instrument cluster lights up.

Vehicles with frontf oglamps: when the light
switch is in the Tposition, the rear fog-
lamp can only be switched on if the foglamps
(without dipped-beam headlamps) are
switched on.
Adjusting the headlam prange (halogen
headlamps) The headlamp range control allows you to
adjust the cone of light from the headlamps

To open: turn rotary catch :90° in the
direction of the arrow and remove side trim
panel ;.
X To close: insert side trim panel ;and turn
release knob :90° in the opposite direc-
tion to the arrow.
Tail lamps X
Switch off the lights.
X Ope nthe boot.
X Open the side trim panel (Y page 117).X
Remove the tail lamp connector
X Simultaneously press retaining lugs :in
the direction of the arrow and slightly pull
out the bulb holder with the bulbs.
X Remove the connector for LED light func-
tions from the top of the bulb holder.
X Pull the bulb holder out with the bulbs. :

Press the respective bulb :,;or= back
and turn it anti-clockwise to remove it from
the bulb holder.
X Insert the new bulb into the bulb holder and
turn it clockwise.
X Reinsert the connector for LED light func-

X Insert the bulb holder again and lock it in
place.
X Insert the tail lamp connector.

Switching the windscreen wipers on/

WARNING
The windscreen will not longer be wiped prop-
erly if the wiper blades are worn. This could
prevent you from observing the traffic condi-
tions, thereby causing an accident. Replace
the wiper blades twice a year, ideally in spring
and autumn.
! Do not operate the windscreen wipers
when the windscreen is dry, as this could
damage the wiper blades. Moreover, dust
that has collected on the windscreen can
scratch the glass if wiping takes place when
the windscreen is dry.
! If the windscreen wipers leave smears on
the windscreen after the vehicle has been
washed in an automatic car wash, this may
be due to wax or other residue. Cleant he
windscreen with washer fluid after an auto-
matic car wash. 118

X Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.
X Turn the combination switch to the corre-
sponding position.
! Intermittent wiping with rain sensor: due
to optical influences and the windscreen
becoming dirty in dry weather conditions,
the windscreen wipers may be activated
inadvertently. This could damage the wind-
screen wiper blades or scratch the wind-
screen.
For this reason, you shoul dalways switch
off the windscreen wipers in dry weather.
In the ÄorÅ position, the appropriate
wiping frequency is set automatically accord-
ing to the intensity of the rain. In the Å
position, the rain sensor is more sensitive
than in the Äposition, causing the wind-
screen wiper to wipe more frequently. Replacing the wiper blades

WARNING
The wiper arms could star tmoving and cause
an injury if you leave the windscreen wipers
switched on.
Remove the key from the ignition lock before
replacing the wiper blades.
! To avoid damaging the windscreen wiper
blades, make sure that you touch only the
wiper arm of the windscreen wiper.
! Never open the bonnet if a windscreen
wiper arm has been folded away from the
windscreen.
Never fold a windscreen wiper arm without
a wiper blade back onto the windscreen.
Hold the windscreen wiper arm firmly when
you change the wiper blade. If you release
the windscreen wiper arm without a wiper
blade and it falls onto the windscreen, the
windscreen may be damaged by the force
of the impact.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have
the wiper blades replaced by aqualified
specialist workshop, e.g. at a Mercedes-
Benz Service Centre.

Remove the key from the ignition lock or
tur nthe key to position 0(KEYLESS-GO).
X Fold the wiper arm away from the wind-
screen until it engages.
X Set the wiper blade at right angles to the
wiper arm.

Remove the wiper blade from the retaining
pin on the wiper arm in the direction of the
arrow.
Fitting the wipe rblades
X Push the new wiper blade ont othe retain-
ing pin on the wiper arm in the opposite
direction to the arrow.
Make sure that the wiper blade slides fully
onto the retaining pin on the wiper arm.
X Turn the wiper blade parallel to the wiper
arm.
X Fold the wiper arm back onto the wind-
screen. Problems with the windscreen wipers
The windscreen wipers are obstructed Leaves or snow, for example, may be
obstructing the windscreen wiper movement.
The wiper motor has been deactivated.
X
For safety reasons, you should remove the
key from the ignition lock.
or
X Switch off the engine using the Start/Stop
button and open the driver's door.
X Remove the cause of the obstruction.
X Switch the windscreen wipers back on.
The windscreen wipers are inoperative The windscreen wiper drive is malfunctioning. X
Select another wiper speed on the combi-
nation switch.
X Have the windscreen wipers checked at a
qualified specialist workshop.
The spray nozzles are misaligned The windscreen washer fluid from the spray
nozzles no longer hits the centre of the wind-
screen. The spray nozzles are misaligned.
X Have the spray nozzles adjusted at a quali-

Windscreen washer system and head-
lamp cleaning system The washer fluid reservoir is used for both the
windscreen washer system and the headlamp
cleaning system.
i Components and service products must
be matched. Mercedes-Benz recommends
that you use products tested and approved
by Mercedes-Benz. They are listed in this
Mercedes-Ben zOwner's Manual in the
appropriate section.
You can identify service products approved
by Mercedes-Ben zby th efollowing inscrip-
tions on the container: R
MB-Freigabe (e.g. MB-Freigabe 371.0)
R MB-Approval (e.g. MB-Approval 371.0)
Other labels and recommendations that
make reference to quality level or a speci-
fication according to an MB Sheet no. (e.g.
MB 371.0) are not necessarily approved by
Mercedes-Benz.

WARNING
Windscreen washer fluid is highly flammable.
Fire, naked flames and smoking are prohibi-
ted when handling washer fluid concentrate.
! Only use washer fluid concentrate which
is suitable for plastic lamp lenses. Unsuit-
able washer fluid concentrate could dam-
age the plastic lamp lenses of the head-
lamps.
! Do not use distilled or de-ionised water in
the washer fluid reservoir. Otherwise, the
level sensor may be damaged.
i Add windscreen washer concentrate, e.g.
MB SummerFit, to the washer fluid all year
round. Example: washer fluid reservoir
X
Mix the windscreen washer fluid in a con-
tainer beforehand.
X At temperatures above freezing: fill the
washer fluid reservoir with amix of water
and windscreen washer concentrate (e.g.
MB SummerFit).
X At temperatures below freezing: fill the
washer fluid reservoir with amix of water 304
