o Never move the gear selector lever
from "P" or "N" to any other position with the accelerator pedal de- pressed.
o Never move the gear selector lever into "P" when the vehicle is in mo-tion.
o Be sure the car is completely stopped before you attempt to shift into "R" or"D".
o Never take the car out of gear and coast down a hill. This may be ex-tremely hazardous. Always leave the car in gear when moving.
o Do not "ride" the brakes. This can cause them to overheat and mal-function. Instead, when you are driv-ing down a long hill, slow down and shift to a lower gear. When you do this, engine braking will help slowthe car.
o Slow down before shifting to a lower
gear. Otherwise, the lower gear maynot be engaged.
o Always use the hand brake. Do not
depend on placing the transaxle in"P" to keep the car from moving. o Exercise extreme caution when driv-
ing on a slippery surface. Be espe-cially careful when braking, acceler- ating or shifting gears. On a slippery surface, an abrupt change in ve-hicle speed can cause the drive wheels to lose traction and the ve- hicle to go out of control.
o Optimum vehicle performance and economy is obtained by smoothlydepressing and releasing the accel-erator pedal.
o Turn the overdrive switch on for good
fuel economy and smooth driving. Ifengine braking is needed in the "D" range or if repeated upshifting and downshifting between the 3rd and4th gear is needed when climbing a gentle slope, it is recommended that the overdrive switch be turned off.Turn the overdrive switch back on immediately afterward.
WARNING:
o Avoid high cornering speeds.
o Do not make quick steering wheel movements, such as sharp lane changes or fast, sharp turns. o Always wear your seat belts.
In a collision crash, an unbelted person is significantly more likely to die than a person wearing a seat belt.
o The risk of rollover is greatly in- creased if you lose control ofyour vehicle at highway speeds.
o Loss of control often occurs if two or more wheels drop off theroadway and the driver oversteersto reenter the roadway.
o In the event your vehicle leaves
the roadway, do not steer sharply. Instead, slow down before pull- ing back into the travel lanes.
o Never exceed posted speed limits.
o If your vehicle becomes stuck in snow, mud, sand, etc., then you may attempt to rock the vehicle free by moving it forward and back- ward. Do not attempt this proce-dure if people or objects are any- where near the vehicle. During the rocking operation the vehicle maysuddenly move forward of back- ward as it becomes unstuck, caus- ing injury or damage to nearbypeople or objects.

The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) system is designed to stabilise thevehicle during cornering manoeuvres. ESP checks where you are steering and where the vehicle is actually going.ESP applies the brakes at individual wheels and intervenes in the engine management system to stabilise thevehicle. The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) system is an electronic system de- signed to help the driver maintain ve- hicle control under adverse conditions.It is not a substitute for safe driving practices.
!WARNING:
Your ABS (ESP) will not prevent accidents due to improper or dan- gerous driving manoeuvres. Even though vehicle control is improved during emergency braking, always maintain a safe distance between you and objects ahead. Vehicle speeds should always be reduced during extreme road conditions. The braking distance for cars equipped
with an anti-lock braking system (the
electronic stability program) may be
longer than for those without it in the following road conditions. These roads should be driven at reduced speeds.
o Rough, gravel or snow-covered
roads.
o With tyre chains installed.
o On roads where the road surface is pitted or has different surface height.
The safety features of an ABS (ESP) equipped vehicle should not be testedby high speed driving or cornering.This could endanger the safety of yourself or others.
C120A01FC-DAT(If Installed) The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is designed to prevent wheel lock-up dur-ing sudden braking or on hazardous road surfaces. The ABS control module monitors the wheel speed and controlsthe pressure applied to each brake. Thus, in emergency situations or on slick roads, ABS will increase vehiclecontrol during braking. NOTE:
o A click sound may be heard in the
engine compartment when the ve- hicle begins to move after the en-gine is started. These conditionsare normal and indicate that theanti-lock brake system (ElectronicStability Program) is functioning properly.
o During ABS (ESP) operation, a slight pulsation may be felt in the brake pedal when the brakes areapplied. Also, a noise may be heardin the engine compartment while braking. These conditions are nor- mal and indicate that the anti-lockbrake system (Electronic Stability Program) is functioning properly.

C310B01JM-AAT ESP ON/OFF Mode When the ESP is operating, the ESP indicator in the instrument cluster willblink. If you turn the system off by pressing the ESP switch, the ESP-OFF indica-tor will come on and stay on. In the ESP-OFF mode, the stability control will be deactivated. Adjust your drivingaccordingly. To turn the system back on, press the switch again. The ESP- OFF indicator should go off. NOTE: The ESP mode will automatically be turned ON after the engine is turnedoff and restarted. C310D01JM-DAT Indicators and Warning The indicators should illuminate when the ignition key is turned to ON orSTART but should go out after three seconds. If the indicators do not illuminate, or theESP or ESP-OFF indicator does not go out after 3 seconds, have the vehicle checked by an authorised dealer. Should there be any unusual conditions in the device while driving, ESP-OFFindicator illuminates as a warning. If ESP-OFF indicator illuminates, pull your car to a safe place and stop theengine. Then, start the engine again to check if the ESP-OFF indicator goes out. If the indicator remains lit even after the engine has been started, have your carchecked by an authorised Hyundai dealer.

CAUTION:
Driving with varying tyre or wheel size may cause the ESP system tomalfunction. When replacing tyres, make sure they are the same size as your original tyres.!
Factors including speed, road condi- tions and driver steering input can allaffect whether ESP will be effective in preventing a loss of control. It is still your responsibility to drive and cornerat reasonable speeds and to leave a sufficient margin of safety.
WARNING:
Electronic stability program is only a driving aid; all normal precautions for driving in bad weather and on slippery road surfaces should beobserved.

C160K01A-DAT Carry Emergency Equipment Depending on the severity of the weather where you drive your car, you should carry appropriate emergency equipment. Some of the items youmay want to carry include tyre chains, tow straps or chains, flashlight, emer- gency flares, sand, a shovel, jumpercables, a window scraper, gloves, ground cloth, overalls, a blanket, etc.
C160J01A-AAT Don't Let Ice and Snow Accumu- late Underneath Under some conditions, snow and ice can build up under the fenders andinterfere with the steering. When driv- ing in severe winter conditions where this may happen, you should periodi-cally check underneath the car to be sure the movement of the front wheels and the steering components are notobstructed.
C160G01A-DAT To Keep Locks from Freezing To keep the locks from freezing, squirt an approved de-icer fluid or glycerineinto the key opening. If a lock is cov- ered with ice, squirt it with an approved de-icing fluid to remove the ice. If thelock is frozen internally, you may be able to thaw it out by using a heated key. Handle the heated key with careto avoid injury. NOTE: The proper temperature for using the immobiliser key is from -40°C to 80°C. If you heat the immobiliser key over 80°C to open a frozen lock, itmay cause damage to the transpon- der in its head. C160H01A-DAT Use Approved Anti-Freeze in Window Washer System To keep the water in the window washer system from freezing, add an approvedanti-freeze solution in accordance with instructions on the container. Window washer anti-freeze is available fromHyundai dealers and most auto parts outlets. Do not use engine coolant or other types of anti-freeze as thesemay damage the paint finish. C160I01A-DAT Don't Let Your Hand Brake Freeze Under some conditions your hand brake can freeze in the engaged posi- tion. This is most likely to happen when there is an accumulation of snow or icearound or near the rear brakes or if the brakes are wet. If there is a risk the hand brake may freeze, apply it onlytemporarily while you put the gear selector lever in "P" (automatic) or in first or reverse gear (manual transaxle)and block the rear wheels so the car cannot roll. Then release the hand brake.

8. When parking your car and trailer,especially on a hill, be sure to follow all the normal precautions. Turn your front wheel into the curb, set the hand brake firmly, and put thetransaxle in 1st or Reverse (manual) or Park (automatic). In addition, place wheel chocks at each of thetrailer's tyres.
9. If the trailer has electric brakes,
drive your vehicle with the trailerattached, and then apply the trailer brakes by hand. This test confirms the operation of the trailer brakesand also checks your electrical con- nection at the same time.
10. During your trip, check occasionally to be sure that the load is secure,and that the lights and any trailer brakes are still working.
11.Avoid jerky starts, sudden accel- eration or sudden stops.
12.Avoid sharp turns and rapid lane changes.
13.Avoid holding the brake pedal down
too long or too frequently. This couldcause the brakes to overheat, re- sulting in reduced braking efficiency.

1. Before towing, check towbar and
safety chain connections as well as proper operation of the trailer run- ning lights, brake lights, and turn signals.
2. Always drive your vehicle at a mod- erate speed (Less than 100 km/h).
3. Trailer towing requires more fuel than normal conditions.
4. To maintain engine braking effi-
ciency and electrical charging per-formance, do not use fifth gear (manual transaxle) or overdrive (au- tomatic transaxle).
5. Always secure items in the trailer to prevent load shift while driving.
6. Check the condition and air pres- sure of all tyres on the trailer and your car. Low tyre pressure can seriously affect the handling. Alsocheck the spare tyre.
7. The vehicle/trailer combination is
more affected by crosswind andbuffeting. When being passed by a large vehicle, keep a constant speed and steer straight ahead. If there istoo much wind buffeting, slow down to get out of the other vehicle's air turbulence.

8. Lower the vehicle to the ground by using the wheel brace and tighten the nuts fully by using the wheel brace. 10. Check and adjust the air pressure
ensuring that the valve cap is re-placed afterwards.
11. Return the jack, tool bag and spare wheel to the boot.
12. As soon as possible, check the wheel nut torque and adjust to the specification listed below:
Wheel nut tightening torque Steel wheel & aluminium alloy wheel: 900 ~ 1,100 kg.cm (65 ~ 80 lb.ft)
7. Replace the roadwheel, fit the wheel
nuts, with the tapered end towards the wheel and tighten.

IF YOUR VEHICLE MUST BE TOWED
D080A01O-GAT If your vehicle has to be towed, it should be done by your Hyundai dealer or a commercial tow truck service. This will help assure that your vehicle is notdamaged in towing. Also, professionals are generally aware of local laws gov- erning towing. In any case, rather thanrisk damage to your car, it is suggested that you show this information to the tow truck operator. Be sure that a safetychain system is used and that all local laws are observed. It is recommended that your vehicle betowed with a wheel lift and dollies or flatbed equipment with all the wheels off the ground.
! CAUTION:
o Your vehicle can be damaged if towed incorrectly!
o Be sure the transaxle is in neutral.
o When the engine will not start, be sure the steering is unlocked byplacing the key in the "ACC" posi-tion.
9. Reinstall wheel cap by fitting the
boss of the wheel cap in the grooveof the wheel, hitting the centre of the wheel cap with your hand. (If Installed)

o Automatic Transaxle:
Be sure to use a towing dolly under the front wheels.
CAUTION:
A vehicle with an automatic transaxle should never be towed from the rear with the front wheels on the ground.This can cause serious damage to the transaxle.
3) It is recommended that your vehicle be towed with all the wheels off the ground.
D080D01MC-DAT EMERGENCY TOWING For emergency towing when no com- mercial tow vehicle is available. Do not attempt to tow your vehicle in this manner on any unpaved surface.
OMC045016 This could result in serious damage to your car.Nor should towing be attempted if the wheels, drive train, axles, steering or brakes are damaged. Before towing, besure the transaxle is in neutral and the key is in "ACC" (with the engine off) or in the "ON" position (with the enginerunning). A driver must be in the towed car to steer it and operate the brakes. NOTE: Before towing, check the level of the automatic transaxle fluid. If it is be- low the "HOT" range on the dipstick, add fluid. If you cannot add fluid, atowing dolly must be used.

CAUTION
It should be tightened firmly with your fingers until there is no more play in the towing hole. Towing hookis located in the jack case on the spare tyre.
! (3) Attach a tow cable, chain or strap to
the towing hook on the front bumper.
NOTE: Place the towing hook & towing hole cover in its original position when not in use.
(2) Take out the towing hook from the jack case. To mount the towing hook, rotate it clockwise.

!CAUTION: - Automatic Transaxle
o If the car is being towed with all four wheels on the ground, it can be towed only from the front. Be sure that the transaxle is in neu- tral. Be sure the steering is un-locked by placing the ignition switch in the ACC position. A driver must be in the towed vehicle tooperate the steering and brakes.
o To avoid serious damage to the
automatic transaxle, limit the ve-hicle speed to 15 km/h (10 mph) and drive less than 1.5 km (1 mile) when towing.
