Airbagsystem
Ttisnotpossibletodefinearangeofvehicle
speedsthatwillcoyereverypossible kindand
angleofimpactthatwillalwaystriggerthe
airbags,sincethecircumstanceswillvary con
siderably
betweenonecollisionandanother.
Importantfactorsinclude, forexample,the
nature(hardorsoft)oftheobjectwhichthe
carhits,theangleofimpact,vehiclespeed,
etc.Thefrontairbagswillalsonotinflatein
sideorrearcollisions,orinroll-overs.
Always
remember:Airbags willdeployonly
once,
andonlyincertainkindsofcollisions.
Your
safetybeltsarealwaystheretoofferpro
tectioninthosesituationsinwhichairbags
arenotsupposedtodeploy,orwhentheyhave
alreadydeployed;forexample,whenyourve
hicle
strikesorisstruckbyanotherafterthe
firstcollision.
This
isjustoneofthereasonswhy anairbagis
asupplementaryrestraintandisnotasubsti
tuteforasafetybelt.Theairbagsystem
worksmosteffectivelywhenusedwiththe
safetybelts.Therefore,alwaysproperlywear
yoursafetybeltsqpage103.

Sittingtooclosetothesteeringwheelor
instrumentpanelwilldecreasetheeffec
tivenessoftheairbagsandwillincrease
theriskofpersonalinjuryinacollision.

Eventhoughyourvehicleisequippedwithan
AdvancedAirbagSystem,makecertainthat

younger,always rideinthebackseatproperly

fortheirageandsize. Theairbag
onthepassengersidemakesthefrontseata
potentially
dangerousplace forachildtoride.
The
frontseatisnotthesafestplacefora
child
inaforward-facingchildsafetyseat.It
can beaverydangerousplaceforaninfantor
achildinarearward-facingseat.

TheStandardrequiresthefrontairbagonthe

pressed") ifachilduptoaboutoneyearof
agerestrainedinoneoftherear-facingorfor
ward-facing
infantrestraintslistedinFederal
Motor Vehicle
SafetyStandard208withwhich
theAdvanced AirbagSysteminyourvehicle
was
certifjedhasbeeninstalledonthefront
passengerseat.For alistingofthechild re

ThePASSENGER AIRBAGOFFlightinthein
strumentpaneltellsyouwhenthefrontAd

Each
timeyouturnontheignition,thePAS

butlessthantheweightofasmall

cleanerscoulddamagetheairbagcoyer
or
changethestiffnessorstrengthofthe
materialsothattheairbagcannotde
ploy
andprotectproperly.
-Never repair,adjust,orchangeanyparts
oftheairbagsystem.
-Allworkonthesteeringwheel,instru
mentpanel,frontseatsorelectricalsys
tem(includingtheinstallationofaudio
equipment,cellulartelephonesandCS
radios,etc.)mustbeperformedbya
qualified technician whohasthetraining
and
specialequipmentnecessary.
-For anyworkontheairbagsystem,we
strongly
recommendthatyouseeyour
authorizedAudidealeror qualified work
shop.
