Distribute the load on the lashing eyelets
evenly.
Otherwise, vehicle occupants could be
injured by objects being thrown around if you:
R brake sharply
R change directio nsuddenly
R are involved in an accident
Please observe the loading guidelines.
Observe the following notes on securing
loads:
R secure the load using the lashing eyelets.
R do no tuse elastic straps or nets to secure
a load, as these are only intended as an
anti-slip protection for light loads.
R do not route lashing materials across sharp
edges or corners.
R pad sharp edges for protection.
There are four lashing eyelets in the luggage
compartment. :

Bag hook G
WARNING
Only hang light loads on the bag holders. Do
not use them to transport heavy, sharp-edged
or fragile objects. When braking sharply,
changing direction quickly or in the event of
an accident, the bag hooks will not secure the items sufficiently. This could result in injury to
yourselforo
thers.
! The bag hoo kcan bear a maximum load
of 3 kg. Do not use it to secure a load.
There is one bag hook on either side of the
luggage compartment. :

WARNING
The luggage compartmen tcover is not a
restraint system. Secure the load under the
luggage compartment cover by suitable
means. Make sure that the luggage compart-
ment cover is engaged securely. If luggage is
not sufficiently secured, it can be thrown over
the backrest into the passenger compart-
ment, for instance during heavy braking, sud-
den changes of direction or in the event of an
accident .You could cause an accident or
cause injury to yourself and others.
! When loading the vehicle, make sure that
you do not stack the load in the luggage
compartment higher than the lower edge of
the side windows. Do not place heavy
objects on top of the luggage compartment
cover.
! When removing and replacing the luggage
compartment cover, ensure that its end Stowage areas

caps do not scrape the light-coloured parts
of the vehicle.
The luggage compartment cove ris located
behind the rear bench seat backrest.
Extending and retracting the luggage
compartment cover X
To extend: pull the luggage compartment
cover back by grab handle :and clip it
into retainers ;on the left and right.
X To retract: unhook the luggage compart-
ment cover from retainers ;on the left
and right and guide it forwards by grab han-
dle :until it is fully retracted.
Fitting/removing the luggage compart-
ment cover X
To remove: make sure that the luggage
compartment cover is rolled up.
X Push in the end cap of luggage compart-
ment cover :in the direction of the arrow
on the right or left side using grip =.X
Push luggage compartment cover :into
opposite anchorage ;.
X Remove luggage compartment cover :
upwards.
X To fit: place luggage compartment
cover :into anchorage ;on the right or
left-hand side.
X Push in the opposite end cap of luggage
compartment cover :in the direction of
the arrow and insert luggage compartment
cover :into opposite anchorage ;. Safety net
Important safety notes G
WARNING
The safety net cannot secure heavy loads. You
should therefore always lash down the load.
You could otherwise be injured by objects
which have not been sufficiently secured
being thrown around in the event of sharp
braking, a sudden change of direction or an
accident. G
WARNING
In the event of sharp braking, a sudden
change of direction, or an accident, light loads
can be thrown about.
This could result in injury to yourselforo thers.
Therefore, if you are transporting light loads,
use the safety net.
The safety net is locate dinthe stowage space
under the luggage compartmentf loor
(Y page 253).
X Open both Velcro fastener sand remove the
safety net.
X Unroll and unfold the safety net.
The joints on the uppe rand lowe rguide rod
should engage audibly.
The corresponding lashing eyelet sfor tight-
ening the safety net are in the luggage com-
partment (Y page 251).252

Attaching and tightening the safety net

To attach and tighten: insert guide
rod :into bracket ;.
X Attach belt hook ?to the lashing eyelet
and pull down on the loos eend of the lash-
ing strap until the safety net is taut.
X After driving a short distance, check the
tension of the safety net and retighten it if
necessary.
X To loosen and detach: pull belt clamp
= up to reduce the tension in the lashing
strap.
X Unhook belt hook ?from the lashing eye-
let.
X Detach guide rod :from bracket ;.
X To stow: press the red button on the upper
and lowe rguide rod.
X Fold the safety ne tand roll it up.
X Close the two Velcro fasteners on the
safety net holder. Stowage well underneath the luggage
compartment floor
Important safety notes G
WARNING
You should always close the luggage com-
partment floor if you are transporting objects
in the stowage well under the luggage com-
partment floor.
Otherwise, you and othe rvehicle occupants
could be injured by objects being thrown around the vehicle in the event of sharp brak-
ing, a sudden change in direction or an acci-
dent.
! The maximum load capacity of the stow-
age well under the luggage compartment
floor is 25 kg.

until it engages.
Setting the height of the luggage com-
partment floor The stowage well under the luggage compart-
ment floor can be increased or decreased in
size as necessary. To do this, you can lock the
floor at two differen
theights. The upper catch
gives a flat load surface when the rear bench
seat is folded forward. X
To lift: raise luggage compartment
floor ;using handle :in the direction of
arrow =and tug it upwards sharply.
X Lower luggage compartment floor ;
again. To do this, push the luggage com- partmen
tfloor away so that it engages in
the guide on the upper level.
Luggage compartmen tfloor ;engages in
the upper position.
X To lower: raise luggage compartment
floor ;slightly using handle :and tug it
briefly towards you.
X Lower luggage compartmen tfloor ;again
slowly. Whilst doing so, press the luggage
compartmen tfloor into the lower level.

the lower position. Roof carrier
Important safety notes G
WARNING
An incorrectly secured roof carrier, ski rack or
load could become detached fro mthe vehi-
cle. These objects might then be thrown
around, and could injure you or others or
cause an accident. Follow the roof carrier/ski
rack manufacturer's installation instructions
and special instructions for use.
The roof load raises the vehicle's centre of
gravity, thereby affecting vehicle handling.
You must always observe the maximum roof
load of 75 kg .Always adapt your driving style
to the prevailing road, traffic and weather
conditions and drive with particular care if the
roof is laden.
! Mercedes-Ben zrecommends that you
only use roof carriers that have been tested
and approved for Mercedes-Benzv ehicles.
This helps to preven tdamage to the vehi-
cle.
Positio nthe load on the roof carrier in such
a way that the vehicle will not sustain dam-
age even when it is in motion.
Ensure that, depending on the vehicle's
equipment, you can raise the panorama
sliding sunroof fully and open the tailgate
fully when the roof carrier is fitted. 254

Cup holders
Important safety notes G
WARNING
Do not place any objects in the cup holder
while the vehicle is in motion. Otherwise, vehi-
cle occupants could be injured by objects
being thrown around if you:
R brake sharply
R change direction suddenly
R are involved in an accident
Only use the cup holders for containers of a
suitable size and which have lids. The drinks
could otherwise spill.
Cup holders should not be used for hot drinks.
You may otherwise scald yourself. G
WARNING
Do not transport any heavy, sharp-edged or
fragile bottles in the stowag ecompartments. In the event of an accident, the stowage com-
partments cannot secure the bottles ade-
quately. You and/or other vehicle occupants
could be injured.
The stowage compartments in the doors pro-
vide space for bottles:
R front: capacity up to 1.5 l
R rear: capacity up to 0.5 l
The bottles are neither secured nor prevented
from tipping over. Therefore, do not place any
open drink containers in the stowage com-
partments.
Cup holder in the front centre console The cup holder and the rubber mat under-
neath can be removed for cleaning. Clean it
with clean, lukewarm water only.

To remove: carefully pull in the upper sec-
tions of cup holders :on the driver's and
front-passenger sides until they release.
X Lift the cup holder upwards ;until it can
be removed. Features

To fit: insert the cup holde rinto lateral
curved sections ;in the stowage com-
partment. Insert the cup holde rso that the
wedge of the upper section of cup
holder :faces forwards.
X Press the cup holder downwards until it
engages on the right and left-hand sides.

Do not sit on or support your body weight
on the rear seat armrest when it is folded
down, as you could otherwise damage it.
! Close the cup holder before folding the
rear seat armrest up. Otherwise, the cup
holder could be damaged. X
Fold down the rear seat armrest.
X To open: press the front of cup holder :

X To close: slide the cup holder back until it

Overview G
WARNING
Keep the vanity mirrors in the sun visors cov-
ered while driving. You could otherwise be
dazzled, which may impair your view of traffic
conditions and as a result could cause an
accident. :

not heat resistant. Before placing lit ciga-
rettes in the ashtray, make sure that the
ashtray is properly engaged. Otherwise, the

Vsockets
Points to observe before use X
Turn the key to position 1in the ignition
lock.
The sockets can be used for accessories with
a maximum current draw of 180 W (15A).
Accessories include such items as lamps, or
chargers for mobile phones.
If you use the sockets for long periods when
the engine is switched off ,the battery may
discharge.
i An emergency cut-offe nsures thatthe on-
board voltage does not drop too low. If the Features

on-board voltage is too low, the power to
the sockets is automatically cut. This
ensures that there is sufficient power to
start the engine.

cations equipment while the vehicle is in
motion, you must only do so if the traffic sit-
uation permits. Otherwise, you could be dis-
tracted from the traffic conditions, cause an
