from a station transmitter, the signals will
tend to fade and/or drift.
Static and flutter: During signal interfer-
ence from buildings, large hills or due to
antenna position, usually in conjunction
with increased distance from the station
transmitter, static or flutter can be heard.
This can be reduced by lowering the treble
setting to reduce the treble response.
Multipath reception: Because of the reflec-
tive characteristics of FM signals, direct
and reflected signals reach the receiver at
the same time. The signals may cancel
each other, resulting in momentary flutter
or loss of sound.
AM radio reception:
AM signals, because of their low frequency,
can bend around objects and skip along
the ground. In addition, the signals can be
bounced off the ionosphere and bent back
to earth. Because of these characteristics.
AM signals are also subject to interference
as they travel from transmitter to receiver.
Fading: Occurs while the vehicle is passing
through freeway underpasses or in areas
with many tall buildings. It can also occur
for several seconds during ionospheric
turbulence even in areas where no obsta-cles exist.
Static: Caused by thunderstorms, electrical
power lines, electric signs and even traffic
lights.
Satellite radio reception:
When the satellite radio is used for the first
time or the battery has been replaced, the
satellite radio may not work properly. This
is not a malfunction. Wait more than 10
minutes with the satellite radio ON and the
vehicle outside of any metal or large
building for the satellite radio to receive
all of the necessary data.
The satellite radio mode requires an active
XM Satellite Radio
®subscription. The
satellite radio is not available in Alaska,
Hawaii and Guam.
The satellite radio performance may be
affected if cargo carried on the roof blocks
the satellite radio signal.
If possible, do not put cargo near the
satellite antenna.
A build up of ice on the satellite radio
antenna can affect satellite radio perfor-
mance. Remove the ice to restore satellite
radio reception.

Compact Disc (CD) player
. Do not force a compact disc into the CD
insert slot. This could damage the CD
and/or CD changer/player.
. Trying to load a CD with the CD door
closed could damage the CD and/or CD

Removing the antenna:
You can remove the antenna if necessary.
Hold the bottom of the antenna and
remove by turning counterclockwise.
To install the antenna, turn the antenna
clockwise and tighten.
CAUTION
.To avoid damaging or deforming the
antenna, be sure to remove the antenna
under the following conditions.
—The vehicle enters an automatic car
wash.
—The vehicle enters a garage with alow ceiling.
—The vehicle is covered with a carcover.
. Always properly tighten the antenna rod
during installation. Otherwise, the an-
tenna rod may break during vehicle
operation.
When installing a car phone or a CB radio
in your vehicle, be sure to observe the
following cautions, otherwise the new
equipment may adversely affect the elec-
tronic control modules and electronic con-
trol system harness.
WARNING
.A cellular phone should not be used for
any purpose while driving so full atten-
tion may be given to vehicle operation.
Some jurisdictions prohibit the use of
cellular phones while driving.
. If you must make a call while your
vehicle is in motion, the hands-free
cellular phone operational mode (if so
equipped) is highly recommended. Ex-
ercise extreme caution at all times so full
attention may be given to vehicle opera-
tion.
. If a conversation in a moving vehicle
requires you to take notes, pull off the
road to a safe location and stop your
vehicle before doing so.

WARNING
.Drive carefully when off the road and
avoid dangerous areas. Every person
who drives or rides in this vehicle should
be seated with their seat belt fastened.
This will keep you and your passengers
in position when driving over rough
terrain.
. Do not drive across steep slopes. Instead
drive either straight up or straight down
the slopes. Off-road vehicles can tip over
sideways much more easily than they
can forward or backward.
. Many hills are too steep for any vehicle.
If you drive up them, you may stall. If
you drive down them, you may not be
able to control your speed. If you drive
across them, you may roll over.
. Do not shift ranges while driving on
downhill grades as this could cause loss
of control of the vehicle.
. Stay alert when driving to the top of a
hill. At the top there could be a drop-off
or other hazard that could cause an
accident. .
If your engine stalls or you cannot make
it to the top of a steep hill, never attempt
to turn around. Your vehicle could tip or
roll over. Always back straight down in R
(Reverse) range. Never back down in N
(Neutral), using only the brake, as this
could cause loss of control.
. Heavy braking going down a hill could
cause your brakes to overheat and fade,
resulting in loss of control and an
accident. Apply brakes lightly and use
a low range to control your speed.
. Unsecured cargo can be thrown around
when driving over rough terrain. Prop-
erly secure all cargo so it will not be
thrown forward and cause injury to you
or your passengers.
. To avoid raising the center of gravity
excessively, do not exceed the rated
capacity of the roof rack (if so equipped)
and evenly distribute the load. Secure
heavy loads in the cargo area as far
forward and as low as possible. Do not
equip the vehicle with tires larger than
specified in this manual. This could
cause your vehicle to roll over.
. Do not grip the inside or spokes of the
steering wheel when driving off-road. The steering wheel could move suddenly
and injure your hands. Instead drive with
your fingers and thumbs on the outside
of the rim.
. Before operating the vehicle, ensure that
the driver and all passengers have their
seat belts fastened.
. Always drive with the floor mats in place
as the floor may became hot.
. Lower your speed when encountering
strong crosswinds. With a higher center
of gravity, your INFINITI is more affected
by strong side winds. Slower speeds
ensure better vehicle control.
. Do not drive beyond the performance
capability of the tires, even with AWD
engaged.
. For AWD equipped vehicles, do not
attempt to raise two wheels off the
ground and shift the transmission to
any drive or reverse position with the
engine running. Doing so may result in
drivetrain damage or unexpected vehicle
movement which could result in serious
vehicle damage or personal injury.
. Do not attempt to test an AWD equipped
vehicle on a 2-wheel dynamometer (such
as the dynamometers used by some
