Brake are unavailable.
The self-diagnosis has not been completed yet.
The ATTENTION ASSIST is disabled.
The indicator lamp will go out after driving a short distance at a
vehicle speed of above 12 mph (20 km/h).
If the ABS indicator lamp does not go out:XContinue driving with added caution. Wheels may lock during
hard braking, reducing steering capability.XAdjust driving to be consistent with reduced braking
responsiveness.XRead and observe messages that may appear in the
multifunction display ( Y page 452).XHave the system checked at an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center as soon as possible.
Failure to follow these instructions increases the risk of an

When the ESC is switched off it will not stabilize the vehicle if the
system recognizes that the vehicle starts to skid or that a wheel

the prevailing road and weather conditions.XIf the ESC cannot be switched back on: Have the system

XInsert the new battery with the positive
terminal (+) facing up. Use a lint-free cloth.
XInsert the tabs of the battery compartment
cover into the housing and press the cover
closed.
XSlide mechanical key : back into the
SmartKey.
XCheck the operation of the SmartKey.
Replacing batteries (SmartKey with
KEYLESS-GO)
XInsert mechanical key : into opening.XPress mechanical key : in direction of
arrow.
Battery compartment ; is unlatched.
XPull battery compartment ; out of the
SmartKey housing.
XPull out batteries =.XInsert new batteries = under contact
springs ? with the positive terminal (+)
side facing up.
XReturn battery compartment ; into
SmartKey housing until it locks into place.
XSlide mechanical key : back into the
SmartKey.
XCheck the operation of the SmartKey as
well as the KEYLESS-GO function.
Remote control for Rear Seat
Entertainment System and/or
SPLITVIEW
The remote control contains two batteries of
size AAA, 1.5 V.
XRemove the cover of battery compartment
3 on the back of the remote control by
pressing down the snap-fit hook 2.
XTake out the empty batteries 5.XInsert the new batteries. Mind the polarity
marks on the batteries.
Battery on the left:
The positive terminal (+) must face
upwards.

RYour hands should be dry and free of oil and
grease.
RIf the newly installed bulb does not come
on, contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.
iMercedes-Benz recommends using
Longlife (LL) bulbs.
Replacing bulbs for front lamps
GWarning!
Do not remove the cover for the Bi-Xenon
headlamp. Because of high voltage in Xenon
lamps, it is dangerous to replace the bulb or
repair the lamp and its components. It is
recommended to have such work done by a
qualified technician.
Before you start to replace a bulb for a front
lamp, do the following:
XSwitch off the ignition.XTurn the exterior lamp switch to position
$.
XOpen the hood (Y page 404).
High-beam spot (vehicles with halogen
daytime running lamps)
XTurn housing cover : counterclockwise
and remove it.
XTurn bulb socket ; counterclockwise and
pull it out.
XPull the bulb out of bulb socket ;.XInsert the new bulb into bulb socket ;.XInsert bulb socket ;.
Driver’s side headlamp: Wire = is guided
to the upper right.
Passenger-side headlamp: Wire = is
guided to the lower left.
XTurn bulb socket ; clockwise.
Handle ? of bulb socket ; is in a
horizontal position.
XAlign housing cover : and turn it
clockwise.
High-beam spot (vehicles with LED
daytime running lamps)
or
infrared light (Night View Assist Plus)
i To replace bulbs of the driver’s side
headlamp, the washer fluid reservoir in the
engine compartment must be released.
Have such work performed at an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
XTurn housing cover : counterclockwise
and remove it.
XTurn bulb socket ; counterclockwise and
pull it out.
XPress both tabs to the left and right of bulb
socket ; and pull the bulb out of bulb
socket ;.
XInsert and press the new bulb into bulb
socket ; until it engages.

to provide best possible performance in
conjunction with the driving safety systems
on your vehicle such as the ABS or the ESC.

and tested and approved by Mercedes-
Benz can be identified by finding the

Mercedes-Benz may result in damage that
is not covered by the Mercedes-Benz
Limited Warranty.
! Using tires other than those approved by
Mercedes-Benz can have detrimental
effects, such as
R poor handling characteristics
R increased noise
R increased fuel consumption
Moreover, tires and rims not approved by
Mercedes-Benz may, under load, exhibit
dimensional variations and different tire
deformation characteristics that could
cause them to come into contact with the
vehicle body or axle parts. Damage to the
tires or the vehicle may be the result.

available at any authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center. The Tire and Loading Information
placard with the recommended tire
inflation pressures for cold tires is located
on the driver’s door B-pillar. Supplemental
tire inflation pressure information for
driving at high speeds or for vehicle loads
less than the maximum loaded vehicle
condition can be found on the tire inflation
pressure label. The tire inflation pressure
label is located on the inside of the fuel filler
flap. The tire inflation pressure should be
checked regularly and should only be
adjusted on cold tires. Follow tire
manufacturer’s maintenance
recommendation included with the vehicle.

Viscosity grades for engine oils
Using the chart below, select oil viscosity
according to the lowest air temperature
expected before the next oil change.
Engine oil additives
! Do not blend oil additives with engine oil.
They may damage the engine. Damage or
malfunctions resulting from blending oil
additives are not covered by the Mercedes-
Benz Limited Warranty.
Air conditioning refrigerant
R134a (HFC) refrigerant and special PAG
lubricating oil are used in the air conditioning
system.
! Never use R 12 (CFC) or mineral-based
lubricating oil. Otherwise damage to the
system will occur.
Brake fluid
GWarning!
During vehicle operation, the boiling point of
the brake fluid is continuously reduced
through the absorption of moisture from the
atmosphere.
