Features of your vehicle
Immobiliser system
Your vehicle may be equipped with an electronic engine immobiliser system to
reduce the risk of unauthorised vehicle
use.
Your immobiliser system is comprised of
a small transponder in the ignition key
and electronic devices inside the vehicle.
With the immobiliser system, whenever
you insert your ignition key into the igni-
tion switch and turn it to ON, it checks
and determines and verifies if the ignition
key is valid or not.
If the key is determined to be valid, the
engine will start.
If the key is determined to be invalid, the
engine will not start.To deactivate the immobiliser sys-tem:
Insert the ignition key into the key cylin-
der and turn it to the ON position.
To activate the immobiliser system:
Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
The immobiliser system activates auto-
matically. Without a valid ignition key for
your vehicle, the engine will not start.
WARNING - Ignition key
Leaving children unattended in a
vehicle with the ignition key is dan-
gerous even if the key is not in the
ignition switch. Children copy
adults and they could place the key
in the ignition switch. The ignition
key would enable children to oper-
ate power windows or other con-
trols, or even make the vehicle
move, which could result in serious
bodily injury or even death. Never
leave the keys in your vehicle with
unsupervised children.
WARNING
Use only HYUNDAI original parts
for the ignition key in your vehicle.
If an aftermarket key is used, the
ignition switch may not return to
ON after START. If this happens,
the starter will continue to operate
causing damage to the starter
motor and possible fire due to
excessive current in the wiring.
WARNING
In order to prevent theft of your
vehicle, do not leave spare keys
anywhere in your vehicle.

Your vehicle is equipped with an electron- ic engine immobiliser system to reduce

Your immobiliser system is comprised of
a small transponder in the smart key and
electronic devices inside the vehicle.
With the immobiliser system, whenever
you turn the engine start/stop button to
the ON position by pressing the button
whilst carrying the smart key, it checks
and determines and verifies if the smart
key is valid or not.
If the key is determined to be valid, the
engine will start.
If the key is determined to be invalid, the
engine will not start.To deactivate the immobiliser sys-tem:
Turn the engine start/stop button to the
ON position by pressing the button whilst
carrying the smart key.
To activate the immobiliser system:
Turn the engine start/stop button to the
OFF position. The immobiliser system
activates automatically. Without a valid
smart key for your vehicle, the engine will
not start.
✽✽ NOTICE
When starting the engine, do not use the
key with other immobiliser keys around.
Otherwise the engine may not start or
may stop soon after it starts. Keep each
key separate in order to avoid a starting
malfunction.
WARNING
In order to prevent theft of your
vehicle, do not leave spare keys
anywhere in your vehicle.
CAUTION
Do not put metal accessories near the smart key.
The engine may not start becausethe metal accessories may interrupt
the transponder signal from trans-mitting normally.

Removing and storing the spare tyre
Turn the tyre hold-down wing bolt
counterclockwise.
Store the tyre in the reverse order of
removal.
To prevent the spare tyre and tools
from “rattling” whilst the vehicle is in
motion, store them properly.Changing tyres
1. Park on a level surface and apply
the parking brake firmly.
2. Shift the shift lever into R (Reverse) for manual transaxle or
P (Park) for automatic transaxle.
3. Activate the hazard warning flash- er.

The vehicle can easily roll offthe jack causing serious
injury or death. No person
should place any portion of
their body under a vehicle that
is supported only by a jack;
use vehicle support stands.
Do not start or run the engine whilst the vehicle is on the
jack.
Do not allow anyone remain in the vehicle whilst it is on the
jack.
Make sure any children pres- ent are in a secure place away
from the road and from the
vehicle to be raised with the
jack.

4. Remove the wheel brace, jack,
jack handle, and spare tyre from
the vehicle.
5. Block both the front and rear of wheel that is diagonally opposite
the jack position. 6. Insert the screwdriver into the
groove of the wheel cap and pry
gently to remove the wheel cap (Ifequipped).
WARNING - Changing a tyre
To prevent vehicle movement
whilst changing a tyre, always
set the parking brake fully,
and always block the wheel
diagonally opposite the wheel
being changed.
We recommend that the wheels of the vehicle be
chocked, and that no person
remain in a vehicle that is
being jacked.

10. Loosen the wheel nuts and
remove them with your fingers. Slide the wheel off the studs and
lay it flat so it cannot roll away. To
put the wheel on the hub, pick up
the spare tyre, line up the holeswith the studs and slide the
wheel onto them. If this is diffi-cult, tip the wheel slightly and getthe top hole in the wheel lined up
with the top stud. Then jiggle the
wheel back and forth until the
wheel can be slid over the other
studs. 11. To reinstall the wheel, hold it on
the studs, put the wheel nuts onthe studs and tighten them finger
tight. Jiggle the tyre to be sure itis completely seated, then tight-
en the nuts as much as possible
with your fingers again.
12. Lower the vehicle to the ground by turning the wheel brace coun-
terclockwise.
WARNING
Wheels may have sharp edges. Handle them carefully
to avoid possible severe
injury.
Before putting the wheel into place, be sure that there isnothing on the hub or wheel
(such as mud, tar, gravel, etc.)
that interferes with the wheel
from fitting solidly against the
hub. If there is, remove it. Ifthe contact of the mountingsurface between the wheel
and hub is not good, the
wheel nuts could come looseand cause the loss of a wheel.
Loss of a wheel may result in
loss of control of the vehicle.
This may cause serious injuryor death.

To prevent the jack, jack handle,
wheel brace and spare tyre from rat-
tling whilst the vehicle is in motion,
store them properly.
Important - use of compact spare
tyre (if equipped)
Your vehicle is equipped with a com-
pact spare tyre. This compact spare
tyre takes up less space than a reg-
ular-size tyre. This tyre is smaller
than a conventional tyre and is
designed for temporary use only.
The compact spare should be inflat-
ed to 420 kPa (60 psi).
✽✽NOTICE
Check the inflation pressure after
installing the spare tyre. Adjust it to
the specified pressure, as necessary.
CAUTION
You should drive carefully when the compact spare is inuse. The compact spareshould be replaced by theproper conventional tyre and rim at the first opportunity.
The operation of this vehicle is not recommended withmore than one compact sparetyre in use at the same time.
WARNING
The compact spare tyre is for
emergency use only. Do not
operate your vehicle on thiscompact spare at the speed
over 80 km/h (50 mph). Theoriginal tyre should be repaired
or replaced as soon as possible
to avoid failure of the spare
possibly leading to personal
injury or death.WARNING - Wheel studs
If the studs are damaged, they
may lose their ability to retain
the wheel. This could lead to theloss of the wheel and a collisionresulting in serious injuries.
WARNING - Inadequate
spare tyre pressure
Check the inflation pressures
as soon as possible after
installing the spare tyre. Adjust
it to the specified pressure, if
necessary. Refer to “Tyres and
wheels” in section 8.

When using a compact spare tyre,
observe the following precautions:
Under no circumstances shouldyou exceed 80 km/h (50 mph); a higher speed could damage the
tyre.
Ensure that you drive slowly enough to avoid all hazards. Anyroad hazard, such as a pothole or
debris, could seriously damage the
compact spare.
Any continuous road use of this tyre could result in tyre failure, loss
of vehicle control, and possible
personal injury.
Do not exceed the vehicle’s maxi- mum load rating or the load-carry-
ing capacity shown on the sidewall
of the compact spare tyre.
Avoid driving over obstacles. The compact spare tyre diameter issmaller than the diameter of a con-
ventional tyre and reduces the
ground clearance approximately25 mm (1 inch), which could result
in damage to the vehicle. Do not take this vehicle through an
automatic car wash whilst the com-pact spare tyre is installed.
Do not use tyre chains on the com- pact spare tyre. Because of the
smaller size, a tyre chain will not fit
properly. This could damage the
vehicle and result in loss of thechain.
The compact spare tyre should not be installed on the front axle if the
vehicle must be driven in snow or
on ice.
Do not use the compact spare tyre on any other vehicle because thistyre has been designed especially
for your vehicle.
The compact spare tyre’s tread life is shorter than a regular tyre.
Inspect your compact spare tyre
regularly and replace worn com-
pact spare tyres with the same sizeand design, mounted on the samewheel. The compact spare tyre should not
be used on any other wheels, nor
should standard tyres, snow tyres,
wheel covers or trim rings be used
with the compact spare wheel. Ifsuch use is attempted, damage tothese items or other car compo-
nents may occur.
Do not use more than one compact spare tyre at a time.
Do not tow a trailer whilst the com- pact spare tyre is installed.

Maintenance

At least monthly:
Check the coolant level in the engine
coolant reservoir.
Check the operation of all exterior lights, including the stoplights, turn sig-
nals and hazard warning flashers.
Check the inflation pressures of all tyres including the spare.
At least twice a year
(i.e., every Spring and Fall):
Check the radiator, heater and air con- ditioning hoses for leaks or damage.
Check the windscreen washer spray and wiper operation. Clean wiper
blades with clean cloth dampened with
washer fluid.
Check the headlight alignment.
Check the muffler, exhaust pipes, shields and clamps.
Check the lap/shoulder belts for wear and function.
Check for worn tyres and loose wheel lug nuts.
At least once a year:
Clean the body and door drain holes.
Lubricate the door hinges and checks,and bonnet hinges.
Lubricate the door and bonnet locks and latches.
Lubricate the door rubber weather- strips.
Check the air conditioning system.
Inspect and lubricate automatic transaxle linkage and controls.
Clean the battery and terminals.
Check the brake/clutch fluid level.
