
protection in a crash. If an occu-pant is out of position because of
not wearing a seat belt, the air
bag may forcefully contact theoccupant causing serious or fatalinjuries.

CAUTION
If the passenger’s front air bag
ON/OFF switch is not working
properly, the air bag warning light
()on the instrument panel will
illuminate.
And, the passenger's front air bagOFF indicator
() will not illumi-
nate (The passenger's front air
bag ON indicator comes on andgoes off after approximately 60seconds), the SRS ControlModule reactivate the passen-
ger’s front air bag and the pas-senger’s front air bag will inflatein frontal impact crashes even if the passenger’s front air bag
ON/OFF switch is set to the OFFposition.
If this occurs, have an authorisedKIA dealer inspect the passen-ger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch,
the pre-tensioner seat belt sys-tem and the SRS air bag systemas soon as possible.

(Continued) If the SRS air bag warning light blinks or does not illuminatewhen the ignition switch is turnedto the ON position, or if it illumi-
nates whilst the vehicle is beingdriven, have an authorised KIA dealer inspect the passenger’s
front air bag ON/OFF switch, pre-tensioner seat belt and the SRS air bag system as soon as possi-ble.WARNING
The driver is responsible for the proper position of the passen-
ger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch.
Deactivate the passenger's front air bag only when the ignition
switch is switched off, or the mal-
function may occur in the SRS
Control Module.
And there may be a danger that
the driver's and/or front passen-
ger’s and/or side and curtain air
bag may fail to trigger, or not trig-
ger correctly during a collision.
Never install a rearward facing
child seat on the front passen-
ger's seat unless the passenger's
front air bag has been deactivat-
ed. The infant or child could be
severely injured or killed by an air
bag deployment in case of anaccident. (Continued)
