Clear vision Forward reading lights

- Press the left or rig ht sw itch ® to switch the left or right
fo rward reading lig ht on or off.
Glove compartment light
Open t he glove compartment - the light in t he g love
compartment automatically illum inates as long as the
si de marker lights or he adlights are on. When you close
the glove compartment, the light goes off.
With the interio r light switch at the door contact (center) position,
t he forward dome light illum ina tes whenever you unlock the vehicle
or open a door . The dome light goes out after approxima tely 30
se co nds after yo u have clo sed the door. L ikew ise, whe n yo u lock your
vehicle or switch on the ignition, the dome light goes out.
If yo u leave a door open, the dome light will go out after ten minutes
to conserve battery charge.
A dimmer automatically controls the brightness of the lights when
t hey are swi tched on. •

the vehicle when it is locked . Locked doors make it more d ifficult
for rescuers to acces s the passenger compa rtment in the e vent of

gear . The vehicle could start to roll away and cause an accident.

Starting on hills
H ill hold assist makes it easier to s tart on hill s.
T he system is activated whe n the brake peda l is depressed for a few
s econd s.
After releasing the b rake pedal, the bra ke power is held fo r a
brief
moment to prevent the vehicle from rolling back when star ting. At
t his time , you can eas ily begin to move your veh icle .
& WARNING
• If you did not beg in moving immediately after releasing the
brake pedal , under certain circumstances , the vehicle would begin
to roll backward. Depre ss the brake pedal immediately or engage
the hand brake.
• Should the engine st all , depress the brake pedal immed iately
or engage the hand brake.
• In order to prevent the veh icle from rolling back unintention ­
ally when starting in stop-and-go traffi c, keep the brake pedal
depressed for a few seconds before d riving off.

• Never tran sport object s larger than those fitting completely
into the luggage are a because the rear lid cannot be fully clos ed.
• If you absolutely must dri ve with the rear lid open , observe the
following note s to reduce the risk of po isoning:
- Clo se all windows,
- Close the power roof*,
- Open all air outlets in the instrument panel,
- Switch off the air recirculation ,
- Set the fresh air fan to the h ighest speed.
& WARNING
Always make sure that the doors , all windows, the power roof*
and the read lid are securely closed and lo cked to redu ce the ri sk
of inju ry when the vehicle is not being used.
• After closing the r ear lid, always make sure that it is properly
closed and locked.
• Never leave your vehicle unattended especially with the rear lid
left open. A child could crawl into the vehicle through the luggage
compartment and close the rear lid becoming trapped and unable
to get out. Being trapped in a vehicle can lead to serious personal
injury.
• Never let children play in or around the vehicle.
• Never let passengers ride in the luggage compartment . Vehicl e
occupants must alway s be properly restrained in one of the
vehicle 's seating positions.

• The tire pressu re mus t cor respond to the load - see the tire pres­
sure st icker on th e fuel filler doo r. •
The tire pressure must correspo nd to the load . The tire p ressure is
shown on t he tire press ure label. O n USA ve hicl es, t he tire press ure
label is located on the d river's s ide B-pillar. On Canada vehicles, the
tire press ure label is located either on the driver 's side B -pillar or
inside the fuel fille r flap . The t ire pressure labe l lists the recom­
mended co ld ti re inflation pressures for t he ve hicle at its maximum
c apacity weight and the tires that were on yo ur vehicle at the ti me it
was manufactured. For recommended tire pressures for normal load
c ondi tions, p le ase see cha pte r=>
page 249. •
Tie-downs
The lugg ag e co mportment is equipped with four tie­
downs to secure lugga ge and other items.
Use the t ie-downs to sec ure your ca rgo prope rly=> page 131,
"Loading the luggage compartment" .
In a co lli sion, t he laws of phys ics mean tha t even sma ller i tems th at
are loose in the vehicle will become heavy m issi les t hat can cause
ser ious injury. Items in the vehicle pos sess energy whi ch v ary wi th
vehicle speed and t he weight of the item. Vehicle speed is the most
significant factor .
For exampl e, in a fron tal col lis io n at a speed of 30 mp h (4 8 k m/h),
the forces actin g on a 10 -lb (4.S kg) o bject are about 20 times t he
normal weight o f the item. This means that the weig ht of the item
wou ld suddenly be abo ut 200 lbs. (90 kg) . You can imagine the inju­
r ies tha t a 200 lbs. (90 kg) i tem flying freely thro ugh t he p assenge r
compartment could cause in a collision like this.
& WARNING
Weak , damaged or improper straps used to secure items to t ie­
downs can fail during hard braking or in a collision and cause
ser ious personal injury.

- When using the vehicle safety belt to install a child safety
seat, you must first activate the convertible locking
feature on the safety belt to prevent the child safety seat
from moving~
page 177 or install the seat using the
LATCH attachments.
- Push the child safety seat down with your full weight to
get the safety belt really tight so that the seat cannot
move forward or sideways more than one inch
(2.5 cm)

- If the child safety seat is equipped with a tether strap,
attach it to the tether anchors=>

A toddler or child is usually too large for an infant restraint if it is
more than one year old and weighs more than 20 lbs . (9 kg) .
Toddlers and children who are older than one year up to about 4 years old and weigh more than 20 lbs (9 kg) up to 40 lbs. (18 kg) must
always be properly restrained in a child safety seat certified for their
size and weight~

The airbag on the passenger side makes the front seat a poten tially
dangerous place for a child to ride. The front seat is not the safest
place for a child in a forward-facing child safety seat . It is a very
dangerous place for an infant or a larger child in a rearward-facing
seat .
& WARNING
Not using a child safety seat, using the wrong child safety seat or
improperly installing a child restraint increases the risk of serious
personal injury and death in a collision or other emergency situa­
tion.
• Children on the front seat of any car, even with Advanced
Airbags, can be seriously injured or even killed when an airbag
inflates. A child in a rearward-facing child safety seat installed on
the front passenger seat will be seriously injured and can be killed
if the front airbag inflates - even with an Advanced Airbag
System.
• The inflating airbag will hit the child safety seat or infant
carrier with great force and will smash the child safety seat and
child against the backrest, center armrest, door or roof.
• Always install rear-facing child safety seats on the rear seat.
• If you must install a rearward facing child safety seat on the
front passenger seat because of exceptional circumstances and
the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not come on and stay on,
immediately install the rear-facing child safety seat in a rear
seating position and have the airbag system inspected by your
Audi dealer.
• Always read and heed all WARNINGS whenever using a child
restrained in a vehicle is being used~

If exceptional circumstances require the use of a forward-facing
child restraint on the front passenger's seat, the child's safety and
well-being require that the following special precautions be
taken:

& WARNING
Rearward-facing child restraints:
• A child in a rearward-facing child safety seat installed on the
front passenger seat will be seriously injured and can be killed if
the front airbag inflates -even with an Advanced Airbag System.
• The inflating airbag will hit the child safety seat or infant
carrier with great force and will smash the child safety seat and
child against the backrest, center armrest, door or roof.
• Always be especially careful if you must install a rearward
facing child safety seat on the front passenger seat in exceptional
circumstances.
• A tight tether strap on a rearward-facing child restraint
attached to the front passenger seat can put too much pressure on
the weight-mat in the seat and register a heavier weight in the
Advanced Airbag System. The heavier weight registered can make
the system work as though an adult were on the seat and deploy
the Advanced Airbag when it must be suppressed causing serious
or even fatal injury to the child.
• Make sure that the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light comes on
and stays on all the time whenever the ignition is switched on.
• If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not come on and
stay on, immediately install the rear-facing child safety seat in a
rear seating position and have the airbag system inspected by
your Audi dealer. •
Activating the convertible Locking retractor
Use the convertible locking retractor to secure a child
restraint.
Always heed the child safety seat manufacturer's instruc­
tions when installing a child restraint in your vehicle. To acti­
vate the convertible locking retractor:

Place the child restraint on a seat, preferably on the rear
seat.
- Slowly pull the belt
all the way out.
- Route it around or through the child restraint belt path

- Push the child safety seat down with your full weight to
get the safety belt really tight.
- Insert the belt tongue into the buckle for that seating
position.
- Guide the safety belt back into the retractor until the belt
lies flat and snug on the child safety seat.
- You should hear a "clicking" noise as the belt winds back
i nto the inertia reel. Test the convertible locking retractor
by pulling on the belt. You should no longer be able to pull
the belt out of the retractor. The convertible locking
retractor is now activated.
- Make sure that the red release button is facing away from
the child restraint so that it can be unbuckled quickly.
- Pull on the belt to make sure the safety belt is properly
tight and fastened so that the seat cannot
move forward
or sideways more than one inch (2.S cm).
& WARNING
Using the wrong child restraint or an improperly installed child
restraint can cause serious personal injury or death in a crash.
• Always make sure that the safety belt retractor is locked when
installing a child safety seat. An unlocked safety belt retractor
cannot hold the child safety seat in place during normal driving or
in a crash. ._

Chassis
Have the undercoating chec ked for damage from time to
time.
Th e lower body she ll of your Audi is a lso thoro ugh ly protected against
co rrosion.
Any damage to the unde rcoating caused by road hazards shou ld be
repa ire d pro mptly.
& WARNING
Too much undercoating in the wrong places can cause a fire .
• Do not apply additional undercoating or ru stproofing on or
near the exhaust manifold, exhaust pipes, catalytic converter or
heat shields. While driving , the sub stance us ed for undercoating
could overheat and cause a fire .
• Always read and heed all WARNINGS and other information

Safety first
Exhaust tail pipes
Road sa lt and other corrosive mater ials will damage the material in
t he exh aust tail pipes if they a re not cleaned reg ula rly. Do not clean
the ta il pipes with wheel cleaner, pai nt polis h, chrome po lish or other
abras ive clean ers . Cle an the t ail pipes wit h car ca re product s that are
suitable for sta inless steel.
You r authorized Audi dealer can provide cleaning products that have
been tested a nd app roved for your veh icle. •
Care of interior
Aluminum trim
Use only neutral-pH produc ts to remove s pots an d de pos its from
aluminum surfaces. Chrome care products and alka line cleaners w ill
attack aluminum surfaces and can damage them over time.

Fabrics and fabric coverings
Fabrics and fabr ic coverings (e.g. seats, door trim pane ls, etc.) shou ld
be cleaned at regula r in terva ls with a vacuu m cleaner. T his removes
surface di rt part icles which co uld become embedded in the fabr ic
t hrough use . S te am cleaner s sho uld n ot be use d, bec ause t he s te a m
tends to push the dirt deeper into the fab ric and lock it there.
Normal cleaning
Genera lly, we recommend using a soft sponge or a lint-free
microfiber cl oth to t he clean fab ric. Brushes should o nly be used for ..,.

& WARNING
Under normal operating conditions, never carry additional fuel
containers in your car. Gas canisters and other containers used to
transport fuel can be dangerous. Such containers, full or empty,
may leak and could cause a fire in a collision. If you must transport
fuel to use for your lawn mower, snow blower, etc., be very careful
and always observe local and state laws regarding the use, trans ­
portation and storage of such fuel containers. Make certain the
container meets industry standards (ANSI/ASTM F852 - 86).
0 Note
Never drive your vehicle until the fuel tank is completely dry. The
irregular supply of fuel can cause misfiring. Gasoline could enter into
the exhaust system and damage the catalytic converter. •
Refuelling
The fuel filler flap is unlocked from a button in the
driver's door.

When adding fuel, the ignition and any cellular phones in the
vehicle must be switched
off.
Taking the fuel cap off
- To open the fuel filler flap, pull the button=> fig. 156 .
- Unscrew fuel filler cap counter-clockwise and hang it on
the fuel filler flap => fig . 157.
- Check the label on the inside of the fuel filler flap to deter­
mine if the vehicle must be fueled with gasoline or diesel
fuel.
Refuelling procedure
Insert the fuel nozzle from the gasoline pump into the
fuel filler neck as far as it will go.
- Select a medium refuelling rate so that the nozzle
switches off automatically when the tank is full.
Putting the fuel cap back on
-After filling your tank, twist the fuel filler cap clockwise
until you hear a definite click.
- Close the fuel filler flap. .,
