Hybrid warning message
A message is automatically displayed when a malfunction occurs
in the hybrid system or an improper operation is attempted.
If a warning message is shown
on the multi-information dis-
play, read the message and fol-
low the instructions.

If a warning light comes on, a warning message is displayed, or the 12-volt
battery is disconnected
The hybrid system may not start. In that case, try to start the system again. If
the “READY” indicator does not come on, contact any authorized Lexus
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
Running out of fuel
When the vehicle has run out of fuel and the hybrid system cannot be
started, refuel the vehicle with at least enough gasoline to make the low fuel
level warning light (P. 562) go off. If there is only a small amount of fuel,
the hybrid system may not be able to start. (The minimum amount of fuel to
add to make the low fuel level warning light go out is about 11.8 L [3.1 gal.,
2.6 Imp.gal.], when the vehicle is on a level surface. This value may vary
when the vehicle is on a slope.)

Hybrid vehicle driving tips
For economical and ecological driving, pay attention to the following
points:
Using Eco drive mode
When using Eco drive mode, the torque corresponding to the accel-
erator pedal depression amount can be generated more smoothly
than it is in normal conditions. In addition, the operation of the air
conditioning system (heating/cooling) will be minimized, improv-
ing the fuel economy.

Use of Hybrid System Indicator
The Eco-friendly driving is possible by keeping the indicate of
Hybrid System Indicator within Eco area. (P. 219)
When braking the vehicle
Make sure to operate the brakes gently and in good time. A greater
amount of electrical energy can be retained when slowing down.
Delays
Repeated acceleration and deceleration, as well as long waits at
traffic lights, will lead to bad fuel consumption. Check traffic
reports before leaving and avoid delays as much as possible. When
encountering a delay, gently release the brake pedal to allow the
vehicle to move forward slightly while avoiding overuse of the
accelerator pedal. Doing so can help control excessive gasoline
consumption.
Highway driving
Control your speed and keep at a constant speed. Also, before stop-
ping at a toll booth or similar, allow plenty of time to release the

Precautions for handling the card key
Do not apply excess force when inserting the mechanical key into the card
key. Doing so may damage the card key.
If the battery or card key terminals get wet, the battery may corrode and
the card key may stop working.
If the key is dropped into water, or if drinking water etc. is spilled on the
key, immediately remove the battery cover and wipe the battery and ter-
minals. (To remove the battery cover, lightly grasp and pull it.) If the bat-
tery is corroded, have any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another
duly qualified and equipped professional replace the battery.
Do not crush the battery cover or use a screwdriver to remove the battery
cover. Forcibly removing the battery cover may bend or damage the key.
If the battery cover is frequently removed, the battery cover may become
loose.
When installing the battery, make sure to check the direction of the bat-
tery.
Installing the battery in the wrong direction may cause the battery to
deplete rapidly.
The surface of the card key may be damaged, or its coating may peel off
in the following situations:
• The card key is carried together with hard objects, such as coins and
keys.
• The card key is scraped with a sharp object, such as the tip of a
mechanical pencil.
• The surface of the card key is wiped with thinner or benzene.
