- Press the(~] button to turn the steering wheel heating on
and off =>fig. 97. The message
Steering whee l heat ing on ! or
S teer ing whee l heat ing off! appears in the instrument
cluster display .
A nearly constant temperature is maintained when the steer ing
wheel heating is switched on.
T he last setting selected for the steering wheel heating (on or off) is
automatically saved when the vehicle is shut off and is assigned to the
remote key.•
Basic settings
General
The basic climate control settings can be adjusted in the
MMI.
- Select: Function button (CAR]> Control button AC.
The following functions can be selected:
• Auto recirculat .

• Synchronizat ion~ page 105
• Center vents~ page 105 •
Automatic recirculation mode
An air quality sensor detects increased concentrations of
pollutants in the outside air and automatically switches
to recirculation mode.
We recommend that you always keep automatic air recirculation ON
to prevent polluted outside air from entering the vehicle interior.
If the air qu alit y sen sor located in the air conditioning system detects
polluted outside air, the sensor decides whether the air pollution can
be reduced by the factory -installed pollutant filter or whethe r it is
necessary to switch to air recirculation. With heavy concentrations of
poll utants, the a ir condit ion ing system is switched automatically to
recirculation mode and the supply of outside air is blocked . As soon
as the concen tration of pollutants in the o utside air drops, fresh air is
supplied to the vehicle in terior again .
In the event that the windows fog up during automatic air recircula
tion, you must press the® button immed iately.
Under certain operating conditions, automatic a ir recirculation is
switched off automatically. With o utside temperatures below about
SO °F ( +10 °(), automatic air recirculation is limited to 30 seconds .
With outside temperatures below about 30 °F (-1 °C) and the cooling
system is switched off, the automatic air recirculation is limited to 15
seconds. •

Synchronization
One climate control setting for the passenger's and
driver's seats .
After Synchronization is set to on, all of the subsequent climate
control settings (except for seat heating*) for the driver are trans
ferred to the front passenger.
Synchronization is cance led when settings are adjusted on the front
passenger's side .•
Center vents
The temperature of the air leaving the center vents can be
changed to differ from the temperature setting .
-Select: Function button !CAR]> Control button AC >
Cente r ve nts .
T he air flow com ing from the center vents can be adjusted to be
colder or warmer than the selected set temperature.
In this way you have the opportunity to have the air flow from the
center vents a little warmer or cooler, depending on the time of year .
A little cooler in the summer and a litt le warmer in the winter. •

Tires and wheels Ill
----------------
For example: Tread wear 200, Traction AA, Temperature A.
All passenger car tires must conform to Federal Safety Requirements
in addition to these grades.
Tread wear
The tread wear grade is a comparative rating based on the wear rate
of the tire when tested under controlled conditions on a specified
government test course .
For example, a tire graded 150 would wear one and one half (1 1/2)
times as well on the government course as a tire graded 100.
The relative performance of tires depends upon the actual conditions
of their use, however, and may depart significantly from the norm
due to variations in driving habits, service practices and differences in
road characteristics and climate.
Traction
The traction grades, from highest to lowest, are AA, A, Band C. Those
grades represent the tire's ability to stop on wet pavement as
measured under controlled conditions on specified government test
surfaces of asphalt and concrete . A tire marked C may have poor trac
tion performance ~& .
Temperature
The temperature grades are A (the highest), B, and C, representing
the tire's resistance to the generation of heat and its ability to dissi
pate heat when tested under controlled conditions on a specified
indoor laboratory test wheel.
Sustained high temperature can cause the material of the tire to
degenerate and reduce tire life, and excessive temperature can lead
to sudden tire failure~&.
The grade C corresponds to a level of performance which all
passenger car tires must meet under the Federal Motor Vehicle
Safety Standard No. 109 . Grades Band A represent higher levels of
performance on the laboratory test wheel than the minimum
required by law .
Safety first
& WARNING
The traction grade assigned to this tire is based on straight-ahead
braking traction tests, and does not include acceleration,
cornering, hydroplaning or peak traction characteristics.
& WARNING
The temperature grade for this tire is established for a tire that is
properly inflated and not overloaded. Excessive speed, underinfla
tion, or excessive loading, either separately or in combination, can
cause heat buildup and possible tire failure. •
Winter tires
Winter tires can improve vehicle handling on snow and
ice . At temperatures below 45 °F (7 °C) we recommend
changing to winter tires.
In some heavy snow areas, local governments may require true
winter or "snow" tires, those with very deeply cut tread. These tires
should only be used in pairs and be installed on all four wheels. Make
sure you purchase snow tires that are the same size and construction
type as the other tires on your vehicle.
If your vehicle is equipped with all-wheel drive*, this will improve
traction during winter driving,
even with the standard tires. However,
we strongly recommend that you always equip all four wheels on your
vehicle with correctly fitted winter tires or all-season tires, when
winter road conditions are expected. This also improves the vehicle's
braking performance and reduces stopping distances.
Summer tires provide less grip on ice and snow .
Winter tires (snow tires) must always be fitted on all four wheels .
Ask your authorized Audi dealer or qualified workshop for permitted
winter tire sizes. Use only radial winter tires. ..,_
