er'ssideB-pillar. Thetirepressurelabellists
therecommendedcoldtireinflation pressures
forthevehicleatitsmaximumcapacity
weightandtiresthatwereonyour vehicleat
thetimeitwasmanufactured.
Bear inmindthatthetirepressuremonitoring
systemcan onlymonitorthetirepressures
you havestored.Thesystemdoesnotrecog­
nize
theload conditionofyourvehicle.
The
effectivenessofthetirepressuremonitor­
ing
systemwill beimpairedifyoustorenor­
malloadpressuresbutthenoperatethevehi­
cle
atitsmaximumloadq,&.

squareinch(PSI). Tirepressureisbasedin
partonthevehicle'sdesignandloadlimit­
thegreatestamountofweightthatthevehi­
cle can carry
safelyandthetiresize. Theprop­
ertirepressureisfrequentlyreferredtoasthe
"recommendedcold tireinflationpressure."
Airinthetiresexpandswhenthetireheatsup
becauseofinternalfrictionwhenitflexesin
use. Thetirepressureishigherwhenthetire
haswarmedupthanwhenitis"cold."Itisthe
inflationpressureina"cold" tirethatcounts.
Therefore, youshouldneverletairoutofa
warmtiretomatch"coldtireinflation pres­
sure"
recommendations.Thetireswouldthen
beunderinflatedandcould failsuddenly.
Maintainingpropertirepressureisoneofthe
mostimportantthingsyoucandotohelp
avoid
suddentire failure.Underinflatedtires
areamajorcauseofsuddentire failure. Keep­
ing
tiresattherightpressureisalsoimpor­
tantforsafeandresponsive vehiclehandling,
traction,brakingandloadcarrying. Tirepres­
suresareparticularlyimportantwhenthe
vehicle isbeingdrivenathigherspeeds,and
thenespeciallywhenheavilyloadedeven
withinthepermissibleload-carryingcapaci­
tiesapprovedforyourvehicle.
