When driving
CAUTION
nOff-road vehicle precautions
Always observe the following precautions to minimize the risk of death or serious
injury or damage to your vehicle:
lIn a rollover crash, an unbelted person is significantly more likely to die than a
person wearing a seat belt. Therefore, the driver and all passengers should fasten
their seat belts whenever the vehicle is moving.
lAvoid sharp turns or abrupt maneuvers, if at all possible.
Failure to operate this vehicle correctly may result in loss of control or vehicle roll-
over causing death or serious injury.
lLoading cargo on the roof luggage carrier will make the center of the vehicle
gravity higher. Avoid high speeds, sudden starts, sharp turns, sudden braking or
abrupt maneuvers, otherwise it may result in loss of control or vehicle rollover
due to failure to operate this vehicle correctly.
lAlways slow down in gusty crosswinds. Because of its profile and higher center of
gravity, your vehicle is more sensitive to side winds than an ordinary passenger
car. Slowing down will allow you to have better control.
lDo not drive horizontally across steep slopes. Driving straight up or straight down
is preferred. Your vehicle (or any similar off-road vehicle) can tip over sideways
much more easily than forward or backward.

CAUTION
nRoof luggage carrier precautions
To use the roof rails as a roof luggage carrier, you must fit the roof rails with two or
more genuine Lexus cross rails or their equivalent.
When you load cargo on the roof luggage carrier, observe the following:
lBefore driving, make sure the cargo is securely fastened on the roof luggage car-
rier.
lLoading cargo on the roof luggage carrier will make the center of gravity of the
vehicle higher. Avoid high speeds, sudden starts, sharp turns, sudden braking or
abrupt maneuvers, otherwise the result may be a loss of control or vehicle roll-
over due to failure to operate this vehicle correctly and result in death or serious
injury.
lIf driving for a long distances, on rough roads, or at high speeds, stop the vehicle
now and then during the trip to make sure the cargo remains in its place.
lDo not exceed 165 lb. (75 kg) cargo weight on the roof luggage carrier.
lTo reduce wind noise when there is no luggage loaded on the roof luggage car-
rier, move the front cross rail to the front-most position and the rear cross rail to
the rearmost position.
NOTICE
nWhen loading cargo
Be careful not to scratch the surface of the moon roof.
lPlace the cargo so that its weight is distrib-
uted evenly between the front and rear
axles.
lIf loading long or wide cargo, never exceed
the vehicle’s overall length or width.

nWhen the battery is disconnected
All preset stations are erased.
nReception sensitivity
lCargo loaded on the roof luggage carrier, especially metal objects, may
adversely affect the reception of XM® Satellite Radio (type A and B).
lIt is difficult to maintain perfect radio reception at all times due to the continually
changing position of the antenna, differences in signal strength and surrounding
objects, such as trains and transmitters.
lThe radio antenna is mounted inside the rear spoiler and the rear window. To
maintain clear radio reception, do not attach metallic window tinting or other
metallic objects to the antenna wire mounted inside the rear window.
nReceiving XM® Satellite Radio (type A and B)
An XM® Satellite Radio is a tuner designed exclusively to receive broadcasts pro-
vided under a separate subscription. Availability is limited to the 48 contiguous
states and 10 Canadian provinces.

Interior features
nConditions unfavorable to correct operation
The compass may not show the correct direction in the following conditions:
lThe vehicle is stopped immediately after turning.
lThe vehicle is on an inclined surface.
lThe vehicle is in a place where the earth's magnetic field is subject to interfer-
ence by artificial magnetic fields (underground car park/parking lot, under a
steel tower, between buildings, roof car park/parking lot, near an intersection,
near a large vehicle, etc.).
lThe vehicle has become magnetized. (There is a magnet or metal object near
the inside rear view mirror.)
lThe battery has been disconnected.
lA door is open.
CAUTION
nWhile driving the vehicle
Do not adjust the display. Adjust the display only when the vehicle is stopped.
nWhen doing the circling calibration
Secure a wide space, and watch out for people and vehicles in the vicinity. Do not
violate any local traffic rules while performing circling calibration.
NOTICE
nTo avoid compass malfunctions
Do not place magnets or any metal objects near the inside rear view mirror.
Doing this may cause the compass sensor malfunction.
nTo ensure normal operation of the compass
lDo not perform a circling calibration of the compass in a place where the earth's
magnetic field is subject to interference by artificial magnetic fields.
lDuring calibration, do not operate electric systems (moon roof, power windows,
etc.) as they may interfere with the calibration.

When trouble arises

5-2. Steps to take in an emergency
If the electronic key does not operate properly
Locking and unlocking the doors and key linked functions
Use the mechanical key (→P. 2 7 )
in order to perform the following
operations (driver’s door only):
Locks all the doors
Closes the windows and moon
roof (turn and hold)
Unlocks the door
Turning the key rearward unlocks
the driver's door. Turning the key
once again unlocks the other
doors.
Opens the windows and moon
roof (turn and hold)
If communication between the electronic key and vehicle is interrupted
(→P. 36) or the electronic key cannot be used because the battery is
depleted, the smart access system with push-button start and wireless
remote control cannot be used. In such cases, the doors can be opened or
the engine can be started by following the procedure below.
