Pull the insertion key out of the
kit.
Place the kit with the bottom
facing upward.
Peel off the label, and push in
the insertion key until a click is
heard.

• If the needle of the air pres-
sure gauge reaches the red
zone (450 kPa [4.5 kgf/cm
2
or bar, 65 psi] or more),
there may be a malfunction
in the tire or in the kit itself.
Stop operation immediately.
• If the tire inflation pressure
is still lower than the recom-
mended level after inflation
for 10 minutes with the
switch on, the tire is too
damaged to be repaired.
Turn the compressor switch
off and contact any autho-
rized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped pro-
fessional.
• If the tire inflation pressure
exceeds the recommended
level, let out some air to
adjust the tire inflation pres-
sure.

Disconnect the hose from the valve on the tire and then pull
out the power plug from the power outlet socket.
To spread the liquid sealant evenly within the tire, immedi-
ately drive for about 5 km (3 miles).STEP 12

Emergency start function
When the hybrid system does not start, the following steps can be
used as an interim measure to start the hybrid system if the
“POWER” switch is functioning normally:
Set the parking brake.
Turn the “POWER” switch to ACCESSORY mode.
Press and hold the “POWER” switch for about 15 seconds
while depressing the brake pedal firmly.
Even if the hybrid system can be started using the above steps, the
system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by any
authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
The interior lights and headlights do not turn on, or the horn
does not sound.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
One or both of the 12-volt battery terminals may be discon-
nected.
The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (P. 496)
Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professional if the problem cannot be
repaired, or if repair procedures are unknown.

Changing “POWER” switch modes and starting the hybrid system
Depress the brake pedal.
Touch the Lexus emblem side
of the electronic key to the
“POWER” switch.
If any of the doors is opened or
closed while the key is being
touched to the switch, an alarm
will sound to indicate that the
start function cannot detect the
electronic key.
To change “POWER” switch modes: Within 10 seconds of
the buzzer sounding, release the brake pedal and press the
“POWER” switch. Modes can be changed each time the
switch is pressed. (P. 197)
To start the hybrid system: Press the “POWER” switch
within 10 seconds of the buzzer sounding, keeping the
brake pedal depressed.
In the event that the hybrid system still cannot be operated, contact
any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified
and equipped professional.

Stopping the hybrid system
Set the parking brake, shift the shift position to P and press the “POWER”
switch as you normally do when stopping the hybrid system.
Replacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary measure, it is recommended that the
electronic key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is depleted.

Alarm
Using the mechanical key to lock the doors will not set the alarm system.
If a door is unlocked using the mechanical key when the alarm system is set,
the alarm may be triggered.

Start the engine of the second vehicle. Increase the
engine speed slightly and maintain at that level for
approximately 5 minutes to recharge the battery of your
vehicle.
Open and close any of the doors of your vehicle with the
“POWER” switch off.
Maintain the engine speed of the second vehicle and start
the hybrid system of your vehicle by turning the
“POWER” switch to ON mode.
Make sure the “READY” indicator light comes on. If the
indicator light does not come on, contact any authorized
Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
Once the hybrid system has started, remove the jumper
cables in the exact reverse order from which they were
connected.
To install the engine cover, conduct the removal proce-
dure in reverse. After installing, check that the fixed pins
are inserted securely.
Once the hybrid system starts, have the vehicle inspected at any

CAUTION
To prevent an accident or injury when inspecting under the hood of your
vehicle
If steam is seen coming from under the hood, do not open the hood until
the steam has subsided. The engine compartment may be very hot, caus-
ing serious injuries such as burns.
Check that the indicator on the “POWER” switch and the “READY” indi-
cator are off.
For vehicles with a hybrid system, there are times when the gasoline
engine automatically starts to run or the cooling fans suddenly start to
operate. Do not touch or approach the rotating parts of the belt or fans.
Doing so may lead to fingers, clothes or tools getting caught, resulting in
injury.
Do not loosen the coolant reservoir cap while the hybrid system and radi-
ator are hot.
Serious injury, such as burns, may result from hot coolant and steam
released under pressure.
NOTICE
When adding engine/power control unit coolant
Wait until the hybrid system has cooled down before adding engine/power
control unit coolant.
When adding coolant, do so slowly. Adding cool coolant to a hot hybrid sys-
tem too quickly can cause damage to the hybrid system.

If your vehicle has to be stopped in an emergency
Only in an emergency, such as if it becomes impossible to stop the
vehicle in the normal way, stop the vehicle using the following proce-
dure:
Steadily step on the brake pedal with both feet and firmly
depress it.
Do not pump the brake pedal repeatedly as this will increase
the effort required to slow the vehicle.
Shift the shift position to N.
If the shift position is shifted to N
After slowing down, stop the vehicle in a safe place by
the road.
Stop the hybrid system.
If the shift position cannot be shifted to N
Keep depressing the brake pedal with both feet to reduce
vehicle speed as much as possible.
To stop the hybrid system,
press and hold the “POWER”
switch for 3 consecutive sec-
onds or more, or press it
briefly 3 times or more in
succession.
