Driver information display
Introduction
General notes
The driver information display inside the instrument
cluster provides you, the driver, with much useful infor­
mation .

Informat ion from the Driver Information System is shown in the
display in the center of the instrument cluster.
When you tu rn on the ignition and while you are driving, some func­
tions and vehicle components are scanned for their operating status.
Malfunctions or required service procedures are signalled audibly and
shown by red and yellow lighted symbols and reminders to the driver
in the display .
Th e driver is also shown information about radio and CD operat ion
and directions for the navigation system. You can find additional
information on these subjects in the MMI manual.

Current speed appears in the display. Speed is shown in 1 mph
measures (USA models) or 1 km/h measures (Canada models) .
You can switch the display from miles to kilometers and vice versa via
the MMI. •
Open door or trunk lid warning
The pictogram alerts you when doors or the rear lid have
been left open.

Driver information display
With the ignition switched on, the open door or rear lid warning illu­
minates when at least
one door or the hood or the trunk lid is not
closed . The symbol also shows you
which door(s) or lid is not closed.
In the illustration ~ fig. 12 it is the driver's door, the left rear door
and the rear lid. As soon as all the doors, the hood, the rear lid and
the fuel filler cap are properly closed, the door and rear lid warning
turns off and the Driver Information System functions selected are
displayed again. •
Defective Light bulb warning
The defective light bulb warning tells you when a vehicle
light bulb has become defective.

The defective light bulb warning monitors the function of the light
bulbs.
If this symbol illuminates, a brake light, a turn signal (front
or rear), a headlight, the backup light, a fog light or a rear fog light
has failed .
& WARNING
• Light bulbs are pressurized and could explode while they are
being changed causing serious personal injury. .._

Ignition Lock malfunction ~
A malfunction in the ignition lock must be repaired imme­diately .
If the .Pe symbol in the display blinks, there is a malfunction
in the electronic ignition lock. An additional driver message
can also be displayed by pressing the
[CHECK ] button:
Ignition lock defecti ve . Contact wor kshop!
- Do not turn the engine off.
- Drive immediately to an authorized Audi dealer to have
the malfunct ion correc ted.
If the re is a malfunction in the e lectronic ignition lock, the ignit ion
cannot be turned
off . Drive immediately to an authori zed Audi dealer
to have the cause of the mal function corrected.
On vehicles with Convenience key* , the eng ine should not be switched
off using the [STOP] button because the engine cannot be started
again afte r the ign ition is switched off .•
Yellow symbols
Ayellow symbol means WARNING.

When a yellow warning symbo l appears,
one warning tone sounds. A
dr iver message appears as well to expla in the malfunction in more
detail. The driver warning goes out after about 5 seconds, but it can
be brought up again a t any time by pressing the
I CHECK] button .
Check the displayed function as soon as possible . If
more than one
pr iori ty 2 malfunction is detected, all symbo ls will appear one after
the other for about 2 seconds.

Adaptive Light
When making a turn or driving around tight corners, the
relevant area of the rood is better illuminated .

An additional bulb in the headlight provides a cornering light@ in
addition to the low beam ©~ fig. 49. Adaptive Light is switched on
and off automatically depending on driving conditions.
When you activate the turn signal lever, the Adaptive Light for the
same side is switched on. Please note that the turn signal lever must
engage.
Adaptive Light is not switched on if you only move the turn signal
lever to the point of resistance to signal a lane change~
page 62,

When driving around bends, Adaptive Light is controlled according to steering wheel angle.
• It is switched on in tight corners.
• It is not switched on in long, open bends .
Adaptive Light (in curves)
When driving through curves, the low beams © are automatica lly
controlled depending on driving speed and the steering wheel angle.

Clear vision
The two main beams pivot at different angles so that there is no unil­
luminated area in front of the vehicle .
[ i] Tips
• The system works up to a speed of about 43 mph (70 km/h). If the
speed is higher, it is not activated .
• Adaptive Light (in curves) functions at a speed of about 6 mph
(10 km/h) and is deactivated at speeds below about 4 mph
(6 km/h). •

Perimeter lighting in the mirror housing
LEDs in the exterior mirror housing illuminate the ground
during entry.
This function ensures that when unlocking, the vehicle periphery is
ill uminated in the dark. LEDs in the exterior mirror housing are
switched on . The function cannot be turned off separately. •
Emergency flasher A
The emergency flasher makes other motorists aware that
you or your vehicle are in an emergency situation.

• When working on the batter y, be su re not to short-ci rcuit the
terminal s with tools or other metal object s. This would cau se the
battery to heat up very quickly , which could lead to damage or
e xplo sion and per sonal injury .
• When a battery is charged , it produces hydrogen gas which i s
explo sive and could cau se p ersonal injury .
• Alway s keep the battery well out of the reach of children .
• Before work is done on the electric al system, di sconnect the
negative ground cable.
• Before perfo rming any work on the electrical system , switch
off the engine and ignition a s well as any electrical equipment .
The negative cable on the battery mu st be disconnected. If you are
just g oing to replace a light bulb, then it is enough to switch off
the l ights.
• Before dis conne cting the battery, swit ch off the anti -theft
ala rm system! Otherwise you w ill set off the alarm .
• When d is connecting the battery, first di sconnect the negative
cable and then the positive cable .
• Before reconnecting the battery, make sure all electrical
consumers are switched off. Reconnect the positive cable first and
then the negative cabl e. Never interchange th e cables· this could
start a fire!
• Never charge a frozen or a thawed-out battery . It could
e xplode! If a battery has frozen , then it must be replaced. A
dis charged battery can freeze over at 32 °F (0 °C ).
• Make sure the vent ho se is always atta ched to the opening on
the side of the battery .
• Never use batteries which are damaged. There is the danger of
an e xplosion! Always replace a damaged battery.

• Battery posts , terminal s and r elated ac cessorie s cont ain lead
and lead compounds, chemi cals known to the State of Cal ifornia
to cause cancer and reproductive problem s. Wash hands after
handling.

• Do not disco nnect the vehicle battery when the ign ition is
switched on or whe n the engine is runni ng, otherwise, you wi ll
damage electronic compone nts in the electr ical system .
• If you r ve hicl e is go ing to s ta nd for a long pe riod of time wit ho ut
being driven, protect the battery from "freezi ng", ot herwise it w ill be
damaged and will then have to be replaced .•
Battery charging
Starting the engine requires a well charged battery.

Fuses that have blown will have metal strips that have
burned through .

The fuses are located at the front left and right of the cockpit
and behind the trim on the right side of the luggage compart ­
ment .
- Turn off the ignition and the affected electr ical
consumers.
- Check the following table to see which fuse belongs to the
consumer.
- Remove the appropriate cover.
- To remove the purple plastic clip if necessary

it at the small side and pull it out of the fuse panel.

Vehicle OP-eration
- Remove the clamp from the rear side of the fuse cover
=> fig. 233.
-Remove the fuse using the clamp and replace the blown
fuse with an identical new one.
& WARNING
Do not repair fuses and never replace a blown fuse with one that
has a higher amp rating. This can cause damage to the electrical
system and a fire.

If a new fuse burns out again after shortly have you have installed it,
have the electrical system checked by your authorized Aud i dea ler.

Replacing light bulbs
For your safety, we recommend that you have your autho­
rized Audi dealer replace burned out bulbs for you.
It is becoming increasingly more and more difficult to replace vehicle
light bulbs since in many cases, other parts of the car must first be
removed before you are able to get to the bulb . This applies especially
to the light bulbs in the front of your car which you can only reach
through the engine compartment .
Sheet metal and bulb holde rs can have sharp edges that can cause
serious cuts, and parts must be correctly taken apart and then prop­
erly put back together to help p revent breakage of parts and long
term damage from water that can enter housings that have not been
properly resealed .
For your safety, we recommend that you have your authorized Audi
dealer replace any bulbs for you , since your dealer has the proper
tools, the correct bulbs and the expertise.
Gas discharge lamps (Xenon lights)*:
Due to the high electrical voltage, have the bulbs replaced by a qual­
ified technician. Headlights with Xenon light can be identified by the
high voltage sticker .
& WARNING
Contact with high-voltage components of the electrical system
and improper replacement of gas discharge (Xenon) headlight
bulbs can cause serious personal injury and death.
• Xenon bulbs are pressurized and can explode when being
changed.
• Changing Xenon lamps requires the special training, instruc-
tions and equipment. .,_
