FUEL SYSTEM
Checking Fuel LineINFOID:0000000005931055
Inspect fuel lines, fuel filler cap and fuel tank for improper attach-
ment, leaks, cracks, damage, loos
e connections, chafing or deterio-
ration.
If necessary, repair or replace damaged parts.
General PrecautionINFOID:0000000005931056
WARNING:
When replacing fuel line parts, be sure to observe the following.
• Put a “CAUTION: FLAMMABLE” sign in the work area.
• Be sure to work in a well ventilated area and have a CO
2 fire extinguisher.
• Do not smoke while working on the fuel system. Keep open flames and sparks away from the work area.
• Put drained fuel in an explosion-proof containe r and put the lid on securely. Keep the container in
safe area.
CAUTION:
• Use gasoline required by the regulations for octane number. Refer to GI-4, "
Precaution for Fuel
(Unleaded Regular Gasoline Recommended)".
• Before removing fuel line parts, perform the following procedures:
- Release fuel pressure from the fuel lines. Refer to EC-499, "
Inspection" (HR16DE), EC-582, "Fuel
Pressure Check" (MR18DE).
- Disconnect the battery ground cable.
• Always replace O-rings and clamps with new ones.
• Do not kink or twist tubes when they are being installed.
• Perform work on level surface.
• Do not tighten hose clamps excessi vely to avoid damaging hoses.
• After connecting fuel tube quick connector s, make sure quick connectors are secure.
Ensure that connector and resin tube do not contact any adjacent parts.
• After installing tubes, make sure there is no fu el leakage at connections in the following steps.
- Apply fuel pressure to fuel lin es by turning ignition switch ON (without starting the engine). Then
check for fuel leaks at the fuel tube connections.
- Start engine and rev it up and check for fuel leaks at connections.
• Use only a genuine NISSAN fuel filler cap as a replacemen t. If an incorrect fuel filler cap is used, the
MIL may come on.
• For servicing “Evaporative Emission System” parts, refer to EC-501, "
Inspection" (HR16DE), EC-528,
"Component Inspection" (MR18DE).
• For servicing "On Board Refueling Vapo r Recovery (ORVR)" parts, refer to EC-535, "
Component
Inspection".

PRECAUTIONS
• Replace oil seals, gaskets, packings, O-rings, locking washers, cotter pins, self-locking nuts, etc. with new
ones.
• Replace inner and outer races of tapered roller bearings and needle bearings as a set.
• Arrange the disassembled parts in accordance with their assembled locations and sequence.
• Do not touch the terminals of electrical com ponents which use microcomputers (such as ECM).
Static electricity may damage internal electronic components.
• After disconnecting vacuum or air hoses, atta ch a tag to indicate the proper connection.
• Use only the fluids and lubricants specified in this manual.
• Use approved bonding agent, sealants or their equivalents when required.
• Use hand tools, power tools (disassembly only) and recommended special tools where specified for safe and efficient service repairs.
• When repairing the fuel, oil, water, vacuum or exhaust systems, check all affected lines for leaks.
• Before servicing the vehicle: Protect fenders, upholstery and carpeting with appropriate covers.
Take caution that keys, buckles or buttons do not scratch paint.
WARNING:
To prevent ECM from storing the diagnostic tro uble codes, do not carelessly disconnect the harness
connectors which are related to the engine control system and TCM (transmission control module)
system. The connectors should be disconnected only when working according to the WORK FLOW of
TROUBLE DIAGNOSES in EC, CVT, and AT sections.
Precaution for Three Way CatalystINFOID:0000000005929712
If a large amount of unburned fuel flows into the catalyst , the catalyst temperature will be excessively high. To
prevent this, follow the instructions.
• Use unleaded gasoline only. Leaded gasoline will seriously damage the three way catalyst.
• When checking for ignition spark or measuring engine compression, make tests quickly and only when nec- essary.
• Do not run engine when the fuel tank level is low, otherwise the engine may misfire, causing damage to the
catalyst.
Do not place the vehicle on flammable material. Keep flammable material off the exhaust pipe and the three
way catalyst.
Precaution for Fuel (Unleade d Regular Gasoline Recommended)INFOID:0000000005929713
Use unleaded regular gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number (Research
octane number 91).
CAUTION:
Do not use leaded gasoline. Using leaded gasoline will damage the three way catalyst. Do not use E-85
fuel (85% fuel ethanol, 15% unleaded gasoline) unless the vehicle is specifically designed for E-85 fuel

RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS
RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS
Fluids and LubricantsINFOID:0000000005931134
*1: For further details, see “Engine Oil Recommendation”.
*2: If Genuine NISSAN gear oil is not available, API GL-4, Viscosity SAE 75W-85 may also be used as a temporary replacement. How-
ever, use Genuine NISSAN gear oil as soon as it is available.
*3: If Genuine NISSAN ge ar oil is not available, API GL-4, Viscosity SAE 75W-80 may be used as a temporary replacement. However
use Genuine NISSAN gear oil as soon as it is available.
*4: If Genuine NISSAN Matic S ATF is not available, Genuine NISSIAN Matic D ATF may also be used. Using automatic transmission
other than Genuine NISSAN Matic S or Genuine NISSIAN Matic D ATF will cause deteri oration in driveability and automatic transmis-
sion durability, and may damage the automatic transmission, which is not covered by th e NISSAN new vehicle limited warranty.
*5: Use only Genuine NISSAN CVT Fluid NS-2. Using transmission fluid other than Genuine NISSAN CVT Fluid NS-2 will dam-
age the CVT, which is not covered by the NISSAN new vehicle limited warranty.
*6: Available in mainland U.S.A. through a NISSAN dealer.
*7: For further details, see “Air conditioner specification label”. Description
