DRIVING
HILL START ASSIST
System which holds your vehicle tem-
porarily (approximately 2 seconds)
when starting on a slope, the time it
takes to move your foot from the brake
pedal to the accelerator pedal.
This function is only active when:
- the vehicle is completely station-
ary, with your foot on the brake
pedal,
- in particular conditions on a
slope,
- with the driver’s door closed.
The hill start assist cannot be deac-
tivated.
Operation
Operating fault
If a malfunction of the system oc-
curs, these warning lamps come
on. Contact a CITROËN dealer or a
qualifi ed workshop to have the sys-
tem checked.
On an ascending slope, with the
vehicle stationary, the vehicle is
held for a brief moment when you
release the brake pedal:
- provided you are in fi rst gear or
neutral on a manual gearbox,
- provided you are in position A
or M
with the electronic gearbox
system,
- provided you are in position D
or
M
on an automatic gearbox.
On a descending slope, with the
vehicle stationary and reverse
gear engaged, the vehicle is held
momentarily when you release
the brake pedal.
Do not exit the vehicle while
it is being held in the hill
start assist phase.
If you need to exit the ve-
hicle with the engine running, man-
ually apply the parking brake and
ensure that the warning lamp P
(red) in the instrument panel is on
(not fl ashing).

DRIVING
Acceleration
For optimum acceleration (e.g. to
overtake another vehicle), simply
press the pedal beyond the point of
resistance at the end of its travel, by
pressing down fi rmly.
Vehicle stationary, with the
engine running
In the event of a prolonged stop with
the engine running, the gearbox
changes automatically to neutral N
.
Stopping the vehicle
Before stopping the engine, you can
choose:
)
to leave the vehicle in neutral;
move the gear lever to position N
.
)
to leave the vehicle with a gear
engaged ( R
, A
or M
); place the
gear lever in the chosen position
prior to stopping the engine. In
this case, the vehicle cannot be
moved.
In all cases, it is essential to apply
the parking brake. Check that the
parking brake warning lamp is on in
the instrument panel.
Do not use the accelera-
tor to hold your vehicle on
a gradient. Use either the
brake pedal or the parking
brake.
Before doing anything in the en-
gine compartment, check that the
gear lever is in neutral N
. The paddles cannot be used to se-
lect neutral or reverse gear, or to exit
reverse gear.
- If the vehicle stops or reduces
speed (for example when ap-
proaching a stop sign), the gear-
box changes down automatically,
to fi rst gear if needed.
- In manual mode, it is not neces-
sary to release the accelerator
completely during gear changes.
- A request to change gear is ac-
cepted only if the engine speed
permits it.
- For safety reasons, depending
on the engine speed, a change
down may be performed auto-
matically.
In situations of high engine
speeds (heavy accelera-
tion), a change up will not
occur unless the driver op-
erates the paddle.

DRIVING
The Stop & Start system puts the en-
gine temporarily into standby - STOP
mode - during stops in the traffi c (red
lights, traffi c jams, or other...). The en-
gine restarts automatically - START
mode - as soon as you want to move
off. The restart takes place instantly,
quickly and silently.
Perfect for urban use, the Stop &
Start system reduces fuel consump-
tion and exhaust emissions as well
as the noise level when stationary.
Operation
Going into engine STOP mode
The "ECO"
warning lamp comes
on in the instrument panel and
the engine goes into standby:
- with the electronic gearbox
system
, at speeds below 4 mph
(6 km/h), press the brake pedal or
put the gear lever in position N
. If your vehicle is fi tted with the sys-
tem, a time counter calculates the
sum of the periods in STOP mode
during a journey. It rests itself to zero
every time the ignition is switched on
with the key.
Special cases: STOP mode not
available
Never refuel with the en-
gine in STOP mode; you
must switch off the ignition
with the key.
For your comfort, during parking
maoeuvres, STOP mode is not
available for a few seconds after
coming out of reverse gear.
STOP mode does not affect the
functionality of the vehicle, such as
for example, braking, power steer-
ing... STOP mode is not invoked
when:
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fas-
tened,
- the vehicle has not exceeded
6 mph (10 km/h) since the last
engine start using the key,
- the electric parking brake is ap-
plied or being applied,
- the engine is needed to maintain
a comfortable temperature in the
passenger compartment,
- demisting is active,
- some special conditions (battery
charge, engine temperature,
braking assistance, ambient
temperature...) where the engine
is needed to assure control of a
system.
In this case, the "ECO"
warning
lamp fl ashes for a few seconds then
goes off.
This operation is perfectly normal.

DRIVING
Going into engine START mode
Special cases: START invoked
automatically
At any time, press the "ECO
OFF"
switch to deactivate the system.
This is confi rmed by the switch warn-
ing lamp coming on accompanied by
a message in the screen.
Deactivation
Reactivation
Press the "ECO OFF"
switch again.
The system is active again; this is
confi rmed by the switch warning
lamp going off and a message in the
screen. The "ECO"
warning lamp
goes off and the engine
starts with the electronic
gearbox
system
:
- gear lever in position A
or M
, re-
lease the brake pedal,
- or gear lever in position N
and the
brake pedal released, move the
gear lever to position A
or M
,
- or engage reverse gear.
START mode is invoked au-
tomatically when:
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fas-
tened,
- the speed of the vehicle exceeds
7 mph (11 km/h) with the elec-
tronic gearbox system,
- the electric parking brake is be-
ing applied,
- some special conditions (battery
charge, engine temperature,
braking assistance, ambient tem-
perature...) where the engine is
needed for control of a system.
In this case the "ECO"
warning lamp
fl ashes for a few seconds, then goes
off.
This operation is perfectly normal.
If the system has been deactivated
in STOP mode, the engine restarts
immediately.
The system is reactivated auto-
matically at every new start using
the key.

CHECKS
Brake pads
Brake wear depends on
the style of driving, par-
ticularly in the case of ve-
hicles used in town, over
short distances. It may be
necessary to have the condition of
the brakes checked, even between
vehicle services.
Unless there is a leak in the circuit, a
drop in the brake fl uid level indicates
that the brake pads are worn.
Manual gearbox
The gearbox does not re-
quire any maintenance (no
oil change).
6-speed electronic
gearbox system
The gearbox does not re-
quire any maintenance (no
oil change).
