Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP}

The warning/indicator light monitors the electronic
stabili zation program.
The warning/ind icator light ,., has the following functions:
• it flashes wh ile you are drivi ng, when the ESP or the ASR (Ant i-Slip
Regulation) is working .
• it ill um ina tes when yo u sw itc h on the ignition for app rox imately 2
seconds as a funct ion check .
• it illum inates w hen there is a malfunction in the ESP .
• it illum inates after the battery has been disconnected.
• it illum inates continuously when the ESP is switched off.
• it illumi nates if the re is a malfunct ion in t he ABS, s ince the ESP is
part of the ABS system.
If the ESP warning/ind icator light ill umina tes and stays on after you
have started the engine, this may mean that the co ntro l system has
tempo rari ly switched off the ESP. If this is case , you can reactivate
the ES P by sw itch ing t he ig nit ion off and the n on agai n. The
warning/indicator light should go out to show that the system is fu lly
fu nctional again .
The ESP warn ing/ind icator light will illuminate when the ignition is
switched on if th e ve hicle bat tery has been disconnected and the n
reconnected aga in . The light should go ou t after dr iv ing a short
dis tance if the steer ing whee l is turned s lig htly.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL}

The Malfunct io n Indicator Lamp ( MIL) is part of the On -Board D iag
nos tic (O BD II) system. The symbol ligh ts up w hen the ign ition is
turned on and w ill tu rn off after the eng ine has star ted and has sett
led at constant idle speed . This i nd icates that the MIL is work ing
properly .
T he warn ing light ill uminates when there is a malfunction in the
engine e lectronic system. Contact yo ur a uthorized Audi dealer and
have the malfu nction co rrec ted .

High beam !§"0
T he ~D warning/indicator light illuminates when the high beams are
on or whe n yo u us e the headl ight flasher. Fo r more informat io n abou t

Turn signals ¢¢
The indicator li ght flashes when you use either tur n
signal .
Whenever yo u use the left¢ or the right¢ tu rn signa l, the indicator
light flas hes. W hen you use t he emerge ncy f lashe r, both ind icator
lights flash.
If one of the turn sign al ligh t bul bs bur n ou t, the turn signal will flash
twice as fast as normal. •
Cruise control
CRUISE (USA models}/ 0.z (Canada models}
The CRU ISE warning/indicator light illuminates when the cruise control
is activa ted. •
If the engine control unit receives faulty vehicle roadspeed signals,

& WARNING
Always observe the posted speed limits and adjust your speed to
suit prevailing road, traffic and weather conditions. Never drive
your vehicl e faster than the m aximum speed rating of the tires

Trip computer
Introduction
The trip com puter gives you informati on on current a nd
average fuel mileage, a verage speed , fu el range and
driving time.

Single-trip memory (Trip computer 1)
Th e sing le- tri p memory sto res t he trip in forma tion from the t ime the
ignition is turned on until it is turned off. If the trip is continued
within 2 hours from the t ime t he ign ition was turned off, the new
data will be included in the ca lculat ion of the c urren t tr ip i nforma
t ion. If th e t rip is interrupted for
more than 2 hours the memo ry is
reset automa tically .
Total-trip memory (Trip compu ter 2 )
Unlike the single-t rip memory, the total-trip memory is not reset
au tom atically . This permi ts you to ev aluate your d riving data for the
en tire pe riod be twee n manual resets.
Fuel range
The est imated cru is ing range in mi les (km) appears in the display. The
display changes in inc rements of 6 mi les (1 0 km).
Average fuel mileage
The ave rage fuel e co nomy in MP G (l/100 km) s in ce you last clea red
the memory appears in this d isp lay.
Current fuel mileage
Th e instantaneous f uel cons umption in miles pe r ga llon ( l/100 km) is
show n in this d is pl ay. W hen the veh icle is st ationary, the most recent
fue l cons umption is displayed.
Average speed
The average speed in mph (km/h) since the last t ime the display was
reset appea rs in the display .
Elapsed time
T he lengt h of t ime that you have been drivi ng s ince you last reset the
memo ry appears in this dis pl ay . The maxim um time period that can
be recor ded is 999 ho urs and 59 minu tes . .,

Driver information display
Defective light bulb warning
The defective light bulb warning tells you when a vehicle
light bul b has become defective .
If a defective bu lb has been detected by the system or a light bulb
burns ou t, the symbo l w ith a message appea rs in the display to te ll
you which bulb is burnt out and where it is located. For example:
Rear left turn signal
After 5 seconds, the message d isappears . If you want to recall the
message into t he disp lay, press the CHECK button ::::,

There are three reasons w hy the defective bulb message would
appea r in the d ispl ay :
• The light bulb has burnt out::::,

• The wire connect io n to the light bulb is defective.

In case of a malfunct ion or component fai lure, the symbol
(USA models)/ (Ca nada models) can appea r. The following elec· trical components should be checked

Light/rain sensor defective
The indicator light indicates a defec t in the automatic
headlights/automatic wi per system.
If the symbo l ill umina tes, the ligh t se nso r has failed. Fo r safety
reasons, the low beams are turned on permanen tly with the sw itch in
AUTO . However, you can continue to t urn the lights on and off using
the light sw itch . In the case of a defec t in the ra in se nsor, the wi nd
shield wiper lever functions are still avai lab le . Have the light/rain
s ensor che cked as soon a s poss ible at an a uth oriz e d Au di dea le r.•

All the doors and the rear lid are locked by the central locking system
when you lock the vehicle.
The unlock ing and locking mode* can be changed in the driver infor
mation system~

Unlocking the vehicle
You can unlock the vehicle from outside either by using the remote
control
or by inserting and turning the key in the driver's door lock .
When you
unlock your vehicle:
• Th e anti-theft alarm system is deactivated briefly.
• The vehicle interior lights illuminate for approximately 30
seconds .
• All turn signa l lights will flash twice when the car is unlocked .
• After unlocking the vehicle, you have 30 seconds to open a door or
the rear lid. Afte r 30 seconds, the vehicle automatica lly locks and the
anti-theft alarm system activates again.
The rear lid can be locked or unlocked either by using the remote
control or by inserting and turning the key in the dr iver's door lock.
Unlocking the vehicle with the remote control~ will only
unlock the
rear lid, to
open it, the lid handle needs to be pressed.
Locking the vehicle
You can lock the vehicle from outside either by using the remote
control
or by inserting and turning the key in the drivers's door lock.
When you
lock the vehicle:
• All doors and the rear lid are locked.
• All turn signal lights will flash once when the car is locked.
• Th e anti-theft alarm system is activated. The horn of the anti
theft alarm system will sound and the anti-theft alarm system readi
ness light, located in the center of the instrument panel below the
windshield on the right side of the air vent, will start to blink.
• Th e vehicle interior lights turn off.

The automatic locking feature locks all the vehicle doors and the rear
lid when you drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h).
You can unlock the vehicle from the inside by:
• removing the key from the ignition switch (the vehicle wi ll auto
matically unlock itself) or
• pressing the unlock part of the power lock switch
ll::D or
• pulling the inside handle for that door (once - the front door is
unlocked and opened at the same time, twice to open the rear door).
If you wish, you can have an authorized Audi dealer convert your
power door lock system to automatic locking.
& WARNING
• When you lock your vehicle from outside, nobody· especially
children - should remain inside the vehicle. Remember, when you
lock the vehicle from the outside the windows cannot be opened
from the inside .
• When you leave the vehicle, always remove the ignition key
and take it with you. This will prevent passengers (children, for
example) from accidentally being locked in the vehicle should
they accidentally press the power locking switch on the center
console.
• Do not leave children inside the vehicle unsupervised. In an
emergency it would be impossible to open the doors from the
outside without the key.
[ i ] Tips
• In the event of a crash with airbag deployment all locked doors
will be automatically unlocked to give access to the vehicle occupants
from the outside .
• If the power locking system sho uld fail, you can still open the fuel
tank flap in an emergency~

PANIC Button
-Push the red button @to activate the panic function. The
horn sounds and the turn signals flash.
- Push the button @ again to deactivate the panic function.
The remote contro ls allows you to:
• lock or unlock the vehicle
• selective ly unlock the rear lid.
Th e turn signa ls will flash briefly whenever you lock or unlock the
vehicle. Also, the interior light will come on or go off whenever you
open or close the driver's door.
The transmitter and battery are located in the head of the remote
control. The receiver is located inside the vehicle. The maximum
effect ive range depends on several things. Remember, if the battery
is weak, the effective range decreases.
Th e remo te-control key contains a fold-out key that you can use to
manually lock or unlock the vehicle and to start the engine.
If you need to replace the remote control, or if you need to have it
repaired, you must see your authorized Audi dealer . Only then can you
use the key again.

• The remote contro l key is automatically deactivated when the
ignition is switched on .
• The operation of the remote control key can be tempora rily
disr upted by interference from transmitters in the vicinity of the

The emergency flasher makes other motorists aware that
you or your vehicle are in an emergency situation .

When the eme rgency flasher is o n, all four tu rn s ignal b link at the
same time . The turn signa l indicator lights¢¢ in the instrument
cluster , as well as the light in the emerg ency flasher switch~ blink
likewise.
T he emergency flasher will autom atically sw itch on if you are in an
acc ident where the airbag has deployed.

another vehicle behind you. •

operate the turn signals and the high beam as well as the
headlight flasher.

Auto -blink
- Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of resistance
to use the turn signals for as long as you need them, for
example when changing lanes.
- Briefly move the lever up or down just to the point of resis
tance and then release it to flash the turn signa ls
three
times in succession.
This feature allows to indicate lane
changes clearly and with minimum effort when driving on highways .
High beam ~D
-Push the lever forward @to sw itch on the high beam .
Pull the lever back towards you to switch off the high
beam .
Headlight flasher ~D
-Pull the lever toward the steering wheel © to use the
headlight flasher.
Notes on these features
• The turn signals only work with the ign ition switched on . The indi
cator lights ¢ or Q in the instrument cluster=>
page 11 also blink.
• After you have turned a corner, the turn signal switches off auto
matically.
• Th e
high beam works only when the headlights are on. The indi
cator light [D in the instrument cluster illuminates when the high
beams are on .
• The
headlight flasher works only as long as you hold the lever -
even if there are no lights switched on. The indicator light [Din the
instrument cluster illuminates when you use the headlight flasher.

Do not use the high beam or head light flasher if you know that these
could be blinding oncoming traffic. •

-Move the switch to the center position . The forward dome
light is turned on/off by the contact switches on any of the
doors.
