when in the manual gearshift program.
Upshift indicator UP =
fades out other mes-
sages until you have shifted up.
When the engine oil temperature is below
80 †, the oil temperature is shown in blue.
Avoid driving at full engine output during this
time.
SETUP SETUP shows the drive program, the ESP
®
(Electronic Stability Program) mode and the
SPORT handling mode.
X Press =or; on the steering wheel
to select the AMG menu.
X Press the 9button repeatedly until
SETUP is displayed. :

RACETIMER Displaying and starting the RACETIMER
You can use the RACETIMER to store lap
times.
X
Press =or; on the steering wheel
to select the AMG menu.
X Press the 9button repeatedly until the
RACETIMER is shown.
i If RACETIMER is selected, the menu bar
cannot be called up with the =
and ; buttons. :

You can start the RACETIMER when the
engine is running or if the key is in position
2 in the ignition lock.
X To start: press the abutton to start the

Displaying the intermediate time
X
Press =or; to select Interm. Time .
X Press the abutton to confirm.
The intermediate time is displayed fo rfive
seconds.
Starting a new lap
It is possible to store a maximum of sixteen
laps.
X Press ato confirm New Lap .

RACETIMER

Stopping the RACETIMER
X Press the %button on the steering
wheel. X
Press ato confirm YES .
The RACETIMER interrupts timing when you
stop the vehicle and tur nthe key to position
1 in the ignition lock. When you turn the key
to position 2or 3and then press the ato
confirm Start , timing is continued. Resetting the current lap
X
Stop the RACETIMER.
X Press =or; to select Reset Lap .
X Press ato reset the lap time to "0”.
Deleting all laps
If you switch off the engine, the RACETIMER
is reset to "0" after 30 seconds. All laps are
deleted.
You cannot delete individual stored laps. If
you have stopped 16 laps, the current lap
does not have to be reset.
X Reset the current lap.
X Press ato confirm Reset .
Reset Race Timer? appears in the multi-
function display. X
Press the :button to select Yes and
press the abutton to confirm.
All laps are deleted.
Overall evaluation This function is shown if you have stored at
least one lap and stopped the RACETIMER.
X

overall evaluation is shown. :

R opened the driver's door and released the sea tbelt or
R switched off the engine or
R opened the bonnet
At one may also sound at regular intervals. The tone becomes
louder if you attempt to lock the vehicle.
You cannot start the engine.
X Paying attention to the traffic situation, immediately depress the
brake pedal firmly and hold until the display message disap-
pears.
X Prevent the vehicle from rolling away before you leave it
(Y page 342).
You can restart the engine. J
Check brake fluid
level G
Risk of accident
There is insufficien tbrake fluid in the brake fluid reservoir. In addi-
tion, the red Jwarning lamp lights up in the instrument cluster
and a warning tone sounds.
X Pull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible, paying
attention to road and traffic conditions. Do not continue driving
under any circumstances.
X Apply the parking brake.
X Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
X Do not top up the brake fluid. This does not correct the error. #
Check brake wear The brake pads/linings have reached their wearl
imit.
X Visit a qualified specialist workshop. PRE-SAFE

Brake is temporarily inoperative if:
R the DISTRONIC PLUS cover in the radiator grille is dirty.
R the sensors in the bumpers are dirty.
R its function is impaired due to heavy rain or snow.
R the rada rsensor system is temporarily inoperative, e.g. due to
electromagnetic radiation emitted by nearby TV or radio sta-
tions or other sources of electromagnetic radiation.
R you switch off ESP ®
(AMG vehicles only).
R the system is outside the operating temperature range.
R the on-board voltage is too low.
PRE-SAFE ®
Brake is operational again and the display message
disappears if:
R the dirt (e.g. slush) drops away while the vehicle is in motion.
R the system detects that the sensors are fully available again.
R you reactivate ESP ®
(AMG vehicles only).
R the system is within the operating temperature range.
If the display message continues to be displayed:
X Clean the DISTRONIC PLUS cover in the radiator grille
(Y page 330).
X Clean the bumpers (Y page 330).
X Restart the engine.
X Wait until the battery is sufficiently charged. PRE-SAFE

X If the coolant needs topping up more often than usual, have the
engine coolant system checked at a qualified specialist work-

fic conditions, and switch off the engine.
X Make sure that the air supply to the engine radiator is not
blocked, e.g. by frozen slush.
X Wait until the display message disappears before restarting the
engine. Otherwise, there is a risk of engine damage.
X Pay attention to the coolant temperature display.
X If the temperature increases again, visit a qualified specialist
workshop immediately. The poly-V-belt may have torn.
X
Stop the vehicle immediately, paying attention to road and traf-
fic conditions, and switch off the engine.
X Open the bonnet.
X Check whether the poly-V-belt is torn.
If the poly-V-belt is torn:
! Do not continue driving. The engine could otherwise overheat.
X Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
If the poly-V-belt is OK:
X Wait until the display message disappears before restarting the
engine. Otherwise, there is a risk of engine damage.
X Pay attention to the coolant temperature display.
X Visit a qualified specialist workshop. ? The fan motor is faulty.
X
If the coolant temperature is less than 120 †, you can continue
driving to the nearest qualified specialist workshop.
X Avoid heavy loads on the engine as you do so, e.g. driving on
mountain roads and stop-start traffic. 268

! Do not continue driving. The engine could otherwise overheat.

If the poly-V-belt is OK:

Check eng. oil
level The engine oil level has dropped to the minimum level.

X Chec kthe oil level when next refuelling, at the latest
(Y page 323).
X If necessary, top up the engine oil (Y page 324).
X Have the engine checked at a qualified specialist workshop if
the engine oil needs topping up more often than usual. 8
Reserve fuel level The fuel level has dropped into the reserve range.
Operation of the auxiliary heating is deactivated when the fuel level
drops into the reserve range.

Refuel at the nearest filling station. C There is only a very small amount of fuel in the fuel tank.
The auxiliary heating cannot be operated.

Replace
air cleaner Vehicles with a diesel engine: the engine air filter is dirty and must
be replaced.
