227Practical information
We recommend the use of genuine
CITROËN towbars and their harnesses that have been tested and approvedfrom the design stage of your vehicle,and that the fitting of the towbar is
entrusted to a CITROËN dealer or aqualified workshop.
If the towbar is not fitted by a CITROËN dealer, it is imperative that it isfitted in accordance with the vehiclemanufacturer's instructions.
Driving advice
Distribution of loads
)
Distribute the load in the trailer so that the
heaviest items are as close as possible to
t
he axle and the nose weight approaches the
maximum permitted without exceeding it.
Air density decreases with altitude, thus
reducing engine performance. Above
1 000 metres, the maximum towed load must
be reduced b
y 10 % for every 1 000 metres of altitude.
Side wind
)
Take into account the increased sensitivity
to side wind.
Cooling
To w i ng a trailer on a slope increases the
temperature of the coolant.
As the
fan is electrically controlled, its cooling capacity is not dependent on the engine speed. )
To lower the engine speed, reduce your speed.
)If the warning lamp and the STOP
warning lamp come on,
stop the vehicle and switch off
the engine as soon as possible.
Braking
To w i ng a trailer increases the braking distance.
To avoid overheating of the brakes on a long
mountain type of descent, the use of enginebraking is recommended.
Tyres
)
Check the tyre pressures of the towingvehicle and of the trailer, obser ving the
recommended pressures.
Lighting
)
Check the electrical lighting and signalling on the trailer.
The rear parking sensors will be deactivated automatically if a genuineCITROËN towbar is used.
Driving with a trailer places greater demands on the towing vehicle and the driver must take par ticular care.
The maximum towed load on a long incline depends on the gradient and the ambient
tem
perature.
In all cases, keep a check on the coolant
temperature.

of the weights and towed loads which apply toyour vehicle.

Accessories
A wide range of accessories and genuine par ts is available from the CITROËN dealer network.
These accessories and par ts have been tested and approved for reliability and safety.
They are all adapted to your vehicle and benefit from CITROËN's recommendation and warranty.
"Comfort":
door deflectors, side window blinds, rear screen blind, isotherm module, coat hanger fixed to head restraint, mobile reading lamp, mirror for caravan, parking sensors...
"Transport systems":
child seats and booster cushions, boot carpet,
boot liner, boot net, boot spacers, transverse
roof bars, bic
ycle carrier, ski carrier, roof boxes,
towbars, wiring harnesses...
If a towbar and wiring harness are fitted
outside the CITROËN dealer network, theinstallation must be done using the vehicle's electrical pre-equipment and fitted following the manufacturer's recommendations.
"Styling":
gear lever knobs, aluminium foot rest, alloy wheels, chrome mirror shells, chrome door aperture finishers...
*
To avoid an
y risk of jamming the pedals:
- ensure that mats are correctly positionedand secured,
- never fit one mat on top of another.
"Security and safety":
anti-intrusion alarm, anti-tilt unit, stolen
vehicle tracking system, child seats and
booster cushions, breathalyser, first aid kit, fire
extinguisher, warning triangle, high visibility
vest, wheel security bolts, snow chains, non-
slip covers...
"Protection":
mats * , seat covers compatible with lateral
airbags, mud flaps, door protective mouldings,bumper protection strips, vehicle cover...
The rear bodywork has been designed to avoid spray.
The fitting of electrical equipment or accessories which are not recommended by CITROËN may resultin a failure of your vehicle's electronicsystem and excessive electricalconsumption.
Please note this precaution. You are advised to contact a CITROËNrepresentative to be shown the range of recommended equipment and accessories.
Installation of radio communication transmitters
Before installing any after-market radiocommunication transmitter, you can contact a CITROËN dealer for the specification of transmitters which can be fitted (frequency, maximum power, aerial position, specific installation requirements), in line with the Vehicle Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2004/10 4/EC).
Depending on the legislation in force in the country, it may be compulsoryto have a high visibility safety vest,warning triangle and spare bulbs andfuses available in the vehicle.
B
y visiting a CITROËN dealer you can also
obtain cleaning and maintenance products
(interior and exterior) - including ecological
products in the "TECHNATURE" range,
products for topping up (screenwash...), paint
touch-up pens and aerosols for the exact colour
of
your vehicle, refills (sealant car tridge for the
temporary puncture repair kit...), ...
"Multimedia":
audio systems, steering mounted audio controls, speakers, Hi-Fi module, Bluetooth hands-free system, por table satellite navigationsystem, semi-integral suppor t bracket for portable navigation system, driving assistancesystems, USB Box, reversing camera, por table
video screen, por table video support bracket,
230 V/50 Hz socket, 230 V/12 V adaptor, Wi-Fion board...
Particle emission filter (Diesel)
The start of saturation of theparticle filter is indicated bythe temporary illumination of
this warning lamp accompanied by a message
in the multi-function screen.
As soon as the traffic conditions permit, regenerate the filter by driving at aspeed of at least 40 mph (60 km/h) until the warning lamp goes off.
If the warning lamp stays on, this indicates a low additive level.
On a new vehicle, the first par ticlefilter regeneration operations may be accompanied by a "burning" smell, which is perfectly normal.
Following prolonged operation of the vehicle at very low speed or at idle, you may, in exceptional circumstances,notice the emission of water vapour at the exhaust on acceleration. This does not affect the behaviour of the vehicle or the environment.
The 100% electric mode is not available during regeneration of the par ticle emissions filter.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Oil filter
Replace the oil filter each time the engine oil is changed.
Refer to the ser vicing booklet for
details of the replacement interval for
this component.
Re
fer to the ser vicing booklet for
details of the replacement intervals
for these components.
Dependin
g on the environment (e.g. dustyatmosphere) and the use of the vehicle (e.g. city driving), replace them twice as often if necessary.y A clogged passenger compartment filter mayhave an adverse effect on the performance
of the air conditioning system and generate undesirable odours.
243Checks
6-speed electronic gearbox
The gearbox does not require anymaintenance (no oil change).
Refer to the ser vicing booklet for
details of the checking interval for
this component.
Brake wear depends on the st
yle
of driving, par ticularly in the case
of vehicles used in town, over shor tdistances. It may be necessary tohave the condition of the brakes checked, evenbetween vehicle services.
Unless there is a leak in the circuit, a drop in
the brake fluid level indicates that the brakepads are worn.
Brake pads
For information on checking brake
disc wear, contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Brake disc wear
Electric parking brake
This system does not require anyroutine servicing. However, in the
event of a problem, have the systemchecked by a CITROËN dealer or aqualified workshop.
Only use products recommended by CITROËN or products of equivalent quality and specification. In order to optimise the operationof units as impor tant as the braking
system, CITROËN selects and offers very specific products.
To avoid damaging the electrical units, the use of a high pressure washer in the engine compar tment is strictly prohibited.
For more information, refer to the "Electric parking brake - Operating faults" section.
Range varies according to the ambient climatic conditions, the driving style and conditions, the use of vehicle systems and ageing of the battery.
