FUEL TANK
Fuel tank capacity: approximately
50 litres (petrol) or 48 litres (Diesel).
O p e n i n g t h e fi l l e r c a p m a y c r e a t e a
noise a caused by an inrush of air. This
vacuum is entirely normal, resulting
from the sealing of the fuel system.
T o fi l l t h e t a n k i n c o m p l e t e s a f e t y :
the engine must be switched off,
o p e n t h e f u e l fi l l e r fl a p ,
insert the key in the cap, then turn it
to the left,
W h e n y o u h a v e fi l l e d t h e t a n k :
put the cap back in place,
turn the key to the right, then remove
it from the cap,
c l o s e t h e fl a p .
remove the cap and hook it onto
the clip located on the inside of the
fl a p ,
fi l l t h e t a n k , but do not continue
after the 3rd cut-off of the pump ;
this could cause malfunctions.
Low fuel level
When the fuel tank minimum
level is reached this warning
lamp comes on on the instru-
m e n t p a n e l . W h e n i t fi r s t c o m e s
on there remains approximate-
ly 5 litres of fuel in the tank.
You must refuel as soon as possible to
avoid running out of fuel.
If you run out of fuel (Diesel), refer also
to the "Checks" section.
Filling
A l a b e l a f fi x e d t o t h e i n s i d e o f t h e fl a p
reminds you of the type of fuel to be
used depending on your engine.
Additions of fuel must be of at least
5 litres, in order to be taken into account
by the fuel gauge.

Diesel engines
The petrol engines are perfectly com-
patible with E10 type petrol biofuels
(containing 10 % ethanol), conforming
to European standards EN 228 and
EN 15376.
E85 type fuels (containing up to 85 %
ethanol) are reserved exclusively for ve-
hicles marketed for the use of this type
of fuel (BioFlex vehicles). The quality of
the ethanol must comply with European
standard EN 15293.
For Brazil only, special vehicles are
marketed to run on fuels containing up
to 100 % ethanol (E100 type). The Diesel engines are perfectly com-
patible with biofuels which conform to
current and future European standards
(Diesel fuel which complies with stan-
dard EN 590 mixed with a biofuel which
complies with standard EN 14214)
available at the pumps (containing up
to 7 % Fatty Acid Methyl Ester).
The B30 biofuel can be used in cer-
tain Diesel engines; however, this use
is subject to strict application of the
special servicing conditions. Consult a
PEUGEOT dealer.
The use of any other type of (bio)fuel
(vegetable or animal oils, pure or dilut-
ed, domestic fuel...) is strictly prohibited
(risk of damage to the engine and fuel
system). MISFUEL PREVENTION
M e c h a n i c a l d e v i c e w h i c h p r e v e n t s fi l l -
ing the tank of a Diesel vehicle with
petrol. It avoids the risk of engine dam-

Operation

BONNET
Protects the components of the engine and
provides access for checking levels.
Push the exterior safety catch B to
the left and raise the bonnet.
Unclip the stay C from its housing.
Fix the stay in one of the two notches
to hold the bonnet open.
Closing
Take the stay out of the support
notch.
Clip the stay in its housing.
Lower the bonnet and release it at
the end of its travel.
Pull on the bonnet to check that it is
secured correctly.
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL
(DIESEL)
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a n H D I e n -
gine, the fuel system must be primed if
you run out of fuel (refer to the corre-
sponding image).
I f t h e e n g i n e d o e s n o t s t a r t fi r s t t i m e ,
don't keep trying.
Operate the priming pump again, then
the starter motor.
Opening
Open the front left door.
Pull the interior release lever A , located
at the bottom of the door frame.
The location of the interior release
lever prevents opening of the
bonnet while the front left door is
closed.
When the engine is hot, handle the
exterior safety catch and bonnet
stay with care (risk of burns). 1.6 litre Turbo HDI 16V engine
F i l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e
litres of diesel.
Open the bonnet.
Operate the priming pump until it
h a r d e n s ( i t m a y b e h a r d a t t h e fi r s t
press).
Operate the starter until the engine
starts.
Close the bonnet.
