window travel is stopped and the window is opened slightly.

The moon roof can be operated when

Operating the moon roof after turning the hybrid system off
The moon roof can be operated for approximately 43 seconds even after the
“POWER” switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off. It cannot,
however, be operated once either front door is opened.
Jam protection function
If an object is detected between the moon roof and the frame while the
moon roof is closing or tilting down, travel is stopped and the moon roof
opens slightly.
Sunshade
The sunshade can be opened and closed manually. However, the sunshade
will open automatically to slightly before the fully open position when the
moon roof is opened.

CAUTION
Do not shift the shift position to P while the vehicle is moving.
Doing so can damage the transmission and may result in a loss of vehicle
control.
Do not shift the shift position to R while the vehicle is moving forward.
Doing so can damage the transmission and may result in a loss of vehicle
control.
Do not shift the shift position to D while the vehicle is moving backward.
Doing so can damage the transmission and may result in a loss of vehicle
control.
Moving the shift position to N while the vehicle is moving will disengage
the hybrid system. Engine braking is not available with the hybrid system
disengaged.
During normal driving, do not turn off the hybrid system. Turning the
hybrid system off while driving will not cause loss of steering or braking
control, but the power assist to these systems will be lost. This will make
it more difficult to steer and brake, so you should pull over and stop the
vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so. However, in the event of an emer-
gency, such as if it becomes impossible to stop the vehicle in the normal
way: P. 6 3 4
Use engine braking (shift position B instead of shift position D) to main-
tain a safe speed when driving down a steep hill.
Using the brakes continuously may cause the brakes to overheat and lose
effectiveness. (P. 204)
Do not adjust the positions of the steering wheel, the seat, or the inside or
outside rear view mirrors while driving.
Doing so may result in a loss of vehicle control that can cause accidents,
resulting in death or serious injury.
Always check that all passengers’ arms, heads or other parts of their body
are not outside the vehicle, as this may result in death or serious injury.

Stopping the hybrid system
Stop the vehicle completely.
Set the parking brake. (P. 214)
Shift the shift position to P. (P. 2 0 7 )
Check that the shift position indicator shows P. (P. 204)
Press the “POWER” switch.
The hybrid system will stop, and the meter display will be
extinguished (the shift position indicator will be extinguished
a few seconds after the meter display).
Slowly release the brake pedal and check that the indica-
tor on the “POWER” switch is off.
Changing “POWER” switch modes
Modes can be changed by pressing the “POWER” switch with
the brake pedal released. (The mode changes each time the
switch is pressed.)

Auto power off function
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY or ON mode (the hybrid system is not
operating) for more than an hour with the shift position in P, the “POWER”
switch will automatically turn off. However, this function cannot entirely
prevent the 12-volt battery from discharging. Do not leave the vehicle with
the “POWER” switch in ACCESSORY or ON mode for long periods of
time when the hybrid system is not operating.

CAUTION
When starting the hybrid system
Always start the hybrid system while sitting in the driver’s seat. Do not
depress the accelerator pedal while starting the hybrid system under any cir-
cumstances.
Doing so may cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
Stopping the hybrid system in an emergency
If you want to stop the hybrid system in an emergency while driving the
vehicle, press and hold the “POWER” switch for more than 3 seconds, or
press it briefly 3 times or more in succession.
However, do not touch the “POWER” switch while driving except in an
emergency. Turning the hybrid system off while driving will not cause loss
of steering or braking control, but the power assist to these systems will be
lost. This will make it more difficult to steer and brake, so you should pull
over and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
NOTICE
To prevent 12-volt battery discharge
Do not leave the “POWER” switch in ACCESSORY or ON mode for long
periods of time without the hybrid system on.
If the hybrid system is off, but the indicator on the “POWER” switch is
illuminated, this indicates that the “POWER” switch is still turned on.
When exiting the vehicle, always check that the “POWER” switch is off.
Symptoms indicating a malfunction with the “POWER” switch
If the “POWER” switch seems to be operating somewhat differently than
usual, such as the switch sticking slightly, there may be a malfunction. Con-
tact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional immediately.

Before recharging
When recharging, the 12-volt battery produces hydrogen gas which is flam-
mable and explosive. Therefore, observe the following precautions before
recharging:
If recharging with the 12-volt battery installed on the vehicle, be sure to
disconnect the ground cable.
Make sure the power switch on the charger is off when connecting and
disconnecting the charger cables to the 12-volt battery.
After recharging/reconnecting the 12-volt battery
Unlocking the doors using the smart entry & start system may not be
possible immediately after reconnecting the 12-volt battery. If this hap-
pens, use the wireless remote control or the mechanical key to lock/
unlock the doors.
Start the hybrid system with the “POWER” switch in ACCESSORY
mode. The hybrid system may not start with the “POWER” switch
turned OFF. However, the hybrid system will operate normally from the
second attempt.
The “POWER” switch mode is recorded by the vehicle. If the battery is
reconnected, the vehicle will return the “POWER” switch mode to the
status it was in before the battery was disconnected. Make sure to turn
off the power before disconnect the battery. Take extra care when con-
necting the battery if the “POWER” switch mode prior to discharge is
unknown.
Restart the hybrid system, depress the brake pedal, and confirm that it is
possible to shift into each shift position.
If the system will not start even after multiple attempts at all methods above,
contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified
and equipped professional.

Never recharge the 12-volt battery while the hybrid system is operating.
Also, be sure all accessories are turned off.
Do not disconnect the negative (-) termi-
nal on the body side as shown. The dis-
connected negative (-) terminal may
touch the positive (+) terminal, which
may cause a short and result in death or
serious injury.
